- I am a tackle junkie and I know a good product when I see it. In my opinion, the Edge Flex and the Buzbe Colony tackle boxes are the very best on the market currently. In this video I do a thorough comparison of both boxes. Hopefully this helps you decide which is best for you.

Watched this awesome video again!
1. I used Plano Edge boxes this season.
A. Water did get inside, quickly. And even penetrated the small terminal boxes.
B. I contacted Plano and the Edge boxes do NOT float.
Next season I’ll tr my Buzbee boxes!
Thanks for the videos. Keep ‘em comong!
Solid review; as good as the Buzbee sounds; if I spend $40 on the box, i do not want to spend additional money to add the specific small containers to tailor fit the box for my needs. The Edge allows me to configure the box to suit my needs without additional cost.
Good point
Finally an accurate and comprehensive comparison! Thanks!
Great job with lots of important details...Thanks a bunch!
Glad it was helpful!
Great informative video.
Recently purchased a buzbe colony 28 and it is impressive. Well made over engineered is correct. Have had all the plano boxes and have suffered warped plastic, broken latches, etc. Although the Buzbe does weigh more, its worth it . I don't carry tons of tackle in my backpack.
I Will be fully investing in the Buzbe system until something better comes along.
Great comparison! I was looking for reviews on the Plano... but now I find myself leaning towards the Buzbe now! Pros and cons to both... but I think the durability of the Buzbe is more intriguing. We do back-country, ATV camping, and fishing trips. It seems like it would hold up well.
Keep up the great work! Earned a Subscriber.
I love the plano but if they’re ever exposed to water they fill up ibstabtly
Great video. I just bought a few Plano Edge boxes. So far a like them. See how it goes this summer fishing. I’ve always used a big tackle box. But I’m thinking this is the way to go. Thanks for sharing this great review.
I have the Buzbe, and you demonstrated several times in the video ( without commenting on it) - THE BINS POP OUT. they don't stay put. Drives me crazy to have them pop loose every time the lid is opened. Probably going to send them back and go with the Plano
Thanks for mentioning that. I am not sure if this is a wide spread problem or not. I noticed that if I really force them in I have not had as much of an issue with them popping out. I would like to hear if more people are having the same issue because it could be a deal breaker.
Thank you for a great video. I just purchased two of the small Buzbe boxes. Thank you.
I’ve got a Buzbee update video coming out soon
now that buzbe has some deeper options and more accessories... how would you compare these 2 brands now days? and how much do the gamakatsu boxes weigh ?
Should make a updated video of this
Great breakdown
I’m constantly rearranging my tackle with different boxes. I even modify some by cutting out bigger spaces and gluing in dividers but I agree with you, there is no perfect system. I think I’m going to try the Buzbe first because it floats and I like that for my kayak.
I’m with you. I am always tinkering to find something better. I like the Buzbe quite a bit, but wish the boxes were a little bit deeper. They are extremely tough boxes and I agree that they may be just what I need for my kayak. I have only dumped out completely one time, but I lost quite a bit of stuff in the process.
@@MrBassTV they now make a deep version!
This was a great video, really helpful. I`ve always loved plano tackle boxes and i have never heard of Buzbe before, because i live in Finland and everything new or old comes super late to Finland. Fishermans in Finland usually talk "on the other side of the puddle" when it comes to new fishing equipments in america. I think Buzbe is better than Plano, no matter what you use it for.
Thank you again for your videos. they are hepful and you stay on the point.
Reminder set !
Humm.....Ned this is at least the second video I didn't get a notification on. I'm not sure what's going on with youtube. I've been with you since the very beginning and and have been subed and had notifications turned on. I really like the Buzbe boxes. I don't have a lot of storage space on my boat and as you know, at certain times you don't need everything with you anyway.
I've been researching these 2 for awhile now. I'm leaning towards flex.
Hope the video helped. Thanks for watching
Flex is the way to go one hand open is key to fishing out on the lake or kayak
This is a really great video. But it missed a huge advantage of Buzbe boxes. And underplayed some of their negatives, imo.
