Great video. I live in Rochester so very familiar of many of the trials. It is a great area for biking, road and off road. I used to live on the west side of the city and could commute to my work 15 miles away all via the Erie Canal trail. Again, very good video. Thanks for sharing.
Good old zoo loop. Your route is usually covered every other Monday night with the just for giggles crew. The biggest ride this year was 60 riders. Next time your in town during the week meet at 3heads brewery on Monday nights 530 for a great ride.
I lived on the west side of Rochester for a number of years and used to do a loop with the Erie Canal trail down to Genesee Valley Park, Riverway trail north all the way to the lake, and trails along the Lake Ontario State Parkway and Route 390. Except for a block of Ridge Road (which really just had one crossing of a highway offramp), a few blocks from there down to pick up the canal near Lyell, and a few locks in the city it was all on dedicated trails, and would work out to between 25 and 30 miles I think. On a lot of the southern part there are trails on both sides with several crossings, especially around the University of Rochester, so you can hop back and forth to try different options. Middle Falls was also an interesting section - you can go down the gorge and back up through Maplewood Park instead of staying at street level, but if you started too late in the day RG&E would close the gates where the trail goes over the dam for the night... then right back up the hill and around the long way. I don't recognize the first brewery (looks like you were walking out on Marshall Street maybe?) but I've been to Swiftwater several times.
Thanks for sharing. This inspired me to take a similar route today and it was just really cool. The high falls gate opens at 9 so unfortunately we missed that but the Genny Valley trial, Roc Runners trail, and El Camino were really cool. That runners trail is really easy to miss btw.
A very Rochester ride! Thanks for the video, big memories of going all the way out the Charlotte pier and cruising around the river. Hope you had a white hot dog while in town!
Cool video, nice route up to the lake and back. I did once a quite a while ago looping on the river since there's a path on each side (more or less). Switfwater is one of my all time favorite breweries!
You're pretty close to my stomping grounds here. Note the High Falls on my profile picture. So many of the shots were like "oh yeah, that's where I used to run a cub scout club for city kids" or "that's where my oldest son did his Eagle project" or "I've biked there with my younger son for his bike merit badge"... one that was not scout related -- that's where the church stopped me in my low speed electric buggy on the bridge and tried to strong arm me into buying bottled water from them. Come back. See the Eastman House. Eat a plate.
I like to watch videos with outsiders perspectives on my home trail and roads too. I have done the Eastman House but I definitely want to again. I can't get enough of that kind of thing. We all really love Rochester - I believe this was my thirds time there.
Rochester is an interesting town, definitely would like to get there at some point. I got a little glimpse of it on my Erie Canal ride. Thanks for giving a little overview of the trails there. 👍
Yes - the Erie Canal hit the southern side - definitely worth detouring into the city center if you have time. The Auburn Trail is a good connector - that is how we got back after doing the Erie Canal and south through the Lakes.
When you crossed the bridge over the river, from the other side of the bridge you can see Low Falls, which are prettier, though not as tall, as High Falls.
Great video. Looks like a really fun ride! Mixed terrain my favorite! Honestly after riding in the PNW for over 10 years I kinda like riding in the rain. It reminds me of being a kid and just not giving a flip, just go adventure.
The first time I went to Rochester I made sure to drive by. From the bike path I wasn’t 100% sure. Tried to keep my camera nerdery down a bit for my friends’ sake on this trip…. But I’m a Kodak guy give my Tri-X over HP5 any day of the week! …and Ektar is the best C41 film ever made.
Very interested to see this as we are heading to New York next month. Starting out at the Falls on the Canadian side then taking a few days to work our way through the cities along the Erie Canal Trail (including Rochester) and hopefully end up in Albany. Cool video.
Thanks! We went to Albany last year and really enjoyed it. I also like Buffalo a lot too. The Erie Canal is very cool and gets even better past Rochester.
This just came across my feed, as did your channel! Rochester local since birth, you hit many of my favorite trails!Swiftwater has been around for years and the food and beers are always good, wise choice there! Reach out next time you visit, happy to suggest some more great gravel rides!
Rochester looks great. I don't think I have missed the bike setup vids yet. I am interested in Brad's bars. I like the amount of flat space they appear to have for attaching bags. I have to ask what was up with the matching t-shirts? Sponsor?
Dang it - we just talked about how I can never remember the name of them in the last stream and here I forgot again! I’ll ask him and let you know. The shirt thing is hilarious- Ben and Erin both had it on then we met Brad and he was wearing it too! Our friend owns the coffee shop and it is a newer shirt - but still a coincidence!
Its an amazing story. The company that brought back the instant film, The Impossible Project, did so well they were able to buy the Polaroid trademark.
The Impossible Project bought that factory and Polaroid said they could attempt to make the film but that they would not help them. It all had to be reformulated. There were whole mines and chemical processes that were stopped when Polaroid quit making the film.
@@TimFitzwater Yup. It was a unique process , and they manufactured all of the components needed Incredible to see the machines take raw material and spit out a packaged pack of film
I was just thinking I wish I knew how to make a map. I usually just wing it. Which isn't good. I get lost often. But you said Strava and Strava "heat maps" which I never hear of. I better look heat map up. Thanks. Good ride. Great overlook.

