I have no idea who you are guy, but I just want to thank you for the depth of my soul for these vids. I have been out of the Army for 8 years now, and have struggled greatly, trying to find a new career that would give me the same sense of purpose, that being a Soldier did. After watching your vids, I can say beyond a shadow of doubt THIS is what I want to do. I have not been this optimistic and excited about a career aspect, since I shipped out for Basic at the age of 18. Again thank you soo much good sir!

I’ve literally had 38 ice surgeries… And I never got to see the operating room due to my lack of eyesight.

I worked in Pharmacy so we had the whole issue of knowing where every drug is. We always had our new hires working on putting the drug order away. They learn where things are and the more senior techs can run the pharmacy. After they stock we'd have them fill so they would have to go retrieve the drugs from the shelf. It was pretty effective.

Hello from Ireland 👋😀🇮🇪 I've had 3 surgeries so far, each time I was terrified. First 2 surgeries were Orthopaedic related and 3rd was to Gynae related. Most recent surgery I had was a Diagnostic Laparoscopy, I was a bag of nerves to the point I started to hyperventilate 😖 doesn't get easier but this video is interesting and well explained 🙂👍well done! 👨‍⚕️

I've had surgeries throughout my life. But I NEVER really pay attention to what the OR looks like. My most resent surgery was 2 year to remove my gallbladder. All remember was sliding myself on table and being covered with blankets. I also remember talking to a nurse. But also watch the surgeon a thing on my leg. Then was asleep, I woke up to the anesthetist pulling a type out of my throat.

You will spend a great deal of time peeking into the OR's trying to determine an approximate time that room will come down so you can strip the table, wipe down the field tables, mop the floors and empty kick buckets, biohazard, linen and waste bins. Many times you might be expected to grab the feet during transfer from table to stretcher. You will stay busy doing things not even in your job description

Wow, I assume that a lot of your classes to learn to be a surgical tech go over all of those instruments. Also, do you get to spend a good amount of time in a hospital learning how to find things you need? My goodness, I'm interested in this field but that was a massive amount of "stuff" you guys need to be able to find and use properly. Amazing.

    • @SurgicalTechTips

The stuff, is learned through using it in the OR setting. In school you learn what the certain pieces of equipment do, but in actual practical use is when the knowledge about where it all is and when its used comes in to play.

My two most recent surgeries they used purple glue instead of sutures it was great! I’m sure there were internal sutures though.

Surgical Tech Tips more evenly distributed would be a better solution. You have a person doing all the setup/ prep and makes 27k a year to assist a guy who makes 250k a year

My beef where I worked was that there was no specialty pay for OR staff. ER and ICU had that distinction, why not OR? You couldn't pull a nurse from another dept to help on busy days. I admit you would Not want me to be your ICU nurse. They deserved that pay, but OR should get it too.

As the father of an anesthesiologist I understand your frustration, but remember, the guy making 250k (or most likely a lot more) went to school for 12 years including his residency, and maybe another year or two as a fellow before he started making a decent wage.

Hello there sir! I am a new subscriber and love a lot of your videos. I myself is an operating room nurse here in the Philippines but planning to work abroad for greener pasture. I like to watch your videos and exposed myself in different settings of Operating Room there and the differences between here and there. Keep up the good work! 😊

What room/corridor does the clean SPD elevator open to in your Surgical department? I am a medical equipment planner (biomedical engineer) and I work with architects on the design/layout of the hospital and this is my first time working on the surgical department.
