I accidentally learnt three things without knowing with Winter (my Betta's name), 1)He literally recognises me and follows my finger around instead of being scared
2)I was studying and pointed my pen at him (I don't know why lol) and he started flaring, I was first concerned not knowing why he was doing that
3)Everytime I wanted to feed him, he jumps to the food on my finger, instead of letting me place the food in the water, I got jumpscared a lot lol, but then I heard it's possible to train them some simple Betta tricks❄️💙❄️

Bettas are smart. You can train them to go through rings or small obstacle courses to reach their food.

This video makes people buy MORE fish without knowing what they're doing, and if that happens MORE animal abuse is going to happen. So, allow me to explain.
BEFORE buying your fish, you must research the nitrogen cycle. ( I'll explain it the best i can. )
So, set up your tank, do everything you need, then add your water, turn your filter and heater on. ( You HAVE to treat your water for chlorines and chloramines, some good brands are API and Seachem. It is ESSENTIAL to have a filter, this is the home of good bacteria. However, make sure it is low flow, betta fish aren't good at swimming. ) After that is done, add your food, or buy ammonia and add it into the tank. You MUST leave your tank for 1-2 months before adding your fish, ( unless you have a water test kit. ) In short, food produces ammonia ( TOXIC AND WILL KILL YOUR FISH. ) After it is introduced, more good bacteria will multiply and eat off the ammonia, the byproduct of this is nitrites ( TOXIC AND WILL KILL YOUR FISH. ) More good bacteria spreads, and then eats the nitrites. The other byproduct of this is Nitrate, ( HARMFUL, HOWEVER WILL NOT KILL YOUR FISH IN LOW AMMOUNTS. ) Once you have produced these good bacterias, they will call your filter home. That is why it is ESSENTIAL for a HAPPY and HEALTHY Betta fish. ( YOU CAN SPEED THE CYCLE UP BY ADDING SEACHEM PRIME AND STABILITY. ) Betta fishes water pH should be 7 ppm. ( Theyre tropical fish, they prefer slightly acidic water. ) Betta fish NEED 5 gallons, However 10 gallons is preferred. Just because they are small does not mean they should get a bowl. ( Your fish will die quicker, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates build quicker in smaller tanks, meaning if you skip a singular water change your fish could potentially be put at risk for ammonia burns. ( Kills your fish. ) Betta fish LOVE stimulating places, and lots of hidey holes, Without these, your betta can become incredibly bored, and sulk at the bottom of their tank, or go to fin nipping as a solution. ( Will also kill your fish if you're not careful. ) You can use Silk Plants, or live. However, plastic will rip your fishes fins and could also subdue them to diseases and tail rotting. Dirty water is a MAIN Cause of diseases and death, keep it clean. " Why shouldn't you keep a betta in a bowl? Mine lived in one for 3 years. " You're probably asking yourself that, well bowls do NOT circulate oxygen at ALL, therefore meaning your fish will be gasping for air at the surface. ( Another thing, betta fish WILL jump out of the tank if ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are too high, or they find the tank too small. ) Your fish will become sick most likely once, a couple of those are: Dropsy, Swim Bladder, Finrot, Hole In Head, Ick/Ich, Columnaris, Popeye, Tumour And Velvet. These are all EXTREMLY DANGEROUS to your fish. Let me tell you some noticeable signs of these sicknesses occuring.
Dropsy: Extreme body swelling and pineconing of scales. ( Virus, bacterial infection or parasites are a cause of this. )
Columnaris: Cottony white growths along the body and or gills. ( Stress and poor water quality cause this. )
Hole In Head: Visible holes above the eyes. ( poor nutrition and water quality. )
Ich/Ick: small white dots on your fish, rubbing against decor. ( Poor water quality, stress, or contagious water companions. )
Fin And Tail Rot: White growth, black growth, discolouration around fins or tail, fins and tail look tattered and ragged. ( Poor water quality. )
Popeye: Bulging Eyes coming out of their sockets. ( Prolonged exposure to bad water quality, or Tuberculosis. )
Swim Bladder Disease or disorder: Floating on side, difficulty swimming, or regulating depth. ( Genetics, overfeeding, or bacterial infection.)
Tumour: lump or bumps. ( varies. However this is ALWAYS fatal. )
Velvet: Goldish-yellow rust-like dusting. Rubbing on decor. (Stress, cold and poor water quality.)
Fish can be susceptible to all of these diseases, and it usually dies because of improper care, not the fact that they " don't live long. " Betta fish can live for 7-9 years with proper care, they're animals with real life feelings, just like us, or dogs and cats. They don't understand why you don't love them like you would a more, common pet. After all, they're extremely intelligent, and just want to be loved like any other animal. You can train them to do tricks, also. They're no different to your common bird or dog. Just because you can't pat them, doesn't mean you can't interact with them. They deserve love like any other animal does. It isn't " just a fish. " It's more then that, it's a living creature who can feel pain and even get depressed when they aren't cared for. If you don't love it like a dog or cat, what's the point in owning one? They're not just your decorations.

      1) get a bigger tank
      2) get a heater
      3) get a filter
      4) get live plants
      5) get good substrate
      6) measure your water levels
      7) change water everyday - until your water levels even out.
      - your betta fish had rot. That comes from poor water quality. Sadly I assume your betta is now dead, as you seek your information on a sick fish under a youtube video, and not by calling an fish store, that could have helped you save him.
If I am wrong, and you saved his life, then kudos, and much respect! And I am glad I was wrong in my assumption.

It was a misnomer on someone's part to decide that Betta Fish was more appropriate than Siamese Fighting Fish as a name. Sort of like renaming Angelfish as Cichlidae since that is their Latin name. Also one thing, I don't think Siamese Fighting Fish actually evolved in rice paddies since human civilization's rice paddies only go back to about 7,000 BC in Asia and that may be pushing it. But they certainly evolved somewhere where they needed to breathe air. Of course they do live in rice paddies today!
