The '78 Mk 11 250s and 370s M206 and 207 were the first model Pursangs to go to an up-pipe exhaust, added a bolt on reed valve to the cylinder and cantilevering both shock mounts while some countries got shocks with reservoirs, some didn't as my US model or the others my dealer had. Beautiful '79 above.
I could say that I was born (in a hospital but, so goes the expression) and raised on a large ranch/farm in S. Idaho from the early 60’s until I graduated and moved out for college. My parents were all for me riding dirt bikes. Was very different then compared to now. At about six or seven on Hodaka Dirt Squirt, I began MX racing. They saw potential, I guess and the love I had for the sport. Later I had a Hodaka Super Rat and then a KX250 (from the 1976 KX with a new bike every year until 1982). Man, I loved it when a Kawasaki dealership provided me with my ride and gear. So, I stayed in the 250 class, where I eventually made expert and had some sponsorships. During my racing years, I saw many really cool bikes. Bultaco Pursang’s, Montessa’s, Maico’s of course, Husky’s with the silver patch on the fuel tank…Ia buddy of mine had a Husky that was an automatic of sorts. It was all black and gold, it was the sexiest thing I had seen until he came to the practice track one day with the 1981 Maico 490. We had all just graduated high school and this was going to be my last year. He was injured a week or so after getting his bike and he wanted me to race it in the open class. I had only raced the 125 class once…once. Too damn many bikes per moto and holeshots were an insane exercise in futility. So, I took him up on it and practiced a couple of weeks…every day and as long as possible each day. Over the course of about 8 years doing ranch work and moving sprinkler pipe on the farm side, I had saved well over $15k and did not have work that summer…focused on riding, racing, chicks, tunes and getting high! That Maico was the finest bike I have ever ridden and I currently own a 2021 KTM 300XCW. I wish I could get a 490, as a project and completely restore it. Also raced against the early Elsinores, RM’s and YZ’s. Those were great times being a kid and then a young adult w/it being a bonus that I didn’t f*ck myself up for life…had “no fear” gene back then and lived WFO! 😉🤙🤙🤙

my poppy has a 52 year old bone stock Bultaco and it runs like a champ and I mean stock but we will restore a bit of it so I can ride it we started it last time I was there down but I wasn't allowed to ride it:( still a good vid keep posting
A friend had one of these back in the 80’s and I rode it a good bit. It was the first “long travel suspension“ bike I ever rode, and it was amazingly fast, dang near terrifying. A true, absolute BEAST!
I had a 78, we ran a Mikuni carb and did an upgrade on the front forks, mill the triple clamp out 1mm to 36 and run a set of Jap (I know blasphemous) KYB forks, but that and a set of Works performance shocks and it was equal to any Jap mxr of the time.
Hi friend, you have done an outstanding job, thanks so much for sharing.
Only miss the sound and smoke of this classic 2t engine.
Thank you..

Worked at a Maico/ Montesa shop. Never had the chance to ride a Bultaco. Across the street were Carabella' s.
Absolutely beautiful.Would love to take it for a spin.
A Masterpiece
Muy bonita Moto . Pusieron su granito de arena . El gran piloto Jim Pomeroy. Y el no menos Toni Elías. 👍👏🇪🇸
Bultaco fue una gran marca española, lástima que desapareciera.
I just love the name. PURSANG is Catalan for thoroughbred.
Pursang is in french, not catalan.
