Thats the same mill/drill i have :) I would have went electronic ignition . I would be interested why you didnt . I upgraded my mill with a 3 phase motor and VFD -I love it .
The main reason is the magneto fits is the airframe nicely and doesn't require a battery. They are also supposed to be relliable. The last airplane engine I had used CDI ignition and it just quit one day. Fortunately I was on the ground.
You can run a distributor but then you need a battery and a way to charge it. The mag is all self contained. The other reason on the Ultracruiser is packaging. The mag fits nicely between the rear of the motor and the firewall. A distributor would stick up through the cowling and ruin the sleek look.

@@keithmccormick1272 Redundant systems would be nice but it's hard to meet ultralight weight. I figure if it quits I'll just land it.🙃

Also the condenser from a different brand of magneto works externally on those. Cant recall which type, maybe that dual mag brand?
I've seen where Casler installs the external condenser. I'll research it more later, but for now it seems to be firing just fine.

I don't know. I haven't done any research on the 4 cyl conversions.
