The only sci-fi movie that makes you feel the infinite cold and emptiness of outer space as much as the scalding warmth and tremendou weight of the sun. Nothing less than a major achievement.
I refer to this musical piece as "victory within doom." There's a repeated stepping upward and downward in it. Destruction by the strongest force in the entire solar system that is ultimately the creator and sustainer of life as well. I felt the meaning of SHIVA (from Hinduism) in this film, even though the sun is considered a separate god on its own and that Shiva is sometimes referred to as the space itself, the nothing out of which something comes into being and to which everything returns.
At the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. Then the moment will pass. Man will be gone. There will be nothing to show that we were ever here... but stardust.
Definitely one of the very best science fiction movies ever made, little sketchy on the science side, but when teamed with a great cast, over the top emotions of pending death, heroism and great music, it's one of the finest. Recommend everyone watch it.
This really does evoke the perpetually thinning of the fine thread that is human existence, and the blind, omnipotent force of nature that will sweep across the Universe one day, wiping out all in its path. The Sun has nourished us, warmed us, guided us, but soon it will take us. I only hope humanity lives on in spirit!
Makes me think Dylan Thomas: "Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." And High Flight: "Put out my hand and touched the face of God"
It's late, I've been drinking, here I am with tears in my eyes and looking for a bit of warmth, a touch of something, something sad that cannot take away, the pain I seem to find again and again, here I am, looking, for a shine, a ray, a bit of hope to chase the moon's sadness, an erase of the day, into a beauty I'll never reach, as you here also seek, I whisper the only dream I ever have … is it the surface of the sun? Everytime I shut my eyes … it's always the same.
Almost don't even want to sully this with a reply. But this was an 11 line summary of the human condition and simultaneously related to the plot of the film. Fantastic
I closed my eyes as I listened to this song by myself in dead silence and all I could think of was that 1 scene' simply amazing movie 10/10 john murphy has made an evolution in Music! Well done!
Man, what a coincidence. This video came out just when I was getting into Sunshine. I saw it in 2008 and hated it. Saw it again in 2011 and loved it. I remains one of my favorite movies.
@@Blockistium How dreary it was, the weird editing in parts, the famous Act 3 twist, the weird esoteric ending. Watched it again and suddenly appreciated it. The payoffs, the internal logic of the story, how realistic the characters were played, the soundtrack. It became fascinating and beautiful and everything I didn't like about it evaporated.
Origin, time, destiny, legacy, life, death, sacrifice, meaning, love, hate, wonder. This song means everything, it makes you think what are we waiting for as Humanity? Emotions run wild every time i press play. ;)
Just finished watching this movie, It was absolutely brilliant, one of the best sci-fi movies I have ever seen. This song, is so incredibly beautiful, It makes me want to weep, it inspires true emotion. It's also played at the end of "The Grey" saddening that people dont know what movie it originated from, because they are really missing out.
from the poem "High Flight" Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, - Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
If not for the character of Pinbacker (totally uncalled for, to my opinion), who wasn't needed to end this movie the way is was, Sunshine could have been the new Dune, or Blade Runner. That's why I lend it to everyone that hasn't seen it already, or to those who want to see it again. The first two thirds and the last five minutes are simply perfect. I can't say how much I love the dialogues, the cast, the soundtrack, the photography.
To everyone who loved Sunshine, I recommend Moon (2009) with Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey. Also a beautifull and really intelligent, maybe even philosophic science fiction movie. Both movies are in my top five scifi movie ranking.
I watched this again last night. Still works. I bought an orchestral version of Adagio in D, and while impressive, it doesn't quite work without the visuals and the emotional engagement with the characters in the movie.
Fuck; each time that i'm watching this video I realize how far sunshine is an extreme under-rated movie. Almost as all boyle's movies.... Nice edit dude btw
This is by far one of the best underated sci fi movies ever! This blows everything I mean Matrix, Avatar, Terminators, this movie is fucken crazy and reallyy good!
apart from pinbacker surviving for 7 years with serious burns all over his body (they could have tweaked that to make it more believable) thought it was a great movie, very moving, and this score is phenomenal
How is the matrix voted #21 best film when this is not? The plot, the story, the characters, the music is far more beautiful in this film than the matrix could ever dream of achieving.
Two Steps From Hell who composed this are amazing. Was gutted with COVID-19. They were coming to London to perform on tour for the first time in seven years. Rescheduled to May 2021. Hopefully the World will be a safer and better place and it can finally happen. Not hopeful, but wishing. The movie is one of my fav scifi movies. So underated and beautiful. The cast, well a lot of them are now very well known...
Damien- You clearly have never seen "Sunshine" in order to appreciate its awesomeness, "Surface of the Sun" which is what this music is called is ORIGINALLY from "Sunshine", Kick Ass just happened to use it cause it's so beautifully amazing and will take your breathe away. Yes Kick Ass is awesome but "Sunshine" is better and you can't compare if you have never seen "Sunshine". This music is at its best and most perfection on "Sunshine"
Pinbaker was pivotal to the entire story. From the moment Kaneda first reviews the log of Icarus1 and Pinbaker's description of a meteor strike (describing it as "beautiful"). That gave a hint as to the mental state of the man, and warned of what was to come. I cannot see how Sunshine would have worked without Pinbaker. There would have been no deaths. No drama. No reversals. In fact IcarusI would have succeeded in its mission, and consequently no need for Icaru2, and thus no Sunshine. :)
The only sci-fi movie that makes you feel the infinite cold and emptiness of outer space as much as the scalding warmth and tremendou weight of the sun. Nothing less than a major achievement.
PCallas jump
My goodness, this score makes you feel like you can save the world single-handedly
in this case saving the sun single handed.
return to robin's revenge
that is the plot of the movie, after all

