I splurged and ordeted this reel. Its very smooth, casts effortlessly, and feels solid. I did noticed the weight difference but its so easy to cast its easier to cast all day than my ark bfs reel. Pitching is super easy, really enjoy this reel. Using a Cashion UL and loving the combo.
It's pretty much my preference for the lighter side as the Ark handles lighter lure better. But if ur gonna be doing 2 to 4 grams... That Conquest is pretty smooth
A yard or so. Never long. My guides are not small Enough to get impacted. But fg knot is the best for those who need it. I use the Albright knot with no problems usually
Bought one of these after trying 2 of the top rated alliexpress reels and couldn't be happier with it for tossing Sierra slammers in high alpine lakes and streams. It honestly will SAVE money as my other Calcuttas have easily lasted decades and still perform perfect.
Glad u are enjoying it. I sold my Aldebaran 22 to get this guy. Both have similar quirks that doesn't make it a perfect reel, but u are right! Nice test man! So I am assuming in stocked combo the Calcutta will mainly be in the 1/16-1/4 range and higher for heavier lures? I am thinking it due to how heavy the spool is? I don’t think it will do well under a gram without aftermarket spool. Other than that if it bombs in the 1/16-1/4 area I’ll be happy with it in stocked combo. Do you think the Calcutta will be okay during trout season without any modifications?
This size 28mm spool is indeed a bit heavy. While Shimano advertised it being able it do 1 gram, you have to limit the line. But 1.3 grams and up is great. As usual, for 28mm spools, u will not get great distance. It's more about having the spool light as well as dispense less line, making it easier to control and prevent over spooling. So that said, your range is fine. But for 7 grams, you can have some far distance with larger bfs spools. I think it's perfectly fine for trout fishing in streams
