Beard meets Food rarely fails food challenges, but when he does it is usually pancakes. I think he has now failed 3 pancake challenges in a row. Pancakes are his kryptonite!

They screw him by giving him way more because they know who he is, but also pancake challenges are really tough because they dry your mouth out a lot and then expand a ton in your stomach when you drink anything.

Not enough syrup in the world for him to complete a pancake challenge.

Beard often talks about his calorie management in his videos. He skips meals for days depending on what he eats. If he eats a 15k calorie meal, he may not eat at all the following day. You’ll hear him say in several videos, “I haven’t ate in 2 days” or “my last meal was (blank) days ago”. He has really solid discipline.

But Beard has the best personality and I love his condensed format with him narrating rather than watching a full 20-30 min challenge. The rate his videos rack up views in the 100K's within hours of dropping is a credit too him. I also enjoy the podcast with him and Josh - cant believe that only has 20k subs!!

James explains it to be so simple and it really is that easy. I’m in my 40s and lost 70 lbs 12 years ago and have remained the same. All that matters is at the end of the week did my calories average my maintenance. I keep a spreadsheet and eat lower during week and Friday and Saturday we go out and I eat and drink whatever I want as long as the average is where it needs to be. It kills me to see people eliminating foods they love and being so difficult .

After tracking everything you eat for about a month or two and weighing it on a scale, then evaluating your weight change every week based on your calories in/out, you get a very good handle on the amount of calories any food volume can have. After awhile you can just look at a donut or a slice of pizza and be like: "yep, that's 300-400 right there!"
I would also suggest wearing a simple fitness smartwatch like a fitbit to give you a sense of your daily caloric expenditure for about a month or two while tracking. They may not be 100% accurate, but they give you a good ballpark for your weekly calorie budget.

It is easier to fast a few days than eat deficit. Also deficit eating may lead to "starvation mode" instead of autophagy. In fasting mode (autophagy) your metabolism actually increases.
Further, glycemic index of the food you are eating is a factor as well. BIG one infact. Also the nutrient density (read meat is best) plays a HUGE factor for overall health.
So it's a bit more nuanced.

Becoming a fan of this channel fast. A topic which might be harder to grasp is awareness of your body weight or gaining fat and how it feels, when it happens from day to day.
Fat(cells) in itself as part of the body feels/ling just like senseless mass. Do they have pain receptors? That feeling of gining those "packages" all over your body is unpleasant.
So i wonder how many people are good with that. Is there a lag of body awareness?
Another thing which learned trough meditation in relation to loosing weight is:
    - normally you experience hunger like other sensory stimulus as a part of yourself
    - through meditation your self-image changes. Now (sensory)stimuli are something which appears/comes to consciousness.
    - normally you "let them in" an they will be a part of yourself. But you don't have to. You just can look at them while they "standing at the door".
    - In particular you can do this with hunger too to a certain degree. Experience hunger as something which is not part of yourself instead of something which knocks on the door, wants in and a part of yourself(construction). Let the hunger there at the door and watch him as " something from the outside".
    - The experience of hunger changes then.

And if you exercise like cycling or running you can soon start losing weight or at least stick to a target weight.

I lost 20-25kg in 5 months by eating fast food and chocolate most of the time. Not healthy, wouldn't do that again, but there were days in which I sacrificed a meal of normal food just for the sake of chocolate, because I can't stop eating chocolate, so I had to do that in order to stick to my deficit. If I ate the food, I couldn't have helped myself from eating the chocolate too which would've nullified the deficit. Everything boils down to the amount of calories you eat, certain diets might make it harder to eat too many calories, but this stuff about insulin, sugar is just bullshit and the notion that less calories than you need, no matter where they're from, won't lead to weight loss is stupid.

@mayank.gaurav that's unlikely, I crave chocolate because I like how it tastes, anyway there's more foods I crave for the taste. Probably because I'm deficient in serotonin, ay? I think that people should adopt a diet that fits their goals rather than a "perfect" one. We all grew up with chocolate, chips, sweet drinks, fast foods and there's never gonna be a time when we can quit for good. Not without mentally torturing ourselves, some people don't care about food so much, it's fine but I for one like food a lot. It's not some defficiency, it's the mere memory of having eaten something that that I've enjoyed that makes me want more.

Didn't like you when I was over 120Kg, I have no idea why. Denial perhaps? Over the last few days I've been watching a lot of your videos... I'm now about to go below 90Kg (with still some way to go but look forward to hitting my goal weight) and literally everything you say is bang on and aligns with what I have been discovering over the last few months. A very valuable subscription indeed - big newbie fan here!

I want to know how on earth Adam calculates the calories in the challenges he does - especially the ones where they increase his size just to try and catch him out. I also remember him saying he fasts a lot - like 24hrs prior to a challenge and probably after.

If you ate 10K calories in one sitting i wonder how much you would actually be able to absorb, like surely a good percentage just comes straight out the other end unprocessed. That's a rough mental image.

That’s funny cause I look at calorie counting like budgeting with money lol. Calories are currency and you have only x amount to spend each day so chose wisely. I been intermittent fasting and eating 1700-2000 cals per day losing 2-3lbs per week while trying to hold onto as much muscle as I can . I did no carb diet before and didn’t count calories and also lost weight like that but that diet is not sustainable. I eat carbs with my low cal and it’s very easy to do I don’t feel like I’m on a diet .

    • @plamenistia
      @plamenistia 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

This is exactly what helped me. I approached food like money. You have a certain budget per week and you try to stick to it if you want to progress, both in weight gain and loss. Well said.

Firstly what is a calorie? The amount of energy present in the food. If you dried the food and set it on fire then if it burns to ash/ carbon then all calories burned. Agree?
If you agree with this then what is a stool? If you dried that can you burn it? If the answer is yes then how many calories is ejected out of the back door?
The body can only hold so much food at any one given time, it can only process a certain quantity too. Adam however overloads his system therefore i would have a guess and say he takes one enormous poop and gets shot of quite a large quantity of calories.
Therefore all this math makes little to no sense.
Think of your body like a car engine. Feed the engine a full tank of gas and drive it around when it stops the engine cools and then you’re now able to maintain the engine. Or you could feed the engine 1 litre of fuel and drive about on it for 10 mins then once it starts to cool down add another litre and continue this method all day, this engine never stops and cools down so when exactly are you going to do the maintenance on it? So as unhealthy as Adam’s food consumption is if it was scaled back i bet it would be considerably better for you rather than eating 6+ mini meals a day.

in 2019 i cut 70lbs in 6months while still eating fast food, througout the week. also hitting places like chilli's and chinese buffets during the weekend. i ran twice a day for an average of 6 miles total and spent around 45mins daily lifting weight. you can definetly eat shitty food and lose weight. just have to burn more calories than you put in

I’ve seen some pro eaters discuss how they do it. First off most of them say they don’t eat anything for 36-48 hours before a challenge. That’s how they pound the food so effortlessly. So that’s anywhere from 4-6000 calories you can throw on top of the calories you need to bank. And they all hit the gym every day, stay very active and eat in a decent deficit for their non challenge days when they actually eat.

Also, I guess you don't realize that just because they may only upload one video per week, doesn't mean they're only doing one challenge per week. Lots do multiple a week and then upload on a schedule.
Like I said, you're delusional if you think they're just counting calories and working out to stay lean.
