I was there as well camping above turn 5 with my then girlfriend. First time for world GP and Laguna track had been modified to make it just long enough to qualify and bring Europeans to America. Sidecars were a blast to watch as our US teams couldn't match the Euro units with the streamlined body work and engines.
I was there, I started watching the main outside of turn 4, then hiked up to the Cork Screw, then proceeded to outside of turn 9, This must be qualifying, because if my memory serves me correctly, Wayne Rainey led the race to the finish.