I already saved the world lol what you mean
For some reason this movie is still one of my favourites. Great movie, great soundtrack!
Yeah the soundtrack really is amazing
Of course, it's a classic!
One of the best films ever, and there's nothing wrong with the ending, its just fine as it is.
A very underrated movie. The premise was absurd, but when you have a great story that is well told, a lot can be forgiven.
No. It's a masterpiece.
Thats the point of being science *fiction*
@@randehmarshgames4608 trueeeee

Technically there will be a point so far in the future even stardust will cease to exist. The end of the stellar age
Best SF Movie ever . Very Underrated.

Such a piece of art.

Truly, this song gives me goosebumps. Everytime i rewatch the scene where the captain dies i almost shed a tear. It's a masterpiece.
Wonderfully moving storytelling by Boyle. We take our Sun for granted but without it we are nothing.
Makes me think Dylan Thomas:
"Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
And High Flight:
"Put out my hand and touched the face of God"
I agree. It makes me cry. So much beautifull moments.
Thank you for that beautifull video Simon Broed.
underrated indeed. it's one of the coolest sci-fi movies ever made
Is it the surface of the sun? Only dream I have. Every time I shut my eyes, it's all I see.
WHAT DO YOU SEE?
You cant compare eternity with years or anything else in our world for that matter. Eternity is something beyond human comprehension..
one of the movies where music played first role. You don't need words when you hear this melody.
gentle as a whimper but more powerful than a thousand screams
It's late, I've been drinking, here I am with tears in my eyes and looking for a bit of warmth, a touch of something, something sad that cannot take away, the pain I seem to find again and again, here I am, looking, for a shine, a ray, a bit of hope to chase the moon's sadness, an erase of the day, into a beauty I'll never reach, as you here also seek, I whisper the only dream I ever have … is it the surface of the sun? You still there bro? Here I am, the same
wow, beautiful
I thought this movie was a masterpiece and the cast was outstanding very powerful and emotional 👏
Finally a HD version. Thanks for uploading. Awesome song and movie.
The part where they watch Mercury crossing the Sun was sublime.
2024 and its still my best movie
This movie made it in my personal top 10 movies of all time...

Good sir, a good copy of this amazing piece of music deserves my up vote.
This was a great movie
This shows the beauty our and its power. I loved this type of movie.
The real God, the Sun 🥰❤️
There are trillion of sun like stars...Stop thinking narrow
Beautiful. That's all I can say about this film.
Best melody in the world.
THE FOUNTAIN AND SUNSHINE WILL LIVE ON FOREVER, AND EVER, UNTIL THE SUN BURNS OUT, AND THEN IT WILL LIVE ON IN THE HEAVENS FOREVER, AND EVER.
Simply Wonderful!!! Great Work...

I agree. This movie was the best before the third act as they say
this music pushes you into the world of madness
Just because something is "different" or "unique" doesn't mean it is negative.
Epic soundtrack for one epic movie.
This song really gives a good effect on the movie's scenes. Just perfect..
OwO Words cannot describe how speechless I am at such a radient pure piece of movie art like this
People used OwO 4 years ago!!??
This is amazinG! Seriously that is some good work there! You seriously should make more videos like this. You have a talent!

This movie is just epic and amazing.
Listening to this, only one name comes to mind: CAPA
cillian murphy was amazing
Nice :) I like how you left Pinbacker out. Honestly I think someone *cough cough* Trey *cough cough* in the Icurus II should have gone crazy instead
I've got to see that movie
this movie is better than Blade Runner and MUCH better than the adaptation of Dune.
this is the best movie of all time.

nope,m it fitted perfectly with the theme.