The amazing advantage/innovation of Buzbe boxes is the inserts in the lid - not for stacking like he said, they're not - but pointing downward into the box. They prevent every single hook, no matter how small, from spilling over into another compartment.
The negative about Buzbe boxes is that they are heavy, they are bigger, and the "lego" interlocking system is not nearly as good as lego.
Thats a good point. I dont use mine for terminal tackle but that’s huge for sure.
Yeah the box is heavy you are not joking
My Plano Edge got wet....wicking system I think is for show. Plastic warped and lids difficult to shut. Customer service abominable. I switched to Buzbe 28 and 28 Deep bundles. Love the fact I can modify in all directions. Buzbe has my vote
There’s alot to like about Buzbe
Quick follow up based on your review. . .
I've slowly been acquiring 3600 Plano edge boxes for my tackle bag /system.
After about a year, I can honestly say that I am 95+% happy (all things considered) with the Plano Edge.
The sizes are nice, the quality of the build / construction / design/ materials used is fair considereing the price point.
I consider these 'premium' boxes, but they do need to be 'cared for' a little . . . these are NOT bomb-proof PELICAN CASES, and I am OK with that.
These will last FAR LONGER and work much better than standard boxes, and there in lies the value.
So far, no warping, cracking, breaking, or loss of fit and finish. (Yes the single latch does have to be attended to a little).
I use mine frequently in a boat, under 'normal' circumstances . . . nothing unusual, extreme, abusive, or overly wet.
That being said, If I was to be using them in a more demanding environment, I would probably choose the Buzbe, simply due to their ruggedness.
To summarize, I feel the Plano Edge for it's versatility, ease of use, weight, and space savings is the better choice 'overall' for the 'majority' of anglers.
And for those who need a more 'bullet-proof' option where weight, and maybe a loss in some 'volume' aren't an issue, then the Buzbe is probably a better choice.
Great in-depth review. Both look good. Great video
Thanks John. I hope to see you on the live stream Saturday
@@MrBassTV Absolutley man!
I would of liked to see a water test on each one of these. The results of that test would determined my decision to buy buy or not.
After watching this video I decided to go with the plano 3700 EDGE boxes(4-34) My first box is loaded with crankbaits and I managed to get 34 crankbaits into it(without the hooks getting snagged on each other) 17 bagley pro sunny b lures on one side and 17 mr-6 bill lewis lures on the other side. Can’t wait to get out on the water.
I think you will really like that box
Great review! Love the Buzbe. New subsciber after watching a couple of your videos sir.
Thanks!
I bought the Buzbe boxes .. and second guessing them bc of the weight .. my Tackle bag on my Jon boat is roughly 25 lbs in just Gamakatsu boxes and a lews bag .. I’m scared these buzbe might be 40 lbs
Per your question...in a kayak, and ultimately want a Buzbe on either side of my day-crate, and a Plano flex-terminal under the seat.
Good to know. As far as terminal tackle goes, I just rigged up the Colony 15 terminal box and really like it alot.
I’m realizing that I hate trays. I bought into it about 13 years ago. Now I realize I traded a rigid tackle box that was a “one stop shop”, for a bag to keep other boxes (a box of boxes)in. I never can fit everything into 1 so I end up with a couple baits of one category in the box for another category…. Trays scattered everywhere because I usually need something out of more than one tray. My old rigid tackle boxes were great….open it up and there everything is, take out what I need and close it back. I’m going back to that.
Great review. I have a bunch of buzbe and the plano edge. Really like the modular aspect of the buzbe box. My hinges are sliding a bit and have had to push them back several times. No real issue from that yet. Like my plano edge boxes except the hinge is not as reliable as you showed in the video. Buzbe seems much more durable. Like you said there is no perfect box. I think I will get some Flex boxes for storing some of those big swimbaits like you have hanging on the wall behind you.
Thanks for the info! I have yet to find one box that fits all my needs, but I like both of these alot.
