To have a good result when dyeing fabric, is good to boil the dye from the tubers and put the fabric into the boiling water so that the fiber on the fabric take on a good color.
Your wife's cabin and farm are beautiful, but I must say that I find your farm more appealing. Perhaps that is because I watched you build everything by hand using old technology, from the first little woven bamboo cottage, to a pond and then all of the other buildings! Congratulations to both of you!
To think how far your farm has come… very exciting. You should feel really proud of what you’re achieving. It was lovely to see you and your wife working together. Thank you for another great video! ✨
Some may not apprecitate your way of f using primitive tools but it shows us that we can survive and do well without them if ff we ever again need to. Thank you, so peaceful a no d beautiful, I enjoy watching the most.
Whenever it comes to natural dyes (as plants), we usually boil them to get the most color out, and even boil the fabric sometimes with the roots/leaves to dye them.
For those who build wooden houses like this, make sure to include a small piece of copper wiring between the stone foundation and the wood to drive off termites as well as having the wood treated against humidity. The slant of the balcony roof also should be at a slight angle and not flat to prevent water from siting there and infiltrating into the beams
Hi Doung, Please forgive me for not commenting for a while. You simply amaze me and all that you know and accomplish!!! I still think you could be a consultant for others struggling to get their farms going. You're very skilled. I'm so loving your fabric tasks, and I hope to see you make something with it. 😊 Also, you have some very big fish!!! I was like, wow, I'd like to get one of those cooked up. There would be enough for a small dinner party!! Very beautiful. 😊🥰 Thank you for sharing. ❤
Well done. I look forward to the projects you will make with that cloth. Maybe clothes for your family. And you can help your wife with her projects to build a home for the kids to play and learn skills. It is my fantasy life to do this and teach my skills to my grandchilred as I taught my son.
Great job Doung, I learn from you my friend. I do know that beets are used as a dye also. And certain tree barks are used! Thank my friend for another learning experience. ❤Much love from.🇺🇲
Dyeing with natural materials isn't easy unless you have a lot of practice. You would have got better results with less hands on labour in a larger container with more water. It allows faster absorption, and a more consistent product without patchiness. I've done a little dyeing with plant materials and it's always a bit of a gamble. Dye that most people use now is always synthetic, often a modern version of an older natural dye. I always enjoy your videos, you put in so much work. 👍
Started with wood few years ago, then stone, then iron, then farm, then trading, then electricity, then finally, once they are done working on their dream house, he will start collecting obsidian and create a netherportal, 😂 I’m just kidding, I am happy for you and your family’s success, God Bless Duong and your family🙏🏻
Unfortunately, the natural pigment quickly fades in the sun. You need to dry the fabric in the shade. You need to add lime juice, acid to the pigment, it stabilizes the pigment, but it will fade quickly in the sun.
Thank you for posting! I boil my pigmented water and steep my fabrics for about 10 minutes. Then I place them into a vinegar solution to set the color.
Duong, hit the nails on the sharp point when near the edge of the wood. This will stop the wood from splitting. You don't need to drill. It's a tip I just learned. My brother just laughed at me as he is a carpenter. Trade secrets.

Has hecho una tela fuerte y resistente. Muchas felicidades!!
Though the quality is quite good, it certainly seems of NOT as high a quality as one might expect from material bought in a store. The AMOUNT of material seems (to me) quite appropriate for the time available to weave it.
Are those roots and leaves okay to be around food? I'm wondering because that's the mortar you use for grinding rice and corn. Also, you did not show how you made the black dye color. Will you be showing that?

Thank you for comment
I absolutely agree with you👍🏼
Heat setting is needed, that's why the sun dries them.
Also we use vinegar to set the colors
Good! But what about the black one? How did you do that? Was it with grounded charcoal?
Could be black Walnut, iris root, log wood, or oak galls?
@@Rockys-Mummade me think in iron gall ink too
Hard to get a black that is as black as one in the video without modern dye.

i love your work altogether....
thank you so much
Your colours looks so nice. People had to wear similar colours of clothes in the Middle Ages. It is like time travel.
Thank you
Hey Duong, that's not blue, that's green :') All the plants are green, the dye is green, the fabric is green. Blue is the color of the sky :o

Một ngôi nhà thật thoáng mát❤❤

I believe you can speed up the dyeing process by heating up the dye and soaking material in hot mixture for a longer time. Good luck and good work!

The red color reminds me of Buddhist garments.
The chain on your chainsaw is too loose, you have to tighten it otherwise the sawing is too dangerous, but great video

You should make a dye tub where the fabric can bath in different color sections of the dye and a dry over-hang rack.

You have to add citric acid for color retention.
is it like a potato or a yam? can you eat it? is it starchy? i think im obsessed with these red potatoes!:O
