This is simply the best video on all of TH-cam. Best version of an outstanding song. The graphics, clothes, the expressions, the energy - everything… just perfect.
The 12" version...oh my! Heard it (and Paris Angels) for the first time when browsing in a London record shop and they were playing a white label of it, I went and asked what it was. Probably just over a month before it came out.
@@summerteeeth It got played to death at Manchester International, usually accompanied by Primal Scream's 'I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have' (as this was just before 'Loaded'). Combine that and the liquid light show and it was a heady mix indeed.
Only single I bought by them. Just loved it so much nothing could compete. Loved the synths and the sound of the backing vocals that lifted this above most of the other songs of the period
Oh and by the way, can we talk about how this is the definitive version of this song? While the Loved Up mix is pretty awesome, this one is just pure northern disco jangle pop. Defines an era
Saw them at the Duchess in Leeds so many years ago, this tune reminds me of lost loves and happier times. Thanks for this tune guys, forever in my heart.
God i remember this, have two good friends in this band, Waggs on guitar and Big Simon on the drums. Those where the Days Good times. Thanks for posting.....
It,s a fantastic song from a band that should have been massive. A manchester band could only have written this song, sums up the scene perfectly/ Cheers
Saw them at the Subterania in Ladbroke Grove, London, in about April 1990, before this was released. They brought a huge travelling support with them from the North and took the place apart! Gave the crowd of poseurs in there a shake.
Brilliant live. Saw them with Northside at the Hacienda 4.2.91 -brilliant gig, WHAT A FUCKING SONG THIS WAS! Its like rockinghorse shit trying to get it on CD - someone burn us a copy!!! Total injustice they never made it - your right mate. LOL Cheetham Hill Blue xxx
@diane6166 Fantastic tune and fantastic days at the Birch Cellar Bar how time flies away.... Love t Jane and kids and the GBF!!! Remember taping the Angels and making compilations for em before they got signed!! Wonder how you all are ????
Just bought the 4 CD set "Come Together: Adventures on the indie dancefloor" and know a lot of the tracks from the era. I knew of the Paris Angels, but had never actually heard them. The 12" version on the CD has been pumping on my system constantly for the last 3 days (along with being shared with many friends). Brilliant song.
perfume is my very own personal anthem..what a trip of a night it was when me n a few of the lads went to one of there gigs at the leeds warehouse...a`
not a family member looking at comments...but I fooking love this song...love listening to this song...just reminds me of the early 90s Cheers guys for bringing this song in to my lifexxxxx Sladey
17 years since I first heard this, loved it then and still fuckin love it now. Ageless! Happy Daze people, if you don't own it, buy it, will bring the brilliance of the early nineties to life! Man I miss it.
I live in the area where acid was first produced out of sheer earth as a by-product of wheat. Who would then have thought that it withholded such beauty? Thanks Madchester!!! Forever!!!
i was on holiday kirstyarohanui im from mcr myself and ive seen most of the so called madchester bands live including northside brings back good memories.
I remember going to The Leadmill night club in Sheffield with my brother, walking in and they were on stage playing this, talk about magic moment...........had no idea they were playing
This was the first track on the 1990 CD version (which I think it only appeared on). It is listed as just ''Perfume''. Shame that the ''Loved Up'' and ''All On You'' versions were more well known, as this was better. If you have trouble finding it (or any other Paris Angels songs), give us a buzz and I'll send you them.
Several years behind with this reply, but worth a try... Do you have an mp3 of this? Can't seen to find this particular version anywhere and I'd like to stick it in a DJ set. Cheers!
Brilliant song this. Waggy ended up in the mondays after the paris angels.Does anyone remember the baggy nights at the MEN in the mid noughties with the mondays, Stereo MCs and the Farm? Great. Missed the gig a couple years back when paris angels played in the ruby lounge. Any uploads anyone
RIP Simon. A weird thing happened during Italia 90. I used to listen to John Peel while watching the games on TV and at least twice while this was on England scored, I kid you not!
Happy Birthday my little brother, who sent me this song in the early 90s.....What is the significance of the sunflower seed? I am not blaming anyone (as the lyrics suggest we all do), but I do vividly remember when I put this tape in the Blaupunkt of the SAAB 900 Turbo on my way from Boston to Stow Vermont for a weekend ski trip (with the skis on the roof). I thought, "Paris Angels, who needs Paris, been there, done that, it's a very dirty town ridden with petty crime" but I listened to this song and the rest of the set and thought....."these are great tunes for driving, doing, being", I did get a ticket on that trip, it was a speed trap, of course I'm not blaming anyone, it was my fault, "we're going stupid" as the lyrics say. None the less, Happy Birthday Andrew, of the Didj DingoDidj and a master of the rhythm.
Saw these at Duchess in Leeds around 1990. Great gig except the bit when the singer threw his mouth keyboard thingy into the crowd & it hit me between my fucking eyes. I was tripping like fuck at the time the bastard. I kept it for years in case they went massive..They didn't. Top band though & thanks for posting.
i know ricky. i used to drink in guide bridge. we used to see him all the time. he used to drink with us. i didnt even know he was in this band till months later. ricky seems just a normal lad who enjoys his beer.
To those below - tell yer uncle that his basslines were ace and he played in a really cool band. Strangetown 22 if that is yer ma tell her she's gorgeous and she still has fans all over the world. I still play that 12" extended version regularly. What happened to the other singer though?
Anyone know where you can find this now? I tried i tunes and torrents..I have it on 12inch but its scratched to hell, i also had the loved up version on CDS but I left it my girlfriends..we split up a few days later and I never got it back!, that was back in 91! you can keep all this nu rave shit, kids today never had the music and times of 88-91!
This has so much more energy and fun than the "official" video. Great song .
They are both official videos? This version is always the one I think of, though.
This is simply the best video on all of TH-cam. Best version of an outstanding song. The graphics, clothes, the expressions, the energy - everything… just perfect.
clothes? jeans and t shirts
this is my cousin jayne on the tambourine and backing vocals x
How is she
The backing vocals make this song
Paris Angels answer to Bez from the Happy Mondays !!
@@xenobite7264 she is doing good thank you x
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Everybody had this tune on 12 inch . One of the true Manchester classics
A university klassik 4me.Up dancing lika dervish.