Great review thanks
First, let me give cudos for you excellent reviews. No funny stuff, just the facts as you see them. Three issues I have on every box: visibility to contents, latch mechanism and ability to hold hooks etc in each compartment without spilling when the box is put on edge. The plano edge flex restricts visibillity of 40% of the box. not acceptable. The other edge boxes are clear across the entire top so no issue there. The edge latch is too fiddly for easy operation. Yes, one latch which is good but being fiddly makes this a poor solution. Lastly, do these boxes hold hooks etc without spilling into other compartments. I wish you had commented on this issue with all the boxes you reviewed.
I only have Plano, so I love my Plano boxes
I have a few edge boxes. They are so close to being perfect for me, but there are two big issues that annoy the heck out of me:
1) the 3600 isn't compatible with the 3700 Edge terminal tackle box. It would be so nice to be able to take a few boxes out of the terminal tackle box and drop it into the 3600 for the day... but its like 2mm too small.
2) the 3600 doesn't fit in the hatch of a Hobie Pro Angler. It again is like just slightly too big.
Awesome comments Warren. I wonder how this stuff gets past the designers at Plano. I have not tried the 3600 in my Hobie PA so that is good information for me. Thanks for watching. Don’t you just love that Hobie? I can’t get enough of mine.
Omg I cant wait for this one. My vote is for Flex.
what will plano do when the dessicant's are used up and is no longer absorbant? What do you think about the kast king's copy of the plano edge boxes?
Great program doesn't matter which one
Good for
Good for
I use more Plano Edge than Buzbe however, I have both systems for my tackle management, and I like them equally.
The Plano Edge boxes are not watertight. They failed my one minute dunk test. :(
Has anyone measured the space between the BUZBE Colony trays and added up all that space?
I would be curious as to how much space is lost to the outer lip of each tray multiplied by all the trays/sides.
I've not actually measured, but I have wondered the same thing. You are on to something there and I think it does impact the overall space you have for lures.
At the same price point I believe the Buzbe blows the Plano out of the water.
The Buzbe is the real deal for sure
They name is based one how many 1x1 squares can fit inside the box
Thanks for the review, just subscribed...Question: Let's say I need 1 Buzbe Colony to make kayak fishing pure bliss...but want to remove 2 compartments for a couple larger SB's, (they don't offer boxes that fit). If the Colony is not completely filled, will the other boxes come loose easily?
That’s a good question. At first glance it appears you could remove some compartments to give you room for big SBs but I am not confident the others will stay in place. I may experiment with that.
I have multiple trays of both. I think Plano edge wins based simply because it’s lightweight and slim factor. I like buzby for its bomb proof factor but it’s bulky, heavy, and doesn’t hold as much.
I just picked up two Plano Edge 3700 boxes today
Tbh Plano got my vote over all its better
I mean honestly all Plano would have to do at this point is make terminal boxes that fit into the flex. Make it where you remove some dividers then drop in some terminal compartments that are compatible and BOOM! Game over 🤷
Great idea!
I want that Plano Edge Jig Box so damn bad! Just haven't pulled the trigger on the $40. Soon though.
I’ve got the jig box and it’s pretty sweet. Another jig box I have is the Gruv box and it’s pretty good too.
U give pretty awesome reviews
Glad you like them!
is there is 3600 Edge Flex? i have all 3600 for my Ego Kryptek Tackle Box Bag.
I would go with the Plano awesome review
Thanks William! I like them both a whole bunch, but if I could only go with one, I am probably leaning toward that flex system. I like the deeper Plano box, but I also like how tough the Buzbe box is. It’s incredibly durable.
the basslabs jerkbait you gave me sinks like a rock so funny XD
Interesting. If that’s the case you may want to try fishing it more like a crank bait.
@@MrBassTV we will see lol
Haven’t tried they buzbe but I have a lot of the edge boxes. What I like about them is the different options it gives you, the jig box it’s amazing and the terminal tackle box it’s the best inn the market. It’s just perfect.
But not gonna like that buzbe box looks really good.
