Gorman is an incredible bass player, but Matthew was a star. Timeless style and sound. People still reference him in 2020. It's too bad he never reached his full potential.
I like TV too so I agree with them. I’m a lazy Sod! Can’t even make babies! I Just eat my bag of Doritos and relax on the couch with my Remote Control and Pizza 🍕 and Beer! Those are a few of my favorite things! 😮😊
Another band from the soundtrack of my life. They were around from when I was in 8th grade or so until junior year in HS but found out about them summer between 9th and 10th grade and loved them. Met her once.
Too bad Matt Ashman is no longer with us. I've never seen any footage of them live, and I have to say they were consistently great live- the musicians were well tightened and Annabella just got better as they went-- Brings back so many memoories -Love them!!
How brilliant is it to put a Duane Eddy guitar sound, a funk bassist and an Afro-Cuban drum style together and have it all work perfectly? I think they were extremely underrated but unfortunately only known for 'I Want Candy'.
Wow John Frusciante mentions Ashman many times in interviews as his inspiration during Californication, in which he also sports a big white falcon guitar.
I've got to say this was one of the best gigs I ever went to. Even though I was trippin at the time. Bow Wow Wow weren't that well known at the time - it was a free gig so probably most of the crowd were comatose because they didn't know what they were getting. I was just hypnotized by Annabella's every movement and the amazing stereo sound and lights. Magic! The other highlight was hearing Grandmaster Flash with The Message echoing around the park, probably for the first time. More Magic!
FUUCK YESSS..!!!, JEEEZ LOOOUISE, Mathew Ashman just SHREDDED, Sooo sweet.., sooo forgotten and underrated....(sooo typical ov this "world"..)..., I LOOOVED these guys in thee early '80's, and whenever I put their album on ( "WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH.."vinyl..), my friends would get all upset, haahaahaa.., but,
This stuff is great! Too bad there isn't a diffinitve live album / DVD with great sound quality! The 80s in their prime were awesome, because they took the rawness and CREATIVITY of 60s and bypassed the guitar rock of the 70s. You look at the 80s and you have Garage, Punk, New Wave, Reggae, synth pop, Ska, Rockabilly, folk influences all taken up a notch. And all singers sounded different. just look at US festival 1983 the diversity of bands and styles esp. the punk and new wave days!!
Yeah, it's like The Smiths without Johnny Marr. It just wouldn't/couldn't be The Smiths. I love Bow wow wow but what a shame we never got to hear a 2nd "proper" Adam and the ants album.
Me too. I should have married her when I had the chance...well I knew someone who knew the bassplayer and I'm sure if she had in fact met me... My mate said Matthew (RIP) was a stroppy little git. Could play though.
From the book Simon Reynolds «Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984»: «Because the fourteen-year-old Annabella initially had problems fitting in with a bunch of much older lads, McLaren even persuaded the guys that the problem was her virginity. To get her out from under her mother’s sway and make her commit to the group, one of them had to do the dirty and deflower the underage singer. Reluctantly, the band drew lots, and guitarist Matthew Ashman was dispatched to perform the task. He failed.» Somebody knows something about it?
I only know about it from Reynolds' book. Don't know where he got this story. Not sure I believe it, but it could be true. From interviews, though, it is clear that Annabella looked back at McLaren as a positive figure in her life, at least for the most part.
You chump. If only I had known someone who knew the bass player then I would never have let that girl go. Bet you feel such a chump chop now. Imagine eh? You and Lwin and your cute kids.........
There it is in one that live outdoor events truly are a sack of shit - especially when in front of a bunch of stiffs and scousers to boot... You said it Annabella - Matthew Ashman and the best rhythm section anywhere. Just look at them! Diabetes mellitus... Game over. End of all the good times.
Each member of this band was amazing. Maff was astonishing.
Why are we all talking about ashman but not Gorman? Terrific and original bassist.
Gorman is an incredible bass player, but Matthew was a star. Timeless style and sound. People still reference him in 2020. It's too bad he never reached his full potential.
I seen Bow wow wow back in the 80s dame. I wish they would have Stayed. together.
What a fantastic guitarist Ashman was! Superb stuff!
drummer legend
I like TV too so I agree with them.