I've really enjoyed the area - this was the best time yet!
Cheers!

I love all the parks and trails in Rochester. There's a big biking community here. Glad you had an enjoyable ride!
Haven't had the chance to meet anyone or explore the scene but I've loved all of my trips there.
Oh - is it legit to ride the way we did on the way back?

Nice.
That first spot was pretty new it looked like.
Hi Tim, and same to your riding crew. Looks like the weather wasn't great, hopefully you guy's had a awesome time anyways.
Hey! I will take it for this one day over when we had to camp and ride with the loaded bikes. All in all it was good.
Thanks for sharing. This inspired me to take a similar route today and it was just really cool. The high falls gate opens at 9 so unfortunately we missed that but the Genny Valley trial, Roc Runners trail, and El Camino were really cool. That runners trail is really easy to miss btw.

Hi, enjoyed the Rochester routes. I will make a day of it thanks for the enjoyable Vid.

watching from Philippines. nice narration and love the trails in your place. ride safe. 💯
Thanks - Cheers!
Our local group, Just for Giggles, ride that route frequently on the Monday night gravel ride.
Its awesome!

Looks like a good ride in spite of the rain.
It was very cool - glad we didn't bail on it.

When I travel I try to keep that mentality - and I have had some really fun rides getting caught in the rain.
Beautiful area
You are correct. That is Kodak Park. Signed, former Kodak employee. 😉

There are so many trails and parks here. Thank you for promoting Rochester.

Yup
I will go to any trail that is near water.

What handle bar are you using? Nice video, nice ride!!

Velo Orange Granola Bars - love them.
@@TimFitzwater Thank you!
Thanks Tim...Polaroid is sort of coming back as well , I worked there in a previous existence .
Its an amazing story. The company that brought back the instant film, The Impossible Project, did so well they were able to buy the Polaroid trademark.
@@TimFitzwater Outstanding. The last place I knew they made film was Endchede in Holland
AND .. they were the biggest battery manufacturers in the world for a while , each pack had its own. That was a very toxic process

Strava and its route creation tools are based on heat maps which is nice because it is where people are actually riding.
@@TimFitzwater ohhh heat maps! Got you. Ok! Looking at it now. Appreciate that! Very helpful.
Hi. What are the bars on your Gunnar? I like the sweep angle. Thanks
They are the Velo Orange Granola Bars. I love them for touring and for mountain biking.
It's nice to have some rocky-rooty stuff, to enliven trails.
No body hikes this so shred it bro
😎
Strava Heatmaps let you find so many little gems for trails and roads that you wouldn't consider. I use it for all my route planning.
Erin and I tend to use Strava- Ben uses Ride w/ GPS. In a quick pinch I will use the "take me to" feature on the Wahoo.
Are you riding e-bikes?
no
If a trail is wet and not a hard surface you really should not ride it when wet.
Did you pay any attention to this video? Jeez.
@@TimFitzwater
Enjoy your day.
Wow Rochester, New York: The Big Radish!
No radish emoji on this Mac!😢
