      Hi Joey, You're welcome for the video and thanks for the comment. These machines are very reliable provided users do the maintenance. I used a Jura ENA Micro 9 at home daily for 3+ years making ~6 cups/day. That's >6,500 brew cycles. Never had a problem and the E4 uses a nearly identical brewing system. I highly recommend using the Smart water filter. It comes with the E4 and if you continue to use a water filter as directed you will never have to descale the machine. Internal limescale deposits are the number one cause of problems. Also do the automatic coffee system cleaning cycle when indicated. On my Jura it was about once a month at the 6 cups/day.
      Hope that helps!

    A few years in automatic espresso machines and still no definite answer on 3 key points for me:
    1. Which brand/model has the best built-in grinder in terms of fineness
    2. Which machine brews at the right temperature (all machines I tested in comparison with Krups are lacking flavours, they are producing under-extracted shots...)
    3. Best overall usability: on start and turn off auto rinsing / seal the bean container lid / good display UI / cup LED lighting, etc...
    Basically what is the best bean-to-cup machine in terms of a good espresso shot / closest to a manual machine paired with a good grinder.

      All I can do is give you my opinion on my machine. I have a new Gaggia Brera that I just purchased a few weeks ago from Whole latte love and I have zero complaints. I recently went to a local cafe to see the comparison in quality and taste to my machine and to be 100% honest, it wasn't any better. I've heard a lot of people complain about automatic machines but personally, I couldn't be happier. The Brew unit in this machine is the exact one they use in the more expensive ones so it really comes down so what you need the machine for. Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for. ☕

      @Wholelattelovepage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi v, I'll do my best to answer your questions...
      1. The grinders in the Jura machines do a "fine" job. It depends a bit on the coffee used and strength setting (amount of coffee dosed) but on most Jura machines I can get very close to "choking" the machine - no flow because grind is set to too fine a setting.
      2. The Pulse Extraction Process used in these Jura machines slows down espresso extraction. I would not characterize espresso on these machines as being under-extracted unless one of the brew parameters like temp setting, grind or dose are off. I also like the Gaggia Accademia and Babila with their spout mounted flow control dials which allow one to restrict flow for espresso and increase flow for longer coffees. The Jura machines can use up to 16g of coffee per brew cycle which is closest to a typical double shot in a cafe. Other manufacturers like Gaggia use 2 grind cycles when making doubles.
      3. IMO Jura has the best UI, only machines with cup lighting effects. they are the easiest to maintain - most convenient. Machines from all manufacturers do turn on/turn off rinses.
      Manual machines will always have the potential to producer a higher quality shot. Getting there takes some effort, knowledge and skill. That said, automatics produce consistent results. As Square Hammer mentioned it's usually better than you'll get in most cafes but that depends on the quality of the barista. FYI most Starbucks use automatic machines.

    I am still waiting for which auto or semiauto maker/model produces the best shot.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi JK, In semi-auto machines the best shot has more to do with the coffee, grind quality and skill/knowledge of the user than the machine. As you go up in price of machines you get more consistency as far as thermal stability/consistent temps, better steaming, reliability, etc. In bang for the buck I'd go with the Profitec Pro 500 with Flow Control: www.wholelattelove.com/products/profitec-pro-500-pid-espresso-machine-with-flow-control
      Flow control allows you to change the flow rate of brew water to the coffee. This is very useful when using very fresh from roast high-end specialty coffees. A long pre-infusion allows those coffees to off-gas CO2 so brew water can reach into the grind for a proper extraction. Beyond that flow control can be used to produce shots similar to manual lever machines and more expensive flow and pressure profiling machines like the LM GS3. The Pro 500 is a PID machine so brew temps are consistent. It's a well built quality machine.
      For automatic machines I like the Gaggia Babila and Accademia and Jura machines with PEP brewing (Pulse Extraction Process). The Gaggia Babila and Accademia have flow control on the coffee spouts which let you decrease the flow rate of brew water through the coffee for a deeper extraction
      Babila: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-babila-one-touch-coffee-and-espresso-machine
      Accademia: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-accademia-espresso-machine
      Jura machines with PEP brewing range from the Jura A1: www.wholelattelove.com/products/jura-a1-piano-black-espresso-machine The A1 has no milk functions - it's pure espresso and coffee. At the high-end is the Jura Giga 6: www.wholelattelove.com/products/jura-giga-6 The A1 and Giga 6 use the same brewing process as all Jura machines with PEP brewing. The difference between the machines are other features unrelated to the quality of espresso. Hope that helps.

