This was possibly the most interesting interview John Lennon ever did, and probably the high point of Jan Wenner's entire career. I am grateful this recording is here.

Such a great interview. I have the first edition "Lennon Remembers," which I know by heart. It's very cool to hear the audio of Lennon's voice, answering what I already know he's about to say. There are subtleties that make me understand that he meant some of those things differently than the printed word conveys. But also, I find it very weird to realize that this interview was recorded a decade to the day before he was taken away from us. I didn't know that. Thank you for posting this!
Wow, hearing John describe getting Allen Klein into Apple, doing it off instinct. Wow such a musical genius, not such a genius in business. Klein was a complete business disaster. Also so angry, I had forgotten. Even throws George Martin, Brian and Neil A. under the bus. Some instrumental and all loyal to the Beatles throughout. I know he has said in many interviews he was high, but wow. Once Yoko arrived on the scene, she was in the studio, speaking for John. Had to be difficult for the other three. He really respected and thought Yoko’s rock and roll music was exceptional, love is definitely blind. Just rambling, but so thankful with all the issues between he and Paul, drugs etc, that they made the music, and it is still being enjoyed by many. Also thankful that Paul did play a role in holding it together and more music was made! Love all the Beatles, and their music!
How was Klein a business disaster? He made more money for John, George and Ringo in the 3 years he was under contract than they made in the previous 8 under Brian Epstein’s contract! How is that a disaster? He lowered NEMS’s stake on Beatles releases from 25% to 5% which made them immensely wealthy from then on. Disaster because he sued them and dragged it out when they would not renew his contract? It costs them time and money and it was a hassle but he sure made them a lot of money. Hardly a disaster. Also Yoko’s albums Feeling the Space and Approximate Infinite Universe are quite good. Hardly “ramblings”. They are proper songs made by a woman whose first language is not English. People giving props to Paul for “holding it together” is kinda laughable. He had nothing to do other than make music. John, Ringo and George were married. They had families. They had lives. Complicated things like divorce, children and arrests going on. Paul did not. He had nothing to do other than music. Maybe if he had given the other 3 more time off they would have been happy to eventually make music together and keep the band going. He just kept pushing his projects on the other 3 which they resented. Magical Mystery Tour the film they hated making and it was a failure. The Get Back television/concert idea they hated from day 1 and it destroyed the band. He didn’t hold anything together, he was the reason for the band breaking up! John and George also disliked the corny and cheesy music he was making so they didn’t want to make it. In the early 70’s all three even talked about making music together sans Paul. People who know about the Beatles are not Paul fanboys know the catalyst for the breakup was Paul. John talked about it to Rolling Stone in 1970 and George talked about it many times in the 1974 tour interviews.

John Lennon had a Brutal childhood like many of us. His father left him and his mother didn’t want him imagine that feeling. When his mother finally spend some time with him, teaching him banjo and singing with him he’s thrilled and she gets run over by a drunken policeman. He achieves worldwide fame, but I have seen no matter who you are or how big you are in this world we still carry the scars of our childhood. John needed a father and a mother .in Yoko. He got both. Before Yoko. He had Brian Epstein and McCartney. Once he found his mommy and daddy, he had no need for anything or anyone else. I adore John Lennon, because of his brutal honesty. That’s what gave the Beatles, their tough edge ever-changing greatness when John was taken from us, by that nothing blob the world went crazy I think John Would never have believed this. John was a brilliant, songwriter poet, vocalist, revolutionary, witty and funny, and a brilliant Beatle and solo artist. It was a bit of a madman. Also, his views changed week to week.
