Anyone needs instruction with convertible top up and window not rolling down. You need to use a diagnostic OBD tablet (I use Autel MqxiCOM mk808) plugs into car OBD port, go through menu to command car to put convertible top on service mode, once in service mode, you can open the convertible using the open button on the car. If top acting weird after replaced the window regulator, then you have to go through the menu to initialise power window regulators. I hope this helps anyone who got a broken window regulator flooded inside the rear quarter panel. Thank you for this instruction video on how to replace the window regulator. 😊

Want to say thanks, I've just changed the same unit on my UK 2014 4seiries convertible, a little different in the door panel, there were no screws or weather strip to remove but with your vid and another it took 2 hours to sort it and change over the window. Big thanks again, saved me 100's!!

That gray brown box with BMW AG on it (the one you didnt know what it was) is the Antenna Aerial Amplifier, the Aerial is actually attached to the upper part of the interior trim and as well as feed from the rear window.
Damn great video. I’m a small business shop owner and the big bmw shops around me in Atlanta charge $1200.00 dollars for just one rear window. Insane! I can do both for $350 each
Excellent video. Tackled the regulator myself after watching this. Mines was a F33 420D Convertible 2017 and was very similar. The only issue was getting the glass holder cogs off. Used a flat head and a rubber mallet to unscrew.
Great instructions. Really appreciate the detail. Changed out my motor and regulator. I ordered my parts from local BMW dealer. The new motor bolt receivers are not threaded- spoke with bmw parts guy and he said, it’s normal for bmw to not thread some plastic parts. Thought this tidbit might help someone else.

How did you remove and reinstall the outside quarter panel strip? Window wiper At some point it shown to be removed and at other time it’s back That’s the only part I need to replace now

Great video brother! Unfortunately i have to attempt this because the last owners Indy messed the job up.. the drivers side window overlaps the rear. If i take it apart do you think its possible to move the rear window back about an inch? (im assuming the bottom screw wouldn't need touching) My drivers side overlaps the rears weather seal almost glass on glass
I'm not sure, it's been a while now since I did this repair. It's possible that the window regulators for the front and rear windows both have adjustments for moving the window forward and backward.
Hi All, I am from the UK and new owner of a 2008 E93 M3 When I purchased my E93 one of the rear windows would not lower, I removed the trim then the regulator complete with the motor. Rather than buy a complete new regulator / motor assembly I thought I would disassemble the motor, found it to be seized and full of water, after about an hour managed to clean it all up, re-lubricate and reassemble, worked great………….but! It now jams when it reaches the end of its travel going downwards, I then have to remove the motor body to release the tension, then it works again? Any advice please? I think it may be the hall sensor has packed up?

Hi I have a 428i and need to open hardtop roof manually. The roof will not retract, I think it has something to do with rear window not working. My rear window will not open or close, but I can hear motor. I have dismantled so much but to pull window out the roof is in the way. I just need advise on opening the hardtop manually, please.
This a cable type window regulator. The most common problem with them is the plastic wheels break or the cable binds. When they're broken, they make a clicking noise and the window may or may not move.
gents, F33 owner here. Unfortunately the top needs to be down (open convertible) to extract the window regulator assembly. How can i open the top? My regulator cable is broken: opening the top just makes the motor chew indefinitely...

Based in your experience fixing these Hard Top Convertible 328i Bmw cars, do you find common parts for these cars( like starter , alternator , water pump , Ac compressor , sparks plugs , CV Axes etc) to be accessible or reachable( not a pain in the ass to reach them ) when it comes to replacing them by yourself ? , the thing is that I want to buy one of these cars but I like fixing my cars, not somebody else to fix it unless I realize that person knows what he is doing and put real care in the job he is doing , thanks
I find these cars only slightly more challenging to work on than any other car. The real issue is when I have to scan the ECM or Body Control Module. It's difficult to find an aftermarket scan tool that works well with BMW.

Hi. If the window won't go down, that could be a bad switch, bad motor or broken regulator. If it makes noise but doesn't move, probably a bad regulator. If it makes no noise at all, probably a bad switch or motor.

Thanks a bunch really helped. Note the bottom bolt is a T40, not 30. Also the window nuts are 8mm not 10mm, at least they were for me. Great video pal

@@josephwiffen8669 Yes, I had to find a Mechanic who had an appropriate OBD2 scanner to place the roof in service mode to lower the roof.

There was water and all my motor was with corrosion and rust.After clean up it everything work fine.Everything else in good condition there.Thank you!
