Apologies for the odd camera angle. You can file complaints after following me on Mastodon: fosstodon.org/@thelinuxcast
Matt, what a classy move! I am so impressed with your kind words promoting Jay's site. You clearly do what you do for all the right reasons!
Always happy to see GNU/Linux TH-camrs recommending other great GNU/Linux creators!
The sixth recommendation for LInux tutorials is here! "The Linux Cast".
1. Learn Linux TV (Website and YT - Jay L. Linux SysAdm from Akamai formerly Linode)
2. ItsFOSS (Website)
3. Linux Handbook (Website)
4. Linux Journey (Website)
5. Linux for Dummies (ebook or PDF/ ePub from Amazon)
Obviously The Linux Cast (YT/ himself) and lastly not listed but least is the man man or RTFM (Read the Friendly Manual).
Great to a shoutout for Learn Linux TV. Jays channel got me through all my Linux / Unix related units at Uni, and taught me more than I would ever realistically need to know along my own Linux pathway. Year after year I find myself going back to his channel to learn new things
I've bought the "Linux for Dummies" book and still be the most helpful Linux learning resource
Linux for Dummies and Linux Bible are great books but the best one out there is Linux In Easy Steps by Mike McGrath
Jay's proxmox video series helped me tremendously!
Learn Linux TV is the GOAT. I'm still using the Arch install that I did following his guide. It endured 3 years now.
Hi matt love your show 🎉
Nicely done, Matt. I got a lot from Jay, DT, and you on my learning Linux journey. Hats off!
I bought a book called "Linux: The Comprehensive Guide" it's well over a thousand pages long and covers almost everything to do with Linux. Was 60 dollars though. I also bought another book called "Linux Pocket Guide: Essential Commands" which has been a lot of help.
watched all jays bash scripting vids they were good. good video you made too i enjoy new resources
I think we have the same speakers. Great video as usual
Linux fondation was quite usefull for me. In addition to commands you also have logic and philosophy behind Linux.
Done all of these except I don’t have the book. Just added to my amazon list though! Thanks!!
titus tech talk - Live streams are good resource
Jack Wallen's channel has a series of Linux videos, and he deserves many more followers.
There is a great website to learn commands, I'm not sure it's super new user friendly but it's a gamified way of learning the command line called over the wire. I really recommend it for someone who wants to improve their command line habilities. It makes it fun and engaging and the difficulty progression is very well handled.
*How Linux Works + The Linux Command Line* books to reading worms :)
You learn things by using it and reaserching your questions, from easy to more difficult.
You don't learn deliberately to learn something. Nothing I tried to learn deliberately were learned by me in the end (apart of basic school topics), because it's a wrong motivation.
I haven't even learned English deliberately, it happened naturally.
So long as you have interest both methods work.
Jay's channel is mostly servers and devops. Wouldn't Linux Experiment have been a better suggestion?
Jay has an entire course for beginners.
Just for fun, I installed Mint on an old MacBook, but that was a disaster. Now I've got a nice Minisforum PC which will work much better. I'd love to nuke Windows 11 and never return! 😅
