  • This walk from the shores of Loch Earn takes in the two munro of Ben Vorlich and Stuc a' Chroin. Starting from Ardvorlich on the south side of the loch the walk is on a good track for most of the way.
This pair make for an enjoyable outing and provide a great vantage point for the bigger ranges further north and west.

thanks for posting this. I’m looking to do this route when I am visiting my parents next month. Your video makes it very clear as to which is the best way to take how long it takes and describe in the terrain which is really useful. Many thanks again 👍

Climbed this pair in May 1994, Charlie, with Bryan and John, who are, like me, long retired from what we all enjoy so much. A lot of snow that day, and we found a plaque in memory of the founder of Falkirk Mountaineering Club, 1938. Best wishes to all three of you.

The guy was called Stewart. He died in 1954. The cairn was erected in 1958. It was at the top of Vorlich. Weather etc seems to have done for it.
There’s also the stone by the east gate of Ardvorlich House which says
“Near this spot we-re buried the bodies of seven MacDonalds who attempted to harry Ardvorlich”
      Dated 1629.
That day we met a local who gave us a rendering of a poem about Vorlich looking down on fair Dunsyre!

      Correction Charlie.
It’s on the Stuc, and it is a memorial to Donald Stuart.

Good stuff Charlie, it's been so long since I've done these two that your video has made me fancy a return trip. I'd probably go back over Vorlich too saving the contouring around.
    Cheers

I like these two Munros, Great views from both of them. I love the drive up and around that area. Although the gamekeeper guy who patrols the south shores of Loch Earn when the fishing season is over can be a total pain in the arse at times. Must have told him a 100 times i'm here to go up the hill and i hate fishing full stop dosent seem to register in his daft heid LOL! Whit a guy!! Cheers C&M&Mike Jnr. PS Is there a Charlie Jnr by any chance?

C,mon Charlie, pronounced Balwither, Balwither :-)). I did Stuc a Chroin in the snow in my early Munro days, no crampons, no ice axe, a bum gravy experience. Following week, new ice axe and crampons. You learn by your mistakes. Great watch again Charlie, thank you.

Good morning Charlie. Loved the film, you were certainly rewarded for an early start. Michael Junior was motoring well, is he on the quest for a full Munro round? I walked these 2 way back in October 2000, way before mobiles could take photos let alone videos. the path has improved a lot since then. Inexperienced back then, it was a clear day and we descended along a path from BV, lost a lot of height and no sign of the 2nd Munro, then realised we'd gone down the S ridge instead of W! So quite a climb back up from the coire to the col, rewarded with seeing a huge herd of deer. Two great Munros. Using video alone looks more effective than a mix of photos and film, I think it's time to splash out on a GoPro. Is yours the 2K HD or 4K UHD version? Well done, can't wait for the next film, much better than anything on TV these days! Best wishes, Iwan.

@@charliemccartney7055 Thanks for that Charlie, I'll look into it. Fair play you respond quickly to every comment your fans post to you. Good luck with the weather next weekend, looks OK at the moment. Cheers, Iwan.

I tried to climb Vorlich this morning, and FAILED. It's my first Munro and one that was regarded as slightly easier. I got to 533 Meteres in 1hr. 20 and my legs had gave way. Back was hurting probably from a pack to heavy and my boots were killing my feet, from around 480m to 530 i was stopping every 10m to remove my back pack and let my legs settle. Then decided to head back. Came home extremely disappointed with myself. Think i might work on my fitness. Buying much lighter gear and taking up much lower hills and then come back and try again.

Hi Allan, Great effort in getting to where you did and the lessons learnt are invaluable. Fitness is certainly the key and can be worked on with your current gear on lower tops or rough ground walking to gradually build your Munro legs. You had a disappoint day but are certainly thinking the correct way for taking things forward. Well done. Cheers, Charlie.