The Edge boxes are nice, but the Edge Flex boxes are way better IMO. I haven't made up my mind on the Buzbe boxes yet. Hope to see you on the livestream Saturday night.
@@MrBassTV yessss, this week I got three of the flex 3700 and two of the 3600. They are just great.
I’ll try if not I’ll watch it later on. Great content Tho, you are doing a great job giving your advice.
Thank you for the channel.
I’d use a mix of Edge and Busbe in my backpack
I use BUZBE and love them !!!
Hi. Does a standard size leader spool fit in the larger square bin inside the buzbe? (Seaguar leader as an example). Thank You.
I believe that the 50 yard spools of leader line will fit.
@@MrBassTV thanks!
One thing you did not mention about the Buzbe box is that if you wanted to add just one more 1 by 4 insert, you would also have to switch out several other inserts to make it all fit (or just leave some out of the box altogether). Buying the inserts is not cheap either.
Mr. Bass. Great review. Why is nobody talking or pointing out a very important feature on the Plano Flex... Look at the sides and see the built in rack system capabilities. Can't find anything on a rack for these yet. Been to Home Depot twice looking at aluminum stock to create a rack for my boat locker but I keep thinking Plano is going to come out with one soon. Your thought?
Thats an interesting idea. I have noticed the unique design of the sides, but a rack system has not occurred to me. Let me know if you find anything.
Technically a matchbox with a beetle spin in it will catch anything and everything lol but like everyone els I must have a thousand lures.
You like deeper boxes but fail to mention that the Buzbe boxes are offered in a deeper version.
You couldn’t get them in deep boxes when I made this video.
Are the Plano Edge and Busby the sa
The buzbe is military grade plastic? Must be the absolutely cheapest option possible there was for plastic
i wouldnt know how to justy the price tag on those boxes
I have the buzbe boxes, and the inserts never stay seated. That's not good for a terminal tackle box. They need a 2x7 that fits the full width for tools, etc.
I’ve heard similar complaints about the inserts popping loose, but I have not had any issues with it. Definitely has become my favorite go to terminal tackle box. I’m about to post an update video since I have been using them for more than a year now.
Awe man I was doing HONEY DO'S, and lost track of time ⏲️😢
I would probably go with the Plano Flex because of the dividers you could position the way you want, and the depth !!
It's a pretty sweet box. Hope to see you Saturday night on the live show.
I feel saltwater so either or
Do any boxes offer a spot for a silicone moisture absorber?
The plano boxes have a moisture wicking component. The others do not
I don’t think I would like how much space the compartments use up.
Whic box is the most water proof?
Buzbe
“Gives Plano the edge” I see what you did there
Ima set a alarm 🤣
Pretty sure I watched a video before this that said "Icast buzbe by Plano"
I find the Edge boxes way better. The only way I would give a slight edge to the Buzbe is if you only take one box for your day but who does that :-) And frankly I don't find the Buzbe good looking and find the Edge look really sharp. By the way, both of these float, even loaded with tackle. When you think of the value of either loaded with tackle, it make sense they float.
Thanks for sharing!
maybe we should just change your name to "Professor Bass"
Where are the boxes made??
Unfortunatley, both brands are made in CHINA
they sell hook retainer boxes separate for the edge system.... will hooks not stay in the modular boxes on their own?
I haven't tried putting hooks in the edge boxes yet. Just by the looks of it, the hooks will probably stay put in the Edge "FLEX" boxes and may move around in the normal Edge boxes.
@@MrBassTV disappointing if that's the case and we have to purchase even more addons for hooks but i guess we'll see!
The deep Plano boxes mean less boxes per backpack, tacklebox
"Plano has the "edge" on rust protection" nice pun.
Lol. Not sure how many picked up on that.
The edge boxes pop open all the time junk with one latch
Thanks for the feedback.
plano will replace box under warranty
the flex
It's a great box. Thanks for watching. Hope to see you on the live stream Saturday night.
Buzbee has the most horrible customer service. Awful experience
Too long. Sorry. Couldn’t sit thru 30 minutes to get to ur answer to ur question.