    Really like these Jura machines however I've read a lot of reviews which state that the coffee ends up not being hot enough. Are there machines which are hotter than others? Would be really good to see a video comparing temperatures or showing which give you options to make the coffee hotter

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Adam, Thanks for the question. I've used most every super-automatic machine from Jura and Gaggia. They are all relatively close in coffee temperature as it leaves the spouts. Internally, they all brew at 195 - 205F. It cools by 10-20F as it travels from the brew unit in the machine to the spouts. In cup temperatures can be lower still depending on variables like cup type, cup temp and ambient temps. IMO the reviews mentioning lower temps are from those wanting burn the tongue heat in the cup. That said, of all the machines I've used the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige is one of the only ones I turn down from high temp to normal when brewing: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-cadorna-prestige

    I'm between the E8 and the Z8. I've watched all your videos, thank you!! I like the smaller size of the E8. Does it come with the app standard and does the Z8 allow milk temperature adjustment? Otherwise it seems the main difference is that the Z8 automatically adjusts milk type and can make pots of coffee. I like the auto milk adjustment, but don't know when I'd make a pot of coffee since everyone has their own coffee preference.

      Hi ralux, Thanks for the comment and question. The Smart Connect is an optional accessory on both machines and not standard. The Z8 does allow one to adjust milk temperature. Thank you so much for the very thorough comparison! My friend has a Jura and loves it so much. And it's been confusing about which model to invest in.
    My biggest worry is investing in an expensive machine and not having the milk be lukewarm like with the Nespresso milk frother/spinner. I always ended up having to heat the milk up in the microwave to make it warm enough. I like mine extra hot. What is the difference between D6/E6 and E8/S8 in terms of milk temp?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Sandy, You are welcome. Jura sure does have a lot of choices - overwhelming really! Have you had a milk drink from your friend's machine? Was it hot enough for you? Machine manufacturers make machines which output milk froth in the sweet zone of 130-145F. Go hotter than that and apparent sweetness due to heating starts to fall of rapidly. A well trained barista will froth milk in that temperature range as well. That said, I understand some are more about the heat than the sweet. Unfortunately there are no machines which do extra hot automatic frothing. Best advice is to preheat cups and turn up the coffee temp. If still not hot enough microwave is probably the best way to get there. The milk temps out of the models you listed will be more or less the same. The E8/S8 models due have the lever for adjusting the froth type while the D6/E6 is 1 type only. Hope that helps,
      Marc

I started looking at the middle range models after I commented and I’m eyeing the E8 though my husband was like 2000 dollars! 🤣 I love my lattes for work in the morning. Maybe if I made a drink in one of the insulated travel mugs, it would still be warm when I get to work. I have not tried my friend’s Jura but she loves it and says the coffee is delicious and fresh.

      I'm also very concerned about temperature of milk drinks. Over the years I've used three automatic coffee machines in the office and none of them were able to deliver HOT milk coffees (except when I use room temperature milk which isn't recommended and I can only do when I open a new carton of milk). Two of them were high-end Delonghi models and the one I'm currently using is a 4000 Euro WMF office machine with all the bells and whistles like connection to water line, connection to the drain, chocolate drinks, steam for cup warming, etc. I even talked to the technician who comes around every couple of months and he said there's nothing that can be done about the temperature except use room-temperature milk. So disappointing that I have to heat my coffee in the micro wave with a 4000 Euro machine. Also the hot water it dispenses is not hot enough either and it always has a coffee taste.

    Great comparison! My 2 cents as follows: I had purchased the Z6 from Costco, the grinder failed on it within 18 months, averaging no more than 2-3 cups daily usage. Since Costco took it back no problem, I purchased another Jura model from them, the S8, they were no longer selling the Z6 at that time. The S8 was priced the same as the Z6 that I had purchased 18 months earlier. I've been using the S8 for about 2 months now and not had any issues. But I'm worried because the S8 is way lighter duty than the Z6. The S8 has smaller reservoirs, cheaper and thinner plastic, when it flushed the mechanism uses a lot less water. I really hope I'm wrong and that the S8 stand the test of time, but I was pretty disappointed at how the S8 was designed in comparison to the Z6.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi GK, Thanks for sharing your experience. Failure at 18 months is not the norm. I'm at 3 years and 6,000+ brew cycles on my Jura ENA Micro 90 with no issues and get regular reports of >15,000 brew cycles with nothing more than routine maintenance of Jura machines.

      @@Wholelattelovepage that's good to hear. Maybe I just got one with a defective grinder. Costco gets these in and out, different models at different times. For me the cost was the same between the Z6 and S8, but they didn't carry the Z6 at that time. I do prefer the build quality of the Z6 though. I was really meticulous about doing maintenance. I used the filter, but also used filtered water, I only used the dry lavazza beans. I don't hate the S8, as long as it keeps working, I'm good with it. Thanks for your response.

