    Love, love, love that you did the cheese. It’s on my bucket list. Even in Texas it can get unexpectedly cold (85 one day, 35 the next) and I was stuck in the winter in the side of a road for 4-5 hours one time. It really taught me to do things like keep my phone charging every time I drive, take something to drink, snacks in the car and a blanket. I always kept first aid kits and flashlights but it was really eye opening. I was so cold, hungry and thirsty and Bored! I have a deck of cards too so I can maybe play solitaire and I now take my fully charged kindle with me too.

    It is so awesome to see that Caleb's eye healed without even a sign of a scratch! Don't worrying about your dogs making noise, they are fun to watch. If I were doing videos, my cat would be all up in my business. It would be the Bella show! LOL! I can't believe waxing cheese is that easy! I thought there would be some kind of difficult thing to do. I guess waiting for it to dry is the longest process. Great job!

    Glad to hear all is well with Caleb! Yeah! One thing, NEVER apologize for your life. Dogs barking, kids running in and out, that is a living life. A GOOD LIFE. My home is never quiet. It is filled with pet, kid and husband noise all the time. Don't think your home has to be quiet while filming. We come to see you and what you are up to.

    Nice video. Emergency kit is a must, glad you are getting them ready. It is good to have one year around in your cars, especially since Caleb goes house away from home to fish. The waxing looked fun and turned out looking good. I also like how your mixer has a lid so everything doesn’t fly out when mixing.

    Indiana here. One thing I was taught is to put a candle in a large tin can in case of emergency winter driving. Never tried it, (thankfully) but a large candle will warm up the can and keep the car relatively warm until help arrives. And the glow might help comfort you with the inevitable fright.

      First Yes Amen! And I’m so excited. I’ll have to share the story of Kodie making peanut brittle and it being my most proud mom moment. I found her doing it one day stove top from scratch. I said that’s a super hard thing to make who taught you. She said no one. No one told me it was hard or I couldn’t so I did. That’s how I treat the kitchen. Try it why not who says I can’t. Her brittle was amazing by the way.

    Hello from SW Arkansas. This has been such a fun month! Busy but fun! I am new at canning and I inherited a waterbath canner. So I have been making jelly, jam, and pickling everything that I can. I borrowed a pressure canner can it has been going nonstop to get everything done. I've been hydrating herbs and making vegetables powders. Now that I am almost out of jars that I've been gifted and my freezer is packed. I guess I will have to stop for a while. Lol. Love watch you make the pizza dough, so much that is what I will be doing this afternoon, after I pickle some last little bit of Okra.

    My car emergency kit is a tote. Includes the items you mentioned plus wastebasket size plastic bags to go over the boots/shoes or over the socks then the foot goes in the boot. Misquote netting, reg kitty litter incase I get snow stuck. Another trick is to have a large piece of cardboard / place it behind the back wheels and try to back up on the cardboard. I used it when I lived in Michigan. Emergency candles - just be careful. My boyfriend rigged a hanger that comes off the rear view mirror. Down low enough to stay away from the ceiling and low enough to let the heat flow around and up.

    Very good news about Kalabs eye. To avoid having a repeat when fishing everyone wears glasses. Check your wax for water bubbles. I used to do cheese waxing. Sad the cheese sold is full of water to get more $ as it is sold by the lb. Cheese continues to get stronger as it ages, so sharp becomes even sharper. I have several different colored wax for different cheeses.

    • @modernhomesteadalaska

    • @ravenlaughs9757
      @ravenlaughs9757 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@modernhomesteadalaska you will see water bubbles form under the wax which people will use a razor to slice open the bubble and pat away the excess water. I found the best cheese were the hard dry ones like Parmesan to wax. Mozzarella is so easy to make even from powdered milk I choose to make it fresh when needed and farm cheese another super easy soft cheese. You have to dry the cheese out so much for me wasn't worth waxing but only the dry cheeses See how it works for you, It is a fun experiment. The 2 lb blocks of cheddar, Coby and many others last a very long time in a fridge if kept in the original package, just remember they will become stronger with time. I kept a block of sharp cheddar 4 years and when I opened it almost couldn't use it was so sharp. I keep mild cheddar in the fridge way in the back have a few blocks for each year, pull as needed. We love cheese a lot too so having it on hand was important. We invested in several #10 cans of powdered cheese and have done many lbs of shredded freeze dried cheeses including cream cheese. Love seeing your video and the adventures you take Jessica👍

    I watch your videos through my playstation and large monitor and to leave a comment, I use my tablet, so the upside is that might even count as 2 views? The downside is that the community tab is not available to me on my tablet. Maybe that's because my tablet is old, idk, I just know that if I can't see the community tab and there might be others like me. I would love to know any and all details about your move to Alaska including how you chose Wasilla versus other places, if there are any details you would do differently now that you are living there, etc? I work from home so I could bring my job with me, but I am curious if your husband had a job offer when you moved or he found the job after? Also, what type of profession is he in, no details needed, just generally speaking. Finally, you mentioned that it's like 90 minutes for you to get to Anchorage, was that round trip or one way? Just wondering if your husband has a terribly long commute?
