I would really like to see a fully in-depth lore book for the drop universe, I've been reading the books and lore since the first dropzone 2 player box and I think it's really something special.
You Mean battle cruisers? I had to doublecheck their site no Battleships, although i had a bit of a panic as i couldn't find my Rome battle cruiser but it seems they are in a double pack and just not part of the box art anymore.
I'll be honest, I've not had nearly enough games with the previous edition to make any real judgement and I know that we can only actually know how good the new edition feels once we're playing it but, I will say that the changes to orbitals and damage feel a little off-putting to me. My friends and I rarely get the time to play nowadays but back when we did, it was amazing. Nothing else matches the exact feeling you get fom a tense game of dropfleet, even at a low points value. In particular, to this day, we still seem to always find a way to bring up those one-in-a-million moments where games would turn on their heads due to cascading catastrophic damage effects. The chaos of an entire battlegroup being wiped out by one absurdly lucky volley from a single frigate with a dream due to being too close together was one of our favourite things about the game and it's a shame to hear that the new edition plans to cut down on it. Still, I cannot speak for the more experienced players and we don't yet know the details so for all I know, this could be just the thing the game needed. Either way, I am still hopeful for the new edition and believe it might still prove itself as my favourite system with a little luck.
Im new to the game. Bought an old psr battlefleet and rules book and getting the 2.0 starter set. However, i will probably be holding off on the small fighters/bombers plastics until the faction specific ones come out. Really dont want them all the same.
Please Dave, make the Scourge win some major battles! I like the humans but we need some narrative tension to make their success feel earned. At the moment we seem to have a mix of great successes to costly successes. The Scourge need to feel more dangerous! 😈
Critical hits didn't do double damage, they bypassed armor. Confused it with DZC! If crits really are gone, armor is much more valuable and ships will clearly live longer.
Huge Fan of DFC and looking so forward to the new Edition. Only the Bioficer are for me a bit to ugly. They look like toyguns with triangles at their sides. The paint-sheme is nice and evil looking though. And the new UCM Design looks also nice for me
And yeah, fighters and bombers, I can't wait to play games where the actual captial ship models are basically for show and the real game is fought flying cardboard tokens around on the board...
I’ll try to ask this here: what is the deal with the heavy bomber in UCM? Can any UCM carrier toss these out now because I can’t find anything that says you can’t. Is UCM now the bomber faction for some reason ?
Some tough love because I adore this game, but I hope that is a small copy version of the rules...it isn't even bound properly, look at that separation in the middle, I've seen leaflets from recruiting fairs better of higher quality. Compare to the quality of the original rulesbook, even though it wasn't hardback it was a decent book filled with lore and other interesting things. This looks like the same leaflet that now comes with the Dropfleet starter set. I put up with the huge nosedive in model quality when Hawk evaporated, that's a cost thing and I get it (although I'm sure we'll get more cumbersome-ly massive units as usual), but messing with the rulebook just gets to me, just lazy. Even the few pieces of artwork shown on the pages previewed in this video are reused eiither from old edition or taken from other sources, not done for the book specifically.
So there is much to unpack here. In the name of streamlining, TT has changed the orbital layers from High/Low/Atmosphere to Orbit/ Atmosphere (for idiots) / Atmosphere for ships that used to have the Atmosphere rule. Why? We still have essentially 3 layers, it's just there is added punishment for ships to go into one now. The Arc changes combined with being able to turn on Weapons free orders means that the game is severely dumbed down. Going on Weapons free orders has minimal drawbacks. Even the Signature hit from the spike has been reduced from 12" to 6". In every way this dumbs down the game, and the ships balance would need to be toned down since it is so easy now to line up weapons free Front narrow shots. Finally, the change to critical hits so they no longer ignore armor means everyone is going to shift to ships with save modifiers like Scald, since the average 4+ save across most fleets means that without modifiers your ships firepower is halved. Combined with the lower WF penalties, the larger weapon fire arcs for F(N) and Broadside weapons, makes the game far simpler than it used to be. I don't know if TTcombat will achieve their aim of streamlining the game so it plays faster, but they sure have made it far less skill based so players don't need to think too hard.
If I read the rules correctly Weapons free disallows to use assets and the new damage control order heals and helps against boarding, which also seems to be new. And the size for the narrow arcs is actually not bigger, it is listed as 22 degree, that is the exact same value as it is now. Without PD and battalions able to board ships, there could be good reasons to not use weapons free as most other orders seem to have gotten better. For Battalions it seems you also have now to choose if you want to go for the mission or board enemy ships. I personally think it is too early to say if it is far less skill based.
I'll be honest, the majority of these changes do not sound good to me, and several of them sound like they would result in MORE things to manage, rather than less. Also, he refers to things about the current game, like taking minutes to resolve ground combats, but I've never had that experience. Ground combats 30 seconds to a minute to deal with, its just collecting dice and rolling them.
Maybe wait for the rules and play it yourself before making blind judgments. If you don't like it, then we'll. I hope you can find people who will be willing to still play the older edition then...
More Dave pls.
Looking forward to the new edition release!

Getting the hype just as when DZC was released! Highly looking forward a DZC 3 or 1.0-RESURRECTION in the future years! Great games!
Agree more Dave please!!! and show me those Battleships!!!
Sounds great. Can't wait to test it on the tabletop
Pre-ordered the new 2 player starter yesterday and the Bioficer light and battleship boxes plus the dice. So looking forward to the new edition.

@@Dazzxpyeah. Meant Battle Cruisers. Soz.
@@neilmerrifield2281 Battle cruisers I think are better anyway, faster more manoeuvrability, smaller signature more flexibility in orders.
I should be getting my copy by the end of the week. Looking forward to the new rulebook.

I’m excited about the new rules!
8:10 finer rules commentary
This looks so good, can't wait for 2.0
Are you planning on doing a special edition rules book? Containing all the lore and awesome background and pictures?
love the move to clear acrylic bases, to bad they are not 8 sided, would make it easier to move and turn 45 degrees.

I always thought Dropfleet Commander went the way of the Dodo, extinct!!!

They just attacked the PHR core systems, so we will see.
Sounds good. More terrain types (Micrometeor clouds) are good. Two lists ( thank you Warmachine) is good.

@TTCombat that new Scourge ship box is creeping closer to focus!
Scourge Battleship you say! Colour this neuro-parasite excited!
is the new faction going to make it to dropzone
Yes. It's been teased in December calender
we've already seen a render of one of their tanks so yes

This is a nice surprised. But Like I keep saying, PLEASE GIVE US MORE PHYSICAL MATERIAL INSTEAD OF PDF'S