Orang Outang is freakin' CLASSIC. Talented band.
Ashman's playing on that is so epic -- he's like the John Wayne of guitarists.
Yes: epic. Like Ennio Morricone played in a Dick Dale /Duane Eddie style. Very cinematic.
Another band from the soundtrack of my life. They were around from when I was in 8th grade or so until junior year in HS but found out about them summer between 9th and 10th grade and loved them. Met her once.
Wow what great footage. Mathew Ashman was such a great guitarist. Sad he died so young.
Too bad Matt Ashman is no longer with us. I've never seen any footage of them live, and I have to say they were consistently great live- the musicians were well tightened and Annabella just got better as they went-- Brings back so many memoories -Love them!!

I know i just discovered thesr guys the other day, and was shocked the.main singer is 16 extremely talented and great songwriter
Coco Pops most of the first lyrics were written by Mc Laren. But yes, Annabella rules !!!
Drums and bass! Damn! I haven't listened to them in decades. Listen to that BASS!
Flea who?
Thank you for reminding me why I loved this band!
Wow John Frusciante mentions Ashman many times in interviews as his inspiration during Californication, in which he also sports a big white falcon guitar.
They worked great with the oirginal members but When Matthew Ashman passed away the Band was officially gone in my mind

All of them were great musicians. Matthew was just amazing. Would have loved to have been there.
Do remember how hot it was? I jumped into the lake to cool down and grabbed the bands power cables by mistake.....whoopsy !
Top band. Lovely singer.
I remember when I bought this cd 13 yrs ago, senior year high school, some clerk at the store was sayin how they sucked.. Sooo glad I didn't listen!!
I wish I could have been there.
Friggin Anabella was something else. How many 14-15 year old's could front a band in front of 50-100k people?
FUUCK YESSS..!!!, JEEEZ LOOOUISE, Mathew Ashman just SHREDDED, Sooo sweet.., sooo forgotten and underrated....(sooo typical ov this "world"..)..., I LOOOVED these guys in thee early '80's, and whenever I put their album on ( "WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH.."vinyl..), my friends would get all upset, haahaahaa.., but,
So was I!...brings back memories eh? It's amazing how clearly I remember it!
YEA!! I was also at this gig, the Larks In The Parks where brilliant.
This is most welcome. Memories of their 1rst lp!!! Yes! Awe-some....
It's true that this band is underrated, but you can't dismiss the 90s.
THANKS for posting this video clip!
Awesome footage!
Excellent, five stars: thanks for posting all the Bow Wow stuff.
Terrific concert; I had it on VHS once, but sadly no longer.
What I would really like to see is Sexy Eiffel Towers from this same concert.
love the guitar riff in the jam!!
I was there.

Hey, does anybody have an idea of which chords are being played for the guitar in the song Orang Outang ?
I appreciate the help! Great band!
Unbelievable, Annabelle was only 17 at this time.
I WILL OWN A GRETSCH WHITE FALCON SOMEDAY!!!
fanfuckingtastic stuff! Cheers!
Any chance you could edit Orang Utang into a video just by itself? It's so brilliant, it deserves its own home. :-)
See...I KNEW Danny was right ....you CAN strum a bass !!
日本に来日した時に中野サンプラザでみました。

I think that that comes from the McLaren book 'The Wicked Ways of Malcolm McLaren'
John Frusciante brought me here
Me 2 lol
You chump. If only I had known someone who knew the bass player then I would never have let that girl go. Bet you feel such a chump chop now. Imagine eh? You and Lwin and your cute kids.........
What a shame Ashman got into junk, a real guitar hero in the making, sadly interrupted.
…Matthew Ashman passed away due to complications from diabetes, not “junk”
What the hell is that?
They got payed also for this performance?
Tosser!

Mark Johnson Bloody awful mate. Are you deaf?
Gary Fearon Read it again properly before you gob off!
Maybe improve your grammar and punctuation if you want your words to be understood.
Gary Fearon Both knew and thought you would be defeated by it and, thus it was proven. Well done.
