  • We teardown the LIDL Paw Patrol Talkie Walkie and measure it.
    LIDL also has this model with Frozen and Minions branding.

    What was that little gadget you had to get the reading from the walkie-talkie?

    • @2ftg
      @2ftg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A cheap frequency counter made by IBQ. The cheap one does not go too high and has a cheap computer crystal as the frequency reference.
      But it's a good tool for getting a general idea of where stuff transmits on while not endangering my better instruments.
      It's also conveniently small.

      I have my IBQ101 for 12 years pretty nasty expensive that time because not from ebay and other but reseller eshop in my coutry. It's not perfect but good to check which frequency is transmitting on UHF radios or if it's transmitting on 446Mhz low power device thermal&humidity sensor for weather station, wireless pir sensors, remote controls, dorbell buton etc. Usable also for VHF but not very accurate for CB and hard to read actual frequency. But 3pcs GP ReCyko+ AAA batteries in there from new still in good condition

    I Have Teared Down SOO Many Walkie Talkies In My Time That Its Not Even Funny, Sadly I Did Not Videotape It. :)
    Most Of Them Are PMR These Days, But years Ago, They Where Crazy Frequencies, EVEN 7.150MHz, Some Of Them Are Just 27mhz and 40mhz, still have them around somewhere :D

    • @2ftg
      @2ftg  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      7.150MHz I'm yet to do and I'd love to do some 2.5MHz FM one's from russian railway/metro.
      And I liked looking inside radios, so I figured others might as well.

    Hi! Great video! Can you please help me? What do you think!? I have a older submersible topcom walkie talkie that uses 4,8v 700mah Nimh batteries. Consisting of 4 solded AAA 1,2V. So the compartment takes any AAA. The Nimh is a old technic and I like to replace this with Li ion. 4x1,5V =6V is that too much? Or 3x1,5=4,5V, a little lower than original.. Will the machine work on either of those? Will the original bench-charger work? What's your opinion? Thanks!

    • @2ftg
      @2ftg  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the 6V is very likely too much. And Lithium cells are nominal 3.6volts a piece, not 1.5V.
      And that's nominal, fully charged they can be 4.2V a piece.
      I would likely just replace the old cells with new good quality nimh's.
      I'm not sure that there is some obvious safe and easy way to use lithiums for that.
      Radios with 7.4V (6x 1.2V cells) are easier, as 2x Lithium-ion/polymer, or better yet, lithium iron phosphate are a decent fit.

      Yep, seen it used in super simple FRS radios.
      Also seen the better chip BK4811 used in some FRS and PMR446 radios.

  • @crypto602
    @crypto602 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice, can increase the output power for more transmitting range without external amplifier?
    also changing the frequency i mean in the uhf band..

    • @2ftg
      @2ftg  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Much more output would require an amplifier compared to running the chip barefoot, like they are doing here. There might be couple of tens of milliwatts of power available from the chip.
      For a frequency change in the 400-480MHz UHF band you'd need to find out the I2C pins on the chip and then talking to those pins with some microcontroller like arduino or esp32.
      The RF chip is Beken BK4802, like stated in the video.

      with that radio you wouldget about 1 thousend ft apart

  • @greghaff229
    @greghaff229 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sir, How or maybe why does it work? Is this a SOC radio? How would you find out in what computer language (Linex, Basic, Pascal) it runs with? Thank you

    • @2ftg
      @2ftg  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a single chip radio. And it has a built in ROM that can be used if using channel1 on PMR446. No external programming required at all.
      And if there is a separate microcontroller (MCU) that is used to control it, then it depends on the microcontroller and it's vendor on what tooling exists for it.
      Usually there's a C compiler available for more or less all microcontrollers.
      In the case of some very cheap or limited one's one might have to resort to assembler.
