    awesome pdt walkthru! may i ask how do you remove the spool for maintenance; like oiling the spool bearings? the spool has an additional cover which got tiny screws on it...

    I’m excited to get mine. From pictures it looks like the long handle and power knobs are going to be a great addition to the reel. Had a previous Calcutta 201 and it was amazing. Looking forward to this one

    Thanks - 300 or 400, deep water fluking meaning 50-80 feet. The 300 is small, probably just me being used to bigger real sizes like the Calcutta 400 or older conquest 300 (2005 version). It seems both have same data, just size differences. Appreciate your feedback. Even 200yards of 20lb PP is a lot and the 300 will take that.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 400 is very small in hand compared to an older Calcutta and both the 300 and 400 have the same diameter palming aside plate, the extra capacity comes from the spool width so I would go with the 400.

      @@JPDeRoseOutdoors Another question - is there a place to thread the braid on the spool of the 300, if you recall? I cannot see through the s3d spool, but you did a video on the 300 a few years back and it was able to be threaded. Thanks in advance

    Dual braking system. Lower profile. Synchronized. Infinity drive. Gomexus handle included and some more gimmicks. I need it 🤫

  • @wardman7655
    @wardman7655 ปีที่แล้ว

    Spooling braid - the new 300 has a indent in it, the manual says to tie your braid, then put the knot in that indent. It does not pass through. I've just gotten 300yd of a premium Japanese braid on the spool, 30lb (Ocean Devil). Thx!

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just use a piece of tape onto the spool over the knot I tie

    I think I might be able to put back $100 or so a month for the next yr or so and get a 400, and mount it on a Diawa Tatula around 7' or so...talk about sweet.

    How does the line guide affect the casting distance if the spool is having to also power the gear to the line guide?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It actually improved the distance from what I can tell by reducing friction of the line on the line guide when going back and forth across the spool. It’s an amazing casting reel!

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors

      Tech wise yes but often times they bring different gear ratios over here and in some cases not all of the options the JDM market bears

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Start with half out and see how it casts. So that would be 4. Reduce from there if control is good and you need more distance

    Would this be too big a real to be paired with a Triza Dragoon? I think it's rated to around 3oz. To be honest I'm more of a bass crank bait guy but wanted to start trying out swimbaits a little. I have an older (much older) JDM Antares but want to leave that on my dedicated cranking rod. Some have suggested the 301 would be too heavy or throw off the balance of the rod.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They brought this reel to the North American market targeting the big Swimbait guys but I have even used it to throw a Frog. Yes, they are heavier than low profile reels but the balance of the rod isn’t really hurt by a heavier reel, especially since the weight sits at the bottom of the combo. I would even throw a big deep crank that pulls hard on this reel. You would never even feel the resistance and they cast like a dream!

    Hi,
    What would you recommend lonh handle or the regular handle?
    Thank you!

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most anglers throwing big baits prefer the leverage with the longer handle. That is why Shimano North Amercia on brought in the Long handle versions. I’m other areas of the world they sell both or only the shorter handle option.

    I wanna know the thinking behind the SLX A DC. Why not just bring over the XT DC? I don't understand why dc is needed for a 70 sized reel either. On the curado 200 dc they should've added mgl III spool and idc5.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      XT is SVS Infinity cast control and is not the same as DC cast control. Outside of having a brass gear in XT there is no difference and DC has the same iDC 4 controller as Curado 150/200. I haven’t seen a 70 size DC reel as of yet and the price point is why they used the iDC4 on Curado 200. Everyone wants things to stay the same or be less expensive. Oh yeah, can’t have MGL spool in DC reels because you can’t place the coils in the MGL spool as it’s too thin. MGL spool is a light weight spool for low start up inertia, that is not how DC works.

    • @TrueWord66
      @TrueWord66 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JPDeRoseOutdoors I know Shimano usa and japan are different but that's why I said to bring over the slx dc xt. What I was talking about is the release of the slx dc. This is just being redundant to have two slx dc at least overseas. The slx dc xt has those features I mentioned, idc5 and mgl III. I don't understand why it's needed when a 70 sized reel doesn't hold much line either anyways. Mgl III is also in the new Antares dc md. I'm not sure about the prevalence of people buying their gear overseas but I'd guesstimate there's more and more doing it now.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely think there are quite a few anglers focused on JDM but for what I do I have only kept my eyes on what’s available to the North American market as that is how I can best support my sponsors. The JDM market and its consumers is vastly different than the masses in North America in a number of ways. The techniques, the braid versus fluoro usage, the cover in the fisheries all are decision makers when a product team decides what products will work for the sales in their region.

    Hey man nice video as always, got yourself a new subscriber though been watching your videos for a while. Quick question, I intended to use this reel for surf fishing with a 10'6" inch rod primarily to throw 3/4 oz to 1.5 oz minnows , topwater pencils and shore jigging upto 2oz jigs as that iswhat my rod is rated for , do you this reel is good for my purpose or should I get 23 antares dc md instead?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go with the Calcutta Conquest MD for the extra line capacity. The SVS MD Tune is also very adjustable to dial in what you will be using. I know that DC is a more efficient system but I would really want the line capacity of the Calcutta 400
