- A group of Oakland residents is getting ready to submit a notice of intention to begin the recall efforts of Mayor Sheng Thao. It’s the first step to try to get the mayor out of office. Jocelyn Moran reports.

Changing price alone won't do anything, Oakland police are not allowed to even arrest most criminals. The change has to be fire city council president Nikki furtado bas and disband the Citizens police commission they are the real problem with Oakland not arresting criminals but it will take a strong pro police mayor which Thao is not

It's not just Oakland that needs a recall. The whole state of California needs a recall from the governor down to the mayors that enabled all the criminals.
I feel sorry for her. Oakland is a mess for a long time. I blame this on the people that don't care about their community. You can't expect someone to come and save you. The mayor isn't a monarch, it's the city council members who are largely responsible for the downward-slide of Oakland. Their obstructionism in OPD's duties, the misappropriation of funds while city infrastructure continues to crumble, unwillingness to hold the DA to account for not prosecuting crimes and allowing esoteric organization an outsized voice in influencing city policy.

I went to Oakland last year while on a road trip going through Fresno, San Jose, up to Oakland , San Francisco and down to Big Sur. My family and I were shocked. We stayed a night in San Jose prior and were amazed by how clean and beautiful everything was then went to Oakland and thought we accidentally drove through the most dangerous parts of the city or something everything was run down and dead, but that was even in the neighborhood. There were trash, the buildings looked like they needed a lot of work and stores were closed. I don’t think all of Oakland was like that but for a good chunk of it to be like that😢

How did we get here? Mayor Sheng Thao told the media if she didn't have a police chief by end of December 2023, then she would declare a state of emergency.
After receiving 3 names for consideration , and one of them was the previous chief of police. She didn't want him to be on the list. Instead of making an effort to start the interview process she asked for a new list of 3 candidates.
