The Dallas Mavericks have been on a hot streak since the Daniel Gafford trade and the PJ Washington trade, and a large part of that has been Luka Doncic taking his game to yet another level. With how wide open the Western Conference feels this season, and with the NBA MVP up for grabs, Luka Doncic is priming himself for a late push.
He's been thriving alongside Kyrie Irving as his running mate, finding new ways to make use of rookie Dereck Lively II and his post-trade deadline teammates.
If the Dallas Mavericks can put it all together before the postseason, it's gonna get scary for the rest of the NBA.

As a fan that hated his arguing with refs, and his low effort defense.. he's actually been a lot better at both recently, as well. His rebounds, steals, and overall defense is great now.

Everybody know Luka is the True Most Valuable Player in the sense of the word. Unfortunately the award has a lot of caveats that come and go according to the narrative that suits the media, but there is no question that he is the most determinant player in the league this year.
tbh jokic is every bit as valuable to the nuggets as luka is to the mavs. they are both absolutely insane but the nuggets without jokic are just nothing. he IS that team.
The mavs without Luka and Kyrie playing half the games would be a bottom lottery team. Nuggets without joker still a 500 team. Just the coaching alone makes Denver a threat.
Notice how you had to exclude Kyrie there. Luka is good but he is no one man army.

One more advantage is since he is not that athletic, he is not prone to injury.
How frustrating it has to be for a defender to play him pretty much perfectly but you gave him 6 inches of space & he drained a 28 ft 3 right over your outstretched hand. Has to be demoralizing AF after the 3rd or 4th time that it happens.
As good as Doncic is right now he is still improving year to year And the guy just turned turned a ripe ol age of 25...my favorite to win MVP 34.41 pts 9.71 asts 8.82 rebs damn near 50 percent shooting.All around superstar
And its not like luka is overly dominant from one area of the court he is top 5 in shooting percentage from each area of the court plus being a elite playmaker there is legit no way to guard that man

he is not top 5 in efficiency from everywhere... how do you ppl come up with this stuff? he is above avarage from 3 (for the first time in his carreer i think) which is huge but he is not nearly top 5 in 3pt efficiency and he is also not top 5 in ft efficiency, just to name 2 areas.

It would be nice to have a defensive breakdown about Luka, he has been much better, he is TOP10 in 4 defensive ratings and although he is not a TOP10 defender, he is much better than people are giving him credit for. He is not good at off-ball defense, chasing guys but he is pretty solid iso and post defender, plus he has been pretty active on deflections and steals and some of them happening while defending the post.
People underestimate Luka's size and power. That's why a little bump will knock you off and when you're at his hip then you're in jail. He also has an underrated pivot game and since he's powerful and big, he can create space, draw fouls, find an open shooter or embarrass you with a fake pass behind your head.
The pass between LeGoof James' legs was hilarious. He knew LeJerkOff would be frozen, unable to rotate his decrepit hips or then bother to run the shooter off the line.

I think i get the origin of that signature slowdown step back.I think he took it from dirk's one leg shot during those mentor days.Its the same idea.Dirk one leg shot as we all know become an unstoppable weapon just because it is complemented with dirk's physique.When dirk does it,it gives that SPACE so he wont get contested.Luka on the other hand doesnt have the same physique thus he uses the force of the enemy by slowing down thus that signature slow step back gives the same idea of creating space for shot.
It’s so funny to me how the ex players…analyst…and the majority of the prominent basketball minded people don’t give this dude the credit or flowers he deserves. A lot of them don’t because for one he’s white and two he’s not American so it’s a double whammy for them. They absolutely hate the fact that the best player in the world is a European white dude.
