    These are surprisingly good for the money, heavy made, good quality, lithium battery etc.. Hard to really judge the range without real-world conditions, but If you set your expectations a little lower than the marketing blurb, you will probably be happy!
    I quite like the voice / speech channel select notification. Much better than the screen in practice as you do not need to look at the unit or fiddle with little buttons. Especially at this time of the year in the cold!
    Amazon has these:
    UK - amzn.to/3XNgmxf
    USA - amzn.to/3ZUkEog
    If you would like to buy me a coffee or support the channel you can do so via Patreon at / backofficeshow
    I do have some bits and pieces on my web store at backofficeshow.com
    Please note: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. As such links to Amazon products within this video may fall under this. Thanks to all of you who use these links and help support the channel - you are fantastic!
    Thanks you lovely people, and keep on tinkering!

    I bought a pair of these for my grandson (he's 3 years old) and I to mess with. I programmed all 16 channels to the same channel, so I don't have to worry about him fiddling with the channel selector. Works great.

    On my covert I put 2 old name tag magnets on the bottom because my truck had the rubber flooring and they were strong enough to go through to the metal flooring

    For what they are, these are really a great value. Programmable, 16 channels, scan, flashlight, repeater capable. A radio like this 30 years ago was at least $250 and NOT user programmable. Program with a laptop and free software (CHIRP). Audio is clear and they just work.

    They are BF-88E, a modified BF-888 with a fixed antenna, USB rather than 230V charger (which on the BF-888 has a rather sketchy mains cable!) and ERP limited to 0,5W to comply with PMR446 rules. Top orange button is squelch off/monitor, lower one is torch (but could be changed to emergency alarm using CHIRP or other software if you have the programming cable)

    Could have used these when I used to go to the carboots with the wife as she would just vanish off and I would spend most of it trying to find her whilst looking around myself.

      That would be a great use for them! I will have to remember that myself

    Worth doing a bit of research before using these. Some of the Chinese radios broadcast on illegal / ham frequencies.

      I think the 433 band is ok. I remember that one as a kid for all the RC cars 😂

      @@backofficeshow : Well- if not othervice stated and reprogrammed by the vendor- they are shipped with a mix of commercial and civil frequencies. I would dump the memory of those radios to verify frequency and transmitt power before use.

      the ones in these video are pre-tuned to PMR446 frequencies which are legal to use in UK and Europe without a licence. FRS versions exist for the USA.

    Programming cable and CHIRP is essential to set them up on the right frequencies in the UK. My BF-888s had random settings on each channel from new! Once set up they are simple to use, can't go wrong.

    about why you didnt get a clear transmission:
    it is better to transmit while outside, as the home can interfere with the signal. i used to have these and the range is great stock, but i would invest in a better antennae

  • @whollymindless
    @whollymindless ปีที่แล้ว +3

    These should be the PMR446 versions that are license free. 500mw FM on the first 8 channels and might be digital on the last 8 channels. (It's similar to US' FRS but different.)

    • @rtnVFRmedia
      @rtnVFRmedia ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are analogue and set up out of the box with all 16 current PMR446 channel, and appear to be certified for all CEPT countries

    These are not 888s radios these are the PMR 446 licence free sets with 0.5 watt power.Ive got a set of these 88E and the antenna cannot be removed to meet the requirements of licence free.

    Do you get interference/conversations from other radios in the location your at. If you can hear them they can hear you sort of scenario.
