I just enrolled in the brown scapular Confraternity of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, last week. Love it. Tried to find a priest months ago to do this. So glad I did. Hard to find a priest who can/ willing to do that.

This was not planned but I know just fell into place by the Lords design. It's so obvious how God has kept the Queen of Heaven in charge of leading us to his son even more now in these times than ever before.

I also came to have a brown scapular, but that one I’m called to give to my mother. I did wrong many years ago. I threw hers away in my zeal to get rid of “idols” in my home. So I think I was given this one to give it back to her. I got it blessed and it’s a 3rd class relic at this point. I’m just holding it for her. The one I am truly called to wear is the red scapular. Please do discern carefully. Don’t just wear one bc it’s easy or popular to find. Find out which one you need to don.

In my case I arranged to meet up with a priest who was familiar with the 5 fold, he read his part, gave me my part to say and in a few minutes we were finished. Many years ago I requested some scapulars from my parish. They were brown and I gave them away to my co-workers. I know what they are and what they mean but why I did this I don’t really know. There were about 8 of them given to me. I do know it was in the spirit. I hope it was a blessing to them. Some Of my co- workers were Catholic some not. Decades ago, when someone made the first Communion, the priest would also enroll the child in the brown scapular. Too bad they stopped doing it these days. Probably the Vatican 2 stopped it.
I still have my brown scapular and I have been wearing it a lot lately due to the current climate in the world. It was issued to me on my first holy communion back in the late 70's early 80's.
My grandson was enrolled when he made his First Holy Communion in 2016. And, with that being said we had a pastor more in the traditional side. Unfortunately, he passed away and our new priest is liberal.

Myself personally I encountered the most arrogant and incredibly unpleasant priest in a more traditional Perish were the Latin mass was offered. I had items that I needed blessed and when I asked him you know what he said " UGH ! I hope this will not take long!!!" he actually was welp bitching at me and getting nasty bc I had things i needed blessed. the items were a Wooden Virgin and child alter statue and a facsimile edition of the Hastings book of hours! no smile no comment saying how pritty the items were or any interest or smile he was just miserable . Afterwords I smiled despite being insulted and put off by his manner and half tempted to tll him off But I smiled and attempted to try my hardest to offer him a pleasant demeanor he was not giving me. I thanked him and apologized to god for thinking ill of one of his priests but implored him to understand my side of it . Needless to say I stopped going to that Perish despite Loving the Extraordinary form of the mass far more than the ordinary form but I could not stand the almost joyless rigid demeanor of the adults and Priests....it felt like a Cult almost.

I feel a little frustrated because when I spoke to a few priests about enrollment in the brown scapular they just said " Oh you don't need to be enrolled..just wear it." I'm not sure what to do now.
I ran into the same thing, having our priest say just to say a few hail Mary's and wear it. But that is not the case, you have to be enrolled. I found another priest who knew about the enrollment. I suggest you find another priest.
you can do ither. it is important to be enrolled but the important thing is that you were it faithfully and attempt to embody the virtues that it stands for the brown scapular for example should cause you weather you are enrolled or not a grater devotion to our lady and aside from bathing or to wash it or if it accidentally falls or is pulled off you like when you are taking off your shirt you should never take it off deliberately. Before I was enrolled I prayed a special prayer every morning consecrating myself to the virgin mary and the scapular. but on days when i was not quite with it a simple hail mary said with love would also do.
This is something that is making me suffer a lot. My earthly mother died recently, on the feast of St. John the Baptist. She made me buy her a scapular and asked me to have it blessed by a priest. As I brought her to England 8 years ago, she did not know the language and could not ask for it herself. Unfortunately I kept putting it off, even though we went to Mass every Sunday and I could have asked for it. Two months ago she was bedridden. I called a priest to give her the last rites and asked him, with great concern, to perform the rite of the Holy Scapular. But he only wanted to do a normal blessing (not the specific Scapular blessing) and then I held the Scapular around my mother's neck for him to say the imposition formula, but he didn't want to and said that it was already imposed. I heard in a video that in case of danger of death a lay person could do the imposition by reading the formula, so in the hospital, greatly concerned for my mother (who could no longer speak, pray or move) I did the imposition. I prayed a lot to Our Heavenly Mother to accept my poor mother's Scapular as valid. It was not her fault that the ritual was not done properly.
It is my understanding that the purple scapular apparition has not been approved by the Church. Mary's statements were so negative ... Very untypical of her.

Any Catholic priest can enroll you and others in any of the confraturnities of a particular scapular that the Holy Spirit is calling you to wear. Each scapular that is connected with a confraturnity has special prayers that the priest reads before and while placing the scapular around your neck. God bless.
from what I was told by my priest once you are enrolled you do not need to be enrolled again unless you become a lapsed catholic perhaps. new scapulars need to be blessed if they were not blessed already by a priest. sometimes the monasteries were they are made the monks or nuns bless/have them blessed by the priest before selling them off to shops and such. but no Just have the new ones blessed if they have not been allready.

In my personal opinion I would find another priest who whill do the prayers and place the scapular on you. There is no need for holy water. You can also google the confraturnity of the Carmelites and they will guide you as well. God bless

Now now We can not blame everything on the Second Vatican Council. but it is unfortunate yes. Luckly the practice seems to be coming back.

I never heard of most of these Scapulars . I think we were enrolled in the brown one as children in school.

Any priest can enroll you. Any pre-Vatican II priest will know how as younger priests often don't know about it.
The Purple Scapular has not been recognized by the Church.

An image of God is not an idol, it is, an image of our most beloved Father, just like one might have an image of their beloved family on earth.

Not to obey what God asks of us is to take enormous risks because for Him disobedience to His commandments is comparable to not knowing Him. (1 John 2: 4) He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in Him.
