  • Welcome To For The Love Of Caravans....
    Welcome back... In today's video I take a look at the Kampa Limpet Set and the Kampa Double Wheel Arch Cover. I was quite impressed with the limpets which stood up to a stern test in the storms we had while away in Cornwall. There is a top tip in this video if your thinking of buying this wheel arch cover. Here are the links to all products seen in this video.

    Hello, I wish I'd seen your video a couple of weeks ago as I have done the same as you and bought a twin wheel draft excluder wich also covers our lower fridge vent. 😎

    Hi Ian & Clare,
    I do like those Kampa limpet sets for your awning. I will be buying some of those. Thanks for sharing pal. 👍👍

      No problem 👍 they work for us. Some hate them but not had a problem.

    Hi Ian. These limpets are great as long as you don't over tighten them. I used them on a previous awning and they worked well. Thanks Phil👍🙂

      Hey Phil... yeah I agree. Some like these things but some don't. Not had an issue as yet.

    Thanks for that great tip. Well worth knowing as we have a caravan simliar to yours and we were thinking of buying a draft skirt too xx

    Good workaround for the vent problem mate. We use a "Draghtstoppa" wheel cover that you can cut down with a pair of scissors height wise, but they don't come with pockets for storage etc. Cheers for the tips and update 👍

      Thanks guys.... had a "middle age" moment when I bought that I guess. The vent did not enter my head until I tried to fit the thing.

    Careful when it gets really hot, you may find the fridge won't perform as it should with the draught excluder over that vent especially if your fidge is an absorbtion fridge not compressor as the cooling uses a chimney system with the 2 vents to provide a suck through for the cooling to work properly. Love the videos, keep them coming

    • @ForTheLoveOfCaravans
      @ForTheLoveOfCaravans  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know Rusty... as I demonstrate in the video it covers the vent. I do say in the video I was going to cut around the vent and move the limpets for this reason. Thanks for watching.... Ian.

    I did kind that useful. I would have made the same mistake as you. I do like that limpet system. Your awning was nice and draft free, I must admit..

      Cheers Graham... some like them some don't. They have worked for us so far. Time will tell I guess.

    Ian Limpets are great used them for several seasons. I wouldn’t worry about your “mistake” after the alteration it’ll look spot on. Tbh don’t think you could do anything else. 👍

      It was one of those moments you step back and say "DOH". Just did not think about the vent lol.

    • @CaravanVlogger
      @CaravanVlogger 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our vents are even worse they are right on top of the wheel arch so they put a mini rail for you to feed a cover in. Tried mine but couldn’t get it to fit 🤔

    Yea they are good. I notice you don't have a roof liner in your awning. I do and leave it attached all the time even when I take the awning down, they make a real difference in keeping down condensation from the roof panel. Also look good and hide the air beams nicely. Consider buying one but make sure you get the correct one as they are made bespoke to the awning size/shape. Nick T.

      Hi... we have the roof lining but did not use it for this weekend as we were a only there for a couple of days. The lining works great, we used it in Cornwall.

    Ian where did you get the step, I like the idea of the foot pads on the steps

    • @ForTheLoveOfCaravans
      @ForTheLoveOfCaravans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I could take the credit for the idea. I found the idea on a caravan Facebook page. Anyway I did a top tip video were I show what to do. The steps I have now are the second ones I have modified. Here is the video... th-cam.com/video/zbQlVTYYtkE/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Ian if I was u I wouldn't cut that draft pocket skirt instead go on line and type in caravan drafts wheel arch stopper there's a company that do a fold away board that goes over the wheel arch .then u can put that pocket holder some where else ask Martin from caravan nut he's got one they good and the limpet r really good .kev

    • @ForTheLoveOfCaravans
      @ForTheLoveOfCaravans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Kev I have seen them. It's fine I have a spare limpet so a little mod and its sorted.

    Hello Ian the limpet system was the only thing I was disappointed with , for sure if the pitch is level and weather good not a issue , but bad in weather they come unstuck and over tightening can.brake the threat ? Think I’ve found some replacements but not sure if will work they are stronger , my fridge vent is the opposite side so don’t have that issue
    Thanks Gavin

    Do them limpets leave mark on the caravan

    • @ForTheLoveOfCaravans
      @ForTheLoveOfCaravans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The have not left marks as yet. I guess you just keep them clean and all should be ok.

    Could your awning be on the wrong side 😀

    Limpets are notorious for breaking. Apparently ikea do something that is much cheaper & works better.
    NB limpets will not stick over a decal on side of van.
    If you have a Bailey van then just get a shaped wheel arch cover. It slides in round the wheel arch under the rubbery trim. Even better fit!

    • @thaiquinn
      @thaiquinn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Linda Kirk yes I agree, I think the limpets are too prone to breaking and overhyped. I found “suction cups with 10mm screw” on Amazon and they are much better and cheaper.

    • @ForTheLoveOfCaravans
      @ForTheLoveOfCaravans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not had a problem with them. I was careful not to over tighten then so no problems.

  • @toottoot3492
    @toottoot3492 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good vlog... I wouldn’t risk them limpets.. there’s been too many cases of damaged vans with them. My mate ruined his paint using them. Apparently it pulls the metal away from the board.. google it.. loads of complaints about them

    • @colinrimmer789
      @colinrimmer789 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I said earlier I’ve used Limpets for several seasons no problem not even a mark on the paint on my 11 yrs old Swift. The problems you describe lies with the Caravan manufacturer, shoddy workmanship, a little hand applied sucker shouldn’t pull the metal away from the wall substrate.

    • @ForTheLoveOfCaravans
      @ForTheLoveOfCaravans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. I have not had any reason to worry about them. As Colin said... if they did I would be worried about the workmanship. I guess time will tell.
