- Once again, I’m alive, been a while since I did this kinda video. With the new Fire Emblem game out, I wanted to do so once more, since these are the main videos people know me for nowadays.
For this series I skipped one of the Alear forms to avoid showing the same, or similar convo twice. Due to the fact the Bond Supports seem to be the same for both Ikes, I’m not going to film fem Ike.
The Emblems talk to everyone, with very brief conversations for the most part. There are some gems in the rough, but overall these are fairly meh talks.

Ike is very blunt and doesn't take any shit, but he's a kind and sometimes fairly insightful person. Man of few words but they mean a lot when he uses them.
Ike's a simple man. He likes helping people, eating meat, and getting stronger. Nothing much else goes on in his brain.

Greg Chun does a lot better in terms of voice direction in this game compared his previous roles as Ike where he was barely audible

It might be a me thing, but I'm pretty split on it. On one hand, I like that he is trying something different for Ikes voice, but on the other hand. He comes off as too nasilly for me sometimes. I don't remember exactly if he voiced Ike in Ultimate, but I feel that's the voice he should have went with. A more stern voice like radiant dawn, but I believe that was a different voice actor. I...actually don't remember anymore it's been too long haha.

I love Ike’s supports with Rosado, they just feel so nice and casual. Like Rosado says, Ike doesn’t judge people based on preconceived notions, and just sees who they are as individuals.

You can really tell how much IS has leaned into the pretty boy look when you place these newer characters next to Ike and his brickhouse build.
I kinda miss having more designs like Ike. Diamant, Mauvier, and Vander kind of fit as more tough-looking guys but yeah

People forget the difference between a man of few words and a man of few thoughts. Ike doesn't talk much but knows what he's saying when he says it.

Well, considering Priam is Ike's descendant, it's logical to assume at some point Ike settled down and met a female spouse and produced heirs. That doesn't sound like he's gay.
Ike has long been my favorite FE character, so it's great to see how well they captured his voice here. A lot of his lines feel like they could be straight from PoR or RD.
Chun did a much em better job this time, and the game did a great job on Ike’s character arc and personality. He’s not a noble, but a mercenary who had to grow up faster than most others due to the deaths of his mother as a child, and later his father before he was ready to fill in his shoes. That was tough to live through, with only what they had taught him left to help overcome the challenges of living up to his father’s swordsmanship and successfully avenging his death.
In fairness his only other appearances as Ike have been Heroes and Smash Ultimate. Not much you can do when you only get one sentence of dialogue.

I like how they don't go all the way in on the backstories when the emblems mention their allies from their original titles. I'm sure it's IS trying to get people to buy the old games or some such, but letting people fill in the blanks with their own stories of those characters, I like personally.

I’ll count Hector, Soren, Camilla, and Veronica too. But others, especially Marth, Leif, Chrom, and Micaiah could’ve been better. Majority of those bond conversations are just the units talking about themselves which is fine but save them for the support conversations, let the Emblems talk more about their lives too.

Don't get me wrong, I am fully aware of his character overall, and it's the very reason he is one of the 12 in this game, but it's also precisely his character is why I believe in a certain video of good to evil between the smash fighters I believe the ranking he got was just right. People complain he should be much higher in that rank, but looking at these bond supports here, I have to respectfully disagree.

@@DatKooby I’m going to be honest I doubt it most (if not all) romantic subtext (regardless of who he is supporting) are complete fabrications of the English localization team (Princess Elincia is by far the WORST offender of this where it sets it up that they have feelings for each other in their supports but in the Japanese version it’s extremly platonic)
Mainly in the Japanese version Ike falls more into the trope of the wandering Ronin whose only focus is on improving his swordsmanship. The thing people think of for him being gay is that his paired endings are with Soren and Ranulf where he goes on his journey (which he goes on regardless of what ending he gets) and either of them joins him……and this causes what I refer to the awakening effect. I would say a good chunk of the fans playing fire emblem now either got in with awakening or 3 houses where a paired ending ment romance….. that wasn’t necessarily the case prior to awakening
I think there is a lot of people trying to put what they believe modern games should have and cram it into an old game
Going to be honest if you were to time travel back to 03 04 when path of radiance was being developed and asked the writers Ike’s orientation, they probably would scratch their heads and say something to the effect of “we haven’t really gave it that much thought”
That is to assume that 03 04 Japanese sensibilities knee jerk reaction would not have been “why would we ever make our protagonist gay?!” Got to remember even in the US there was only a single state that legalized gay marriage, people weren’t as accepting of it. Hell in Japan no part of the government on any level recognizes same sex marriage to this day

There are multiple developer interviews stating that Ike has no interest in women and there’s the pre-final boss convo in Radiant Dawn between Ike and Soren. It may never have been said outright but there’s plenty of evidence and implications.

Mostly because if you study other languages you will realize how narrow the English language is with the concept of love……yes technically in the Japanese vernacular yes there is a form of love that Ike does express to Soren…..and it is elevated over things like family but it’s not really a lover postion. There is no real equivalent in the English language. However it is not a romantic/sexual love
