I'm not gay but I was bullied at school so I have always tended to feel more comfortable around gay people or others who are seen as outsiders. I think that's why I like The B-52s so much, their motto has always been 'it's ok to be different'. Keith has such a peaceful, kind way about him. Maybe that's why he doesn't look a day over 30!
This band has helped many "unique" individuals come out of the closet or learn to love themselves as they are and not as they wanted to be. To listen to them and to relate to them provides one with an insight that their music is truly necessary and sublime. I can only imagine that their message is about sharing the joy, loving one another and peace. peace with yourself and peace throughout The Universe. We are. Therefore, we can be! peace.
One day my Mom was just looking through my records out of curiosity. I was fine with that... my parents introduced us kids to a lot of music since I was wee, especially during their hippy days. But, I remember her pulling out a couple of my B-52s albums, and as I watched her noticeably looking a little harder at them, I'd forgotten I'd painted kissing lips on Keith's cheeks on the album covers. She thought my little Sister did it. The look on her face when I told her she hadn't. I've had this stupid crush on Keith since I was a teen. I would've jumped at the chance to join them on stage at any of their concerts I went to... but then, I would've had the most difficult time trying 'not to' lay one right on him in person. Now we're all old, LOL. Keith, if you ever read this... well, nevermind. Thanks for making my life a little more fun, even if it wasn't in person. sigh... *muah
The B52s are such a fun, positive band. I don't think of them as a gay band, I think of them as a highly unique, awesomely talented band. One of my favorites. I don't like to define people by their sexual orientation; gay or straight; I never understood why it would matter to someone else. I just like good people.
Rose Breen Absolutely 100% agree. Loved this band since the 70's. I couldn't care less if members are gay or straight. It does not effect my enjoyment of their fantastic music, nor should it.
I love Keith. I love gay guys. I am a straight chick. These guys are cute and they sit and cry with me. I am clinically depressed. The B52s were a happy cool band. I think Cindy was the only straight one
