Do you have any tips for handling customers questions about the number of coats that you’re applying? If you can do it in one coat when spraying, how do you handle the customers question when they ask you if you are going to apply a second coat?
We just explain that a high quality paint will cover in one given the right circumstances. If it needs two then we will do two

Depends on the sidings
Yeah, rougher siding you want to back roll. Manufactured siding like this you can usually just spray. Though sometimes when it gets old and weathered back rolling can still be good. It forces the paint into any weathered areas or micro cracks like in cedar or around nail heads.
How many coats do you spray. Can you give some scenarios. In guessing one this time because you primed?

You say 5-15 tip at 2200psi. Is that the psi just after the point the fingers disapere and taper? Also how long does that craft shield holder last b4 it wont lock in anymore and just flops up and down. Never had one. Thanks
How do you handle spraying interior walls where the ceiling is about 50% higher than a typical bedroom wall. Would you spray horizontally and work up the wall that way by using a raised platform as you get higher and higher up the wall? Or would you do it vertically and go up as far as you can and then get on a raised platform and then spray the second half vertically. My guess is horizontally like you are doing in this video.
Did you add prime first and then painted. Or just painted with paint and primer?
Do you think adding an extender to the paint when you have to spray on the sunny side of the house would help with lap marks and possible bubbling issues?

I enjoyed the 30 inch wand yesterday. Helped alot. Was super awkward up high on a ladder even with ladder arms but it went well. Definitely more fatigued at the end of the day since I'm not used to using the wand. Should get easier as I keep using it.

Would like to see a vid on how you would tackle a vinyl siding job. Have you guys done some in the past? Do you usually stay away from painting vinyl? I know most people advise against it, but I suppose it's a cheaper alternative.
We do paint it, you need to use vinyl safe colors though

If using sherwin williams paint, use superpaint or higher quality, like duration or emerald. Be wary of darker colors that use black pigments in the formula. Darker colors will warp the siding. This is why most vinyl siding houses use lighter tones.

If the corner boards and window trim is to be a different color , which do you paint first or do you just roll the trim after painting the sides?
James King you mask them off if there is a major colour difference or you can just stop short and brush the last section of board close to the trim
I tend to rather tape it off then brush trims in
It's better to hit the corners on point first with a horizontal spray pattern, then spray the walls out towards them working from the top down. The paint distortions are called "dry laps" and areas where the coat is too thin are called "holidays". It's ok to spot check the product with a "wet mil" gauge and follow the application recommendations. Back rolling/brushing is not necessary when the prep is done properly and all angles are covered. Rolling scaffolds are preferred over ladders when painting most walls. Long tip extensions should only be used for very hard to reach areas and use a smaller diameter "whip line" at the last few feet of spray hose on airless and conventional sprayers to help reduce fatigue on continuous spray jobs where it's not uncommon for a painter to spray 25-50 gallons a day depending on hours, wind loss and mil density. When painting the side of a steel building like a power plant or factory from a "window washer scaffold", each pass from the top to the ground is called a "drop". One could also encounter several "drops" on a large house from a ladder or standard scaffolding. Try to avoid dry lap on the previous drop. Stay very aware of wind direction when spraying outdoors and avoid overspray blowing on all visible roofing and on other peoples property, especially automobiles. Even when running crews of up to a dozen industrial painters, I still grabbed a gun and painted right along with them and preferred the shorter trigger myself. I was in the paint business for about 25 yrs before I switched trades and became a control room operator at a power plant and have seen my share of product, equipment and technique on all types of surfaces including automotive. Keep in mind custom paint pays the best rate. Stay safe, keep your gun clean and your paint strained! Cheers!

@@kensummerfield7899 Always spray the large surfaces first so even if the paint gets on the trim it it's not an issue. Then paint the trim by cutting it in with a quality brush of the type purchased from a paint outlet rather than a big box store for best results. A 3 inch sash brush with polymer bristles for water borne paint or a natural bristle for oil based paint will suffice. Very straightforward process. Feel free to let me know how your project is progressing and don't be afraid to ask any questions at any time. It's always better to do the job correctly the first time. Quality painting can be very time consuming but that's what separates true painters from "wanna be's". Kind regards. Ray L.
2 questions, do you get spits with you 30 inch extension? I watch closely and can not tell, even when you stop and go at tradition points.
I have a 10 inch extension and sometimes I do spit and sometimes not.

I am currently painting my house for the first time. I have noticed with my air sprayer that is leaves quite bit of paint at the bottom of the can. I still need that paint for my project. I am currently combining cans to make a full can. Do you have any other suggestions?

I'm in the market for an airless paint gun. After doing a little research I've narrowed it down to the titan 1700 hea. Is the Wagner 170 and the titan 1700 the same system? This is just for work around the house.
Titan and Wagner are the same. A Titan 440 is a Wagner PS 321. Exact same different color.

I am the painter the best one the Fresno
I've been spraying behr exterior flat paint. The t111 siding finish came out looking uneven. Behr flat paint isn't really flat, (it kind of has a sheen to it.) would I still have This problem if I used a paint like kellymoore flat paint. Kelly Moore flat paint has a true flat finish. With the behr paint You can really see the places where I started and stopped, it looks heavy in places is the best way I can explain it.

If it is supposed to be flat and it is not I would take it back. But, I would never recommend Behr paint, it is not a high quality paint

Ugh---- the homes here on the west coast of BC in vancouver are 3 stories high, acrylics, stucco, hardiboards, cement boards, all sorts of peaks and valleys, no ladders hopping allowed due to being watched by wcb in the city , steel toed boots all the time,proper scaffolding that conforms with wcb, lowest voc paints,They'll shut a company down in a heartbeat.Very expensive homes in an expensive city. Lots of competition, tough to make a decent buck unless you specialize, with stains, etc. Spraying a shed like your doing here is rare here. Good video

In order to apply an even coat of paint the gun must be pointing perpendicular to the surface being painted throughout the entire stroke with half fan overlaps

@@mrjessephillips yes i think it works for him, exterior paint is not as sensitive to this concept but when spraying indoors on a smooth surface and lights shinning it will definitely matter

It depends on the paint if it's good paint your good. And depends on the painter if your missing spots or not adding enough paint then yes but then your just wasting more money on paint. It's better spend more money on good paint. There's always paint that say one coat only.

I paint my parents house with stucco paint. Real stucco. It had a cement base to it.

can you comment on painting / spraying when your eaves and fascia are different color (e.g. white) than the siding? I imagine paint siding first, trying to minimize overspray in the eaves, then mask the siding, and spray eaves?
use a shield and do it. if you can do it well enough from down below you can barely tell. once done touch up with the base color.

@@kiva822 i always do the siding/stucco first. over spray into the undereaves is okay just keep it minimal. after use a shield and mask the siding as you spray the under eaves.
Well the 1x4 trim that is used not on a corner, window or door trim is something not common in our area. It helps you find a start and stop point but we typically use hardy plank siding and the house won’t have random trim pieces, in random spots down a wall, to have this luxury when spraying. How do you start and stop on a 60’ wall that doesn’t have these?

If you're painting outside Just crank that one up the whole way. You wouldn't know what psi you have with that pump.