    Hi there! I’ve been binging your videos trying to figure out which fully automatic espresso machine I should invest in. I’m looking at the Jura machines because I like the idea of fewer removable parts because less maintenance means I’m less likely to destroy this expensive thing lol. That being said, what machine do you recommend to someone who is admittedly pretty lazy, drinks 2-3 lattes every day, and wants good coffee at home without having to learn how to be a barista? Thank you!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rachel, So Jura machines do make maintenance easier with no brew group to remove and rinse weekly. Instead you use a cleaning tablet inserted into the pre-ground coffee bypass doser every so many brew cycles. I have a Jura at home and the family does 6-8 drinks a day and that cleaning is requested about 1x a month. If you use an in reservoir water filter as directed by Jura you never have to descale the machine. No other manufacturer has that. I've had the Jura for more than 3 years so I'm well over 6,000 brew cycles with nothing but those monthly cleanings and it brews like the day it was new. If doing milk drinks you'll want to consider how the milk system works on the machine you get. All Jura machines use a pickup tube for the milk. You can simply drop that tube into a container of milk or Jura has accessories for supplying milk ranging from a glass up to a refrigerated countertop unit. While some aspects of Jura maintenance are easier than competing machines if you are doing your lattes spread through the day you may find a machine with an attachable milk carafe might be easier. Most machines with a carafe have self-cleaning which runs some hot water through the frothing components after use leaving the carafe ready to go back in the fridge for use next time. With those caref you generally need to do a deepr cleaning weekly which involves taking the carafe apart. Built up milk residues in any machines frothing components can lead to pour frothing performance and hygiene issues. My favorite machine with a milk carafe is the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige. That's what we use as our daily driver in the studio. It has Jura like capabilites at a lower price point. Learn more about the Cadorna in this video: th-cam.com/video/cXpgP705LB4/w-d-xo.html

      Hi AA, Yes coffee dispenser next to frother produces the same coffee. Just switches routing internally so milk drinks can be made without moving the cup. Hey Marc Thank you for the video comparison very helpful trying to decided between the various models I'm still a little reluctant purchasing a Jura product, a few years back I purchase a Z6 which I was not happy with, the coffee tasted like a warm expresso with warm frothing and the continuum of manual cleaning, has there been any improvement where you have control of the temperature? In reality are these coffee machines or expresso machines? besides all the multitude of specialty drinks?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Michael, Thanks for the questions and you are welcome for the video! In reality these are espresso machines. Internally, super-automatic bean to cup machines like these Juras brew at 195-205F. It cools some as it travels from internal brewing components to your cup. If brewing into a cold, thick walled ceramic cup or similar it will cool even more. Coffee/espresso coming out of the spouts is typically in the upper 180sF. By the time it hits and sits in a cold cup it could be 15F less. For those looking for burn your tongue heat the machines and those from other manufacturers will not get you there. And the reality is they shouldn't. Coffee tasting pros want temps at 150F or less when tasting. If it's too hot it's very hard to perceive flavors.
      In many machines what you're getting when making a "coffee" is technically a "long coffee" which is a more regular (by US expectations) size cup of 5-8oz made using the espresso brewing process. If making those on a regular basis it helps to increase the adjustable grind size on the machine to avoid over-extracting the coffee which may result in bitter flavors. As to temperature, most machines have adjustments of at least 3 temp levels. But if you want it hotter you will need to pre-warm cups and/or stick in microwave for 20 seconds.
      Some newer machines make what I call true Americanos in a one step process. This is espresso with hot water added. The additional hot water does not go through the ground coffee. This avoids over-extraction of the grounds and creates a coffee that many former drip coffee drinkers prefer.
      Americanos are a favorite of mine. I have a couple a day made on the Gaggia Cadorna. The Cadorna is one of the few machines which I actually turn the temp down from high to normal on. If interested check it out in this video: th-cam.com/video/OSTwX8Nquuo/w-d-xo.html The video features the Cadorna Prestige model. There are 2 Cadorna models below it that do Americanos but use less convenient options than an attachable carafe for milk-based espresso beverages.
      A friendly tip... Be careful with that "X" in pronouncing or writing espresso. You could make a barista's head explode. They actually have shirts that say "There's no X in Espresso".

I hatted cleaning the brew group and the water reservoir was tiny and the other issue I had was you could only use a certain size bean and the beans couldn't be oily because the grounds would clog up and not make it into the brew group. Hi JS, Thanks for the question. Most super-automatic machines will heat milk to 130 - 150F (54 - 66C). This is the "sweet" range for milk and the temperature that a well trained barista will heat milk to. Actual in cup temps depend on variables like starting milk temp, ambient temp, cup type and starting cup temp. I understand some people prefer a hotter milk drink at the expense of sweetness. Usual ways to get there are to preheat cups, feed the machine with warmer milk or microwave after making the drink.

