Spot on! i tried this with my big screen beyond, and while the hand tracking works beautifully, its still in its early stages, but i really cant wait til this becomes much more main stream
I'm having difficulties with pinching to select, almost as if there is a mix of signals. I've had almost perfect results, just the selecting, it took me 10 minutes to scroll down in the menu, thanks for making pointing this tech out, had it lying around from dk2 days
This one was with the Leap Motion. With the Quest I felt like I didn't have to have my hands in as close of a sweet spot for them to track. Even though the Leap Motion technically has a larger FOV I still felt like it was more sensitive about where my hands were (a rectangle in front of me) vs the Quest.
Surprised me how bad it looked here considering leap motion is market leader for hand tracking, must be something with VRC that butcher it so much because I have seen it work better but that was at a time when mods where still a thing.
@@zerocool6452 I don't think there is much competition though, tbh. (When it comes to hand tracking devices vs companies that do built in hand tracking). I could be wrong tho
@@AtomBombBody Definilty not. As far as I know when it comes to built in hand tracking Pico and Meta are the only ones and Leap Motion is the only standalone I know off by name. The area is pretty niche in general but I have seen Leap Motion in action before not only with this but other stuff too which is why I got a bit surprised. But stuff gets better all time times so I'm hopeful, hand tracking is awesome to use when it works (sad Pico noices).
Okay but I want to know how to DISABLE it. This new update screwed over me big time, my launch pad is no longer attached to my hand and is just floating in front of me, the finger tracking is so sensitive and it won't let me go back to using my default oculas quest 2 controller binding and layout instead INSISTING that I use the oculas touch scheme. The new skeletal hands get in the way of everything, and no one can hear me anymore. I didn't even want to be part of this beta BS they just opted me in it anyways. How do I disable it?
Would it be possible to adjust the angle of the leap motion or set it up in such a way that it tracks lower on the body rather than in front? I'm thinking about using it to play instruments while in VR, for example.
@@AtomBombBody No yeah, I'd want it to track my hands still, just like, lower to around my hips. For example if I had a guitar, you think it's still be able to track my fingers and hand position?
@@AtomBombBody Sweet. I might have to grab one and experiment. I'm already thinking about something gross involving those phone holders that go around your neck LOL
I'm using the quest 3 through PCVR and it seems to be working but the built-in quest pinch gestures are getting in the way of the pintch gestures for VRC. Is there a work around for this?
You can re-map some of the gestures in the hand tracking options in VRC. I found that the VRC menu opens faster than the circle fills for the quest options, just gotta get timing right. You can always use a controller temporarily to bring up the VRC settings to re-map them if needed.
im on quest 3 how can i get rid of the annoying first timer hand tracking skeleton stuff because im no first timer but its stuck on that would appreciate it man
What does "drop" gesture command do with pinky finger and thumb connecting on a right hand? How to remap those commands so it stop conflicting with quest gesture commands like open hamburger menu with index and thumb fingers on left hand?
If you are using a Leap Motion device it should work with link cable. But otherwise for built in Meta hand tracking, Virtual Desktop does some really nice/specialized things when it comes to sending hand and body tracking data over to SteamVR, and I highly recommend it.
Been trying to do this but every time I try opening the steamvr.vrsettings file with notepad, it doesn't show everything and only gives me a mostly blank page with just 263 characters 😞
Well...n ow i know why my hand tracking was so stiff, and thank god it's for virtual desktop. All I really needed to do is enable 1 thing in VD's settings and now i can do whatever i want.
I bought a Leap Motion 2 to specifically do this with my Bigscreen but SteamVR keeps prioritising the Leap Motion 2 as the primary controllers instead of my Index controllers. How do I fix this?
Have you tried not turning the controllers on? I usually launch SteamVR plus VRChat from the desktop so I'm already in game by the time the headset goes on
@@AtomBombBody It doesn't make any difference whether the physical Index controllers are switched on or not. SteamVR is always prioritising Leap over them. It makes any games designed with the analog sticks for navigation almost unplayable. I need to know how to always make the physical index controllers the priority over Leap. So that games that rely on its functionality don't have their playability ruined by Leap's crappy controls.
@@AtomBombBody The 'toggle left' and 'toggle right' controllers on the leap app that appears with SteamVR does make life a whole lot easier. But there's a bug were if the Leap app is closed, it cannot be re-opened without restarting SteamVR. I hope this bug gets fixed soon. Have you noticed this issue as well?
I've decided to ditch the whole idea and I'm sending the Leap Motion 2 back to Amazon. I'll invest in a set of UDCAP gloves instead. It seems like an inherently way better solution than Leap anyway.

Do you know if it's possible to rebind handtracking controls with VD? If I use steam link it gives me the option to rebind handtracking commands, allowing me to set up custom bindings (ie. point to move). But when I use virtual desktop, I don't get the 'handtracking controller' option under the binding menu, so I'm stuck using the VRchat default handtracking controls...
@@AtomBombBody Thank you!! It's so odd because using steam link is great EXCEPT when my hands move out of the Q3 tracking range, my avatar's arms kinda go all jank. It means you can't rest your arms at your sides without your avatar looking off. Interestingly, you don't get the same issue with VD; wherever your arms were last left when tracking was lost, they (mostly) freeze in place. So really just need handtracking rebind in VD and it'll be good enough for now (I guess the dream step up would be light slimeVR-style tracked gloves with a small analogue stick for movement)

Would love to see a comparison of quest versus leap motion on VRChat. Not sure which one you're using while in VRChat in the vod