😂I'm from the Scottish borders and I'm pretty sure I still have this on vinyl somewhere in the cupboard.
Absolute peach of a tune ❤
The whole indie dance/baggy scene, was superb to be around at that time.
Only single I bought by them. Just loved it so much nothing could compete. Loved the synths and the sound of the backing vocals that lifted this above most of the other songs of the period

Pure genius. I remember hearing this in a club and trying to work out what the song was for weeks. The opening guitar riff still gives me shivers.
Same here Sean
same here mate
It's absolutely immense
Thank you Spotify. You knew I would love it!
Best days of my life
That's my amazing mate Wags who went on to be in Black Grape and Happy Mondays for a while (amongst other bands).
I think that this song alone is better than anything else to come out of the "madchester" era.
It,s a fantastic song from a band that should have been massive. A manchester band could only have written this song, sums up the scene perfectly/ Cheers
Such an under-rated band. I saw them at the Norwich Waterfront back in 1992 (I think), got backstage and the band signed my T-shirt! Happy days!
You think?😂😂
You definitely had a good night pal. ❤
Great memories. All E'd up and absolutely loving it.
Awsome....I just missed this scene being born in '81 (and growing up in Essex!). Still, caught up with it at uni and reminds me of those days! :)
Saw them at the Subterania in Ladbroke Grove, London, in about April 1990, before this was released. They brought a huge travelling support with them from the North and took the place apart! Gave the crowd of poseurs in there a shake.
They made SUCH great music . I'd love it if their records were made available again . A really special band .
Was the support band when they played Hull Tower 92/93,.. kin belter !

Reminds me of the good ole days when I spent every weekend down the Pink Toothbrush. Miss those days.
I did that a few times also. Happy days...!

As much as I love all the early 90s indie music, this song is one of the very few still regularly on the playlists over 25 years later..
Top Band
Still one of my favourite albums from start to finish
Wonderfully constructed, beautiful song.
too many good memories, i love it, i loved the baggy era!

a great time for musc and this song just stood out at the time and still does, the guita riff at the beginning is magical.
17 years since I first heard this, loved it then and still fuckin love it now. Ageless! Happy Daze people, if you don't own it, buy it, will bring the brilliance of the early nineties to life! Man I miss it.

Cracking track, and they had a few.😊😊❤
Great blast from the past... it's all coming back... brilliant
I live in the area where acid was first produced out of sheer earth as a by-product of wheat. Who would then have thought that it withholded such beauty? Thanks Madchester!!! Forever!!!

1st time to hear this - a hidden gem excellent tune.

Brilliant band... The times I had with this..... Still sounds brilliant.
Just danced like a loon to this , miss the old days
Absolute stone cold banger, the remix is equally as good
If you only had 5 min to explain the madchester era to your kid, you would play them this song.
Beautiful song, beautiful video!
I think such a group would not be possible nowadays: in a sense they had this talent