    The pricing on these machines is beyond ridiculous. I could understand the lower models being in the 4-800 range the mid models being in the 1-2000 range and the Giga 6 being in the 2500 range but the Giga coming in at 6 grand is a complete rip off. Maybe nice for people that have money to burn. I would gladly pay 3 grand for a giga 6 even though that seems like a lot for a coffee machine due to the extra features but 6 ? no way. I can guarantee that machine costs much less than 1000 to produce. Also adding the touchscreen (which are now cheap these days ) and adding thousands of dollars to a machine is also a huge rip off. When JURA realizes they could probably sell much more volume with fair pricing maybe I will consider them but right now the pricing is not only crazy high its insulting. What's also insulting is paying 3 grand for an S8 and not even getting a freaking blue tooth dongle included.

    I have a question about watery pucks when making an espresso on my Jura X9. I played with the grinds amount and grinder settings but didn't see much improvement. I have the volume set to 50ml. When tried 40ml the pucks were wetter. When making "coffee" (350ml) the pucks are dry.
    If I'm using a manual espresso machine I don't worry about watery pucks much. With the superautomatic machine, I'm worried about wet grinds being stuck in the brew unit and causing issues with taste and maintenance. I should also mention that the brew unit has freshly replaced all the seals and grinders have new burrs. As far as I understand X9 has the same brew unit as the modern Juras.
    Is there any fix to this? Or should I just not worry about it?

      Hi JR, Brew units are fairly similar between machines. I would not worry about the wetter pucks. I see them all the time from Jura machines and other manufacturers. They are built to clean it out soupy or not.

    • @coffeetechph
      @coffeetechph 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Johnes Ruml. Wet pucks is not natural for Jura. You better clean the drainage valve, and clean or replace a drain motor.
      Because the excess water to making coffee, is going thru into the brewer instead of going into the drainage valve. Maybe your drainage valve is blocked or clogged. Or your drain motor who push the drainage valve is stacked up.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey GC, Thanks for the question. Quick answer... a for sure YES compared to Starbucks. At local coffee house it depends on skills of the staff. IMO Starbucks is hit or miss quality wise. The vast majority of their locations use super-automatic machines for the espresso in a latte. Same process as in the Z8. After that it's all about the barista's skill in frothing the milk. Similar situation in local coffee house. I've been to some that are very passionate and have highly trained staff and others that seriously lack training. What the Z8 gets you beyond convenience and a much lower cost per beverage is the ability to dial in your drink including espresso and milk volumes, temperatures, grind size and froth quality. That means you can have it just how you like it and with very consistent results - no hit and miss! Can you make a comparison between ENA 8 and E8 which is better for home use

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mohammed, before the ENA 8 I had an E8 at home, so I can certainly compare. In my opinion, the ENA 8 wins in looks and style over the E8. I like being able to customize all parameters of drinks with a press-and-hold (vs. having to go into the menu in the E8). I also prefer the grouping of espresso/milk/hot water spouts on the ENA 8 because I never have to move my cup when preparing any drinks. The ENA 8 is also slightly smaller, which I prefer since I'm limited on counter space.
      The E8 wins in capacity - not only a larger water tank, bean hopper, and dreg drawer, but the dual spouts give you the option for two espresso drinks at once (by double-pressing espresso/ristretto/coffee). If you're making a high volume of drinks at home, the E8 may be the best choice. I also like that the E8 gives you two options for milk foam, instead of just the one on the ENA 8.
      Overall, they both have their advantages and which is "better" depends largely on your living and drinking circumstances.
      AJ

    Hello I'm hoping someone can help me answer a question I have about when I make espresso on my semi automatic machine. My machine came with two filter baskets a single and a double. When I should be making a cappuccino, for example, should I be using the single filter basket, and then pour espresso from both spouts into one cup? is that a double shot? or should I be using the double filter basket and using only one spout from my portafilter, or should I be using both spouts from the double filter basket into one cup or two cups? I hope that makes sense, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi tgD, Very few people pull single shots. In most cafes baristas making drinks which call for a single will make a double and let one spout drip to the tray if they don't need to make two drinks calling for a single. In your case it depends on what type of cappuccino you want. A traditional Italian cappuccino use a single shot. Most shops in the US use a double shot for a cappuccino (some call it a Northwest cappuccino). If you want a double in yours use the double shot filter basket. Single or double spout portafilter makes no difference but most use a double spout and drip into a single cup.

      There is a place for all of these machines. I think the Jura super automatics are great for the office when you want a decent cup of coffee instead of the usual K-Cup swill you find in the workplace. A nice dual boiler semi automatic is great for home. Since I work out of a home office I have both. When I'm working I don't have time to labor over making coffee. I want to be able to push a button and have the machine do ALL of the work. When I'm not working is when I have time to spend in the home coffee bar at a E61 dual boiler machine and conical burr grinder. Some people flock to the super automatics because they simply want a decent cup of coffee and don't want to be bothered with all of the technical details. Nothing wrong with that.
