Fun Facts:
Filming started in 1986, but was abandoned. Only 2 scenes are from 1986, the rest is from 1989.
The totem pole monster and the skeleton head that rips out of a man's stomach are both props taken from the Dokken music video 'Burning like a Flame'.
The footage shot in 1989 were shot in just 2 days.

Controversial opinion: The Lodge owner is actually legitimately creepy in this. With the right director and budget, he could've been a big horror icon. He gives me huge low budget giallo movie vibes. I can envision him wearing satin gloves, cutting a fake looking neck while laughing like a maniac.

It's so deserving.
Proving there is no justice in this world, Winterbeast is the director's only movie (and plaid jacket guy's only movie 😥) but Suburban Sasquach"s director has made seven films.
And you missed a lot of green leaves and lawns in the background. This was a year-round project. Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, "Hey, the director found a $20 in the pocket of an old coat! We can film this weekend" Kind of admire that.
I've seen a lot of conflicting info on this. I'd love to have more backstory on the making of it.
@@JasonBrant The movie doesn't even have a regular Wikipedia page. Unless some Australian video store owner becomes obsessed with this too I think we know all we're going to know. (PS - did you enjoy the 50th anniversary of my Dolphins' Perfect Season tonight?)
And the effects in this, amazingly, look better than most of the stuff in any Wascavage movie. The claymation stuff while not great (really good claymation takes time and money, let's not forget that) still is more bearable than some 2d models added in post. The gore looks more real too. Not hating on Wescavage, just my opinion.
It felt like the stop-motion were all done as film class projects, and then the friends decided to build a film around existing monsters.
You know that these "Lordships" for sale are a complete scam? It's the same thing as "naming a star" for someone. It's complete nonsense, sadly.

I'm glad to see more people watching this. Years ago my friend had a store called Weird World and on Saturdays I would go over there to watch bad movies and this was one of the first things we watched.

I'm actually convinced that you could build a suit for half of this stuff and put a person in it for less effort than went into the claymation. I mean, at least it couldn't have looked WORSE :)

I'm guessing someone ran an SFX class and promised his students a bit in the movie if they did a claymation segment. That's why there are so many different monsters without any reason. 😉
Whichever student came up with the chicken monster deserved an A.
Man this one has it all! Cheesy lines, bewbies, and weird claymation(?) characters out of a nightmare from those 70’s Christmas cartoons. 😂 This one is an instant classic

It's like Ray Harryhausen if he just stopped caring about his work! Sadly Jason was right. This was Christopher Thies' only movie, into which he probably put all of his meager resources, then unfortunately died in 2015 at the tender age of 50. IMDb says they started filming in 1986, only kept two scenes, then filmed the rest in 1989 so it's another "troubled production" if you can believe it. I wish someone could have made a documentary about how this movie came to exist, as it must be a wild story, but looks like that won't be happening.
I wish this dude made more movies.

Back when this gem was considered a "new release" title at our local mom and pop video store when I was a kid, it was priced at $2.99 a day (as opposed to older titles only being $0.99). I'm pretty sure I was the one who chose this for our family to watch that weekend, just cause I thought the cover was cool. It was pretty safe to say after watching his with the family I was no longer allowed to pick movies from then on.😆

This reminded me of Robot Chicken on an even lower budget (edit: I did not even get to the giant chicken part.. holy lol). I love how they're always using the same walls and camera angles.. "guys, we set everything up perfectly, let's just use it as much as we can".

Although i loved Suburban Sasquatch and this one, i can see why someone would prefer Winterbeast. A lot more effort went into it. The stop-motion stuff alone is so entertaining. At least they attempted special effects and sets.
The guy rolling down the hill gave me flash backs to Chris Farley in Black Sheep. What in the hell was that all about!

I. LOVE. THIS. MOVIE!!! (which is why nobody ever has me assist them with planning their parties...). We even bought the RiffTrax version of it. It's like a home movie from The Twilight Zone, SO exquisitely inept & deranged. You gotta love any film with Box O'Dong, a flaming queen you could smelt copper over - and the Tree Monster is clearly a wooden Gir from "Invader Zim" LOL Oh - did you notice the Playgirl centrefold Ranger guy's hair/stache changes? It's because there was a 3 year halt in filming. This is SOOO awesome... I'm hoping the technology exists when I kick off so this can play on continuous loop on my tombstone. It should also be the National Anthem of SGIB. I am SOOOOO happy you shared this!
I did notice the stache changes, but they told me I was wrong! I should know better than to listen to them.

This one sure seems something special, the stop motion is goofy fun and it's a shame we don't get more of the old plaid jacketed fellow, he was having some real fun chewing the scenery. This reminds me of the drive-in classic, "Equinox" from 1970. It's like 'Evil Dead' except the devil shows up as a park ranger and sends monsters after the protagonists to retrieve the magic book and they have no cabin to hide in. Then Ranger The Devil tries to SA the female in the protagonist group but her crucifix repels him, so he turns into a flying demon and a guy gets hit by a VW Beetle. One of the guys who worked on it, Jim Danforth, later went on to work with Harryhausen. Monster effects are better in 'Equinox'. If you remember 'WKRP in Cincinnati' you might recognize one of the actors.
Stop-motion also resembles the aliens from 'Laserblast'.

Bro... That music reminds me of the VHS porno movies I found in my dad's "old movie collection" in middle school. I mean the subject matter is different (though not as much as you might think), but the cinematography, score, and leveling is basically identical. I recall being horrified upon seeing one of these films for the first time and (barely) hearing someone utter "that's no way to speak to your mother during our 'family time.'"
It killed my soul a little and I never looked at my dad the same way again... I'm just glad I'm his son and that the film scene wasn't all dudes....
After feeding on your misery for so long it's nice to finally feed on your joy!
