A friend is buying a house with a vintage bathroom and the tub seems to have this problem. Of course it is on a slab and vintage tile floor where the access is to the plumbing for the tub and the drum trap. About how much would a job like you did in this video cost???? Thanks!

I had a clogged tub drain that wouldn't unclog no matter what I tried. Plunger, lots of chemicals. (Sorry to all you dead fish out there). So I did the opposite of plunging- I blocked all available openings (Overflow, etc. ) , then used my cheap little Stinger wet vac and put the hose inside the drain. Worked great, sucked out LOTS of foul, nasty sludge, along with any water. Problem solved. That time.

I live in an old house with a drum trap directly under the bathtub drain and been doing that for the last 40 years. My wet-vac hose is just the right size to slide into the tub drain and make a nice tight seal and it takes no more than 2 minutes to completely clean out the drum trap. I vacuum out the water, add some water 2 more times and vacuum it out twice more just to be sure and I don't even bother to block off the overflow anymore. And forget snaking it as that won't do any good with a drum trap. Even though my other drains have modern PVC traps installed the drum tramp is the easiest for me to service by far. The only reason people are complaining about these things is that they don't realize just how simple the maintenance really is. Depending on how much hair goes down the drain once a year is plenty to keep everything flowing at my house.

That is such a relief when it all works out lol . I also love the shop vac method.

The clean out is on the top of the drum trap. Just remove the cover on top of the drum trap and snake it out.

As last resort yes . Sometime they are so old when you go to twist , the trap tends to pill when trying to Unscrew.this case , another company already was there before me and ran a cable making the trap leak under slab .

Are you in NJ........I need you to unclog my Tub drain. Auger head (snake) is to big and won't fit past my drain.

I am duplicating my reply to you that I just gave to another guy.....
