  • In this video I replace the N/S/F (left front) ABS/wheel speed sensor. The ABS, traction control and brake warning lights had illuminated and it was indicated that the tyre pressure warning system was disabled.
I carried out a diagnostic check with Carista which gave the following fault codes:
    Traction/stability control
    5D96 - Manufacturer specific code
5D91 - Left front wheel speed sensor : Extrapolation
In a previous video I replaced the O/S/R (rear right) ABS/wheel speed sensor for the following codes:
    Traction/Stability Control
    5D36 - Manufacturer specific code
5DC1 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor : Extrapolation
    See below link for video:

Hello, thanks for this, as usual, clear and lean tutorial. I have a question about the diagnostic device you use, Carista : is it also compatible with the Smart? Do you have a preferred place where I could get it please?

Unfortunately Carista does not seem to work with Smart. It is very good for Volkswagen group and as you’ve seen, BMW. I’ve had it a while and genuinely can’t remember where I bought it. Their support is pretty good too. No replacement for high end universal or manufacturers specific diagnostic equipment but useful day to day.
