    Is there a way to force input 1 to come on automatically on start up. Had the cinema 50, hooked to lg cx. With apple tv plugged into receiver. Hdmi 1 came on automatically everytime. Stupid me wanted to upgrade tv. Got Sony a95l which was bad but also killed this working feature of starting on hdmi 1. Now Apple tv always comes on. Got rid of a95l for new LG g4 but still the problem remains. How do I get it to start up on hdmi 1? I know it used to work but it broke itself as soon as I plugged in a new hdmi tv it broke.

      I think this has to do with HDMI-CEC. Make sure that it’s turned on on your TV settings.

    I just received mine today coming from an Onkyo TX NR 1030 but has issues With Atmos through streaming. Cant wait to get the 50 up and running! Great video! Thanks!

    I returned mine. Sounds too tin. Even with external amp. 200watts/channel to all 5 ear levels and 100 watts to all my 4 atmos. I have to turn the volume all the way up to aound ok. May be when they have the Dirac ill try it again.
    Pros: the surround effects are clear.
    Cons: over all sounds are not bold or dynamic.

      To me, it sounds comparable to the 7012, but if you were coming from another receiver I can understand the criticism.

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The extra $1000 was one thing, but waiting for months? Not worth it. The Cinema 50 is so much better than the 7012 it replaced. The Cinema 40 would have been only marginally better, IMO.

  • @RickSanchez-rl6dc
    @RickSanchez-rl6dc ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the channel! Quick question….
    Do you feel the Marantz Cinema 50 is powerful enough to run all 9 channels? or do you think the Marantz Cinema 40 would be a better option to run all 9 channels.

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Tough one. Probably, and with the price differential.... But if you needed 11 channels, the Cinema 40 starts looking a tiny bit more affordable (if you don't already have a stereo amp that would pair well with the Cinema 40.

  • @jay2799
    @jay2799 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just picked up the matantz cinema 60 and was wondering if I should return it and get the cinema 50. Do you think it is worth the extra $800.00?

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously I think it was worth it. I needed the two more amplified channels, the extra 10 watts per channel is nice but not important, and the two extra subwoofer outs are also nice (but 2 is probably plenty). But if you can live with 7 channels, the Cinema 60 may be all you need.

  • @joebellanca4949

    I just purchased the Cinema 50 and on the fence of returning and waiting to try the Denon 4800H. I am finding the dynamics seem to be soft and I am using a high end external amp PS Audio BHK 250 and Cary Cinema 5.. Are you finding the dynamics lacking and not exciting in the Cinema 50?

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Coming from the 7012, it sounds similar. But my ears aren’t that great. Not sure a Denon would be that different, since they probably share a lot of components. For this kind of money, though, don’t settle. Get what sounds best to you.

    Hi Dr Wiggo. Thank you for your video. Reassured myself alot. I have almost the same setup. I have a sony TV where i have to switch on VRR on the HDMI Input. Does it have a negativ impact when I switch to my 4k-Player and VRR is still active on my TV?

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure, but it seems to me it wouldn't be a problem since the frame rate would be constant so VRR shouldn't get activated. Try it! It shouldn't break your TV.

    • @DrWiggo

      The Apple TV was what I dropped since I had one fewer HDMI in, and the Roku Ultra does all the same things. But even on the 7012, I never had a lot of luck with Dolby Vision on the Apple TV, while the Roku was flawless, just as it is on the Cinema 50.

    Very nice setup and the cinema 50 looks like a great AVR. I considered going with the cinema 40 but don’t want to wait until later in the spring. I ended up going with the Denon X4800H which I should have within the next 3 weeks and to complement it I also got the 77” LG G2(no room for the 83”) and I think it should be awesome. It will be my first OLED and my first Denon

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing the Cinema 40 had that I wanted was the 8th HDMI input. Hardly worth $1000. The audio cabinet is a Salamander Designs that I got at Best Buy almost 10 years ago. I see Crutchfield carries them (very expensive; mine would be at least $2500 today).

    Nice video review on the Marantz. We have a Marantz also. as for your hundred dollar optical cable, I don’t know about that I have a HDMI high-speed cable and it does all the 4K48 Hz to 120 Hz AK and I only paid $16 for it.
    And you mentioned you got that idea of buying a active optical cable from Linus tips. video that guy is all over the place I don’t listen to that guy

      Better to overpay and have no problems. Though better still to NOT overpay and have no problems (so you win). And in Linus' defense, he did have confusing charts and graphs. 😀

  • @relaxn79

    TiVo, yes. TiVo is the best. I got the roamio. My question is when I have TiVo plugged into my SR 5012 I can't get the receiver to switch back to TiVo after using Apple TV. Is there a way to get this cinema 50 to switch back to TiVo without using the cinema remote? I have to plug Apple tv directly to TV and use TiVo remote to switch inputs on TV.
    I got the udp 203, ps5 and switch like yourself. I think it's the CEC issue that doesn't work as intended.

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had a lot of luck with the HDMI CEC (it worked on the 7012, but not with the Cinema 50 with the exact same settings). So I have to use the cinema remote to switch inputs.

    • @relaxn79
      @relaxn79 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dr Wiggo Thanks. I ended getting the cinema 50. Plugged in Apple TV to cinema. Apple tv to sleep after 15 min so it'll turn on to TiVo as long as Apple is asleep. Turned off ps5 auto turn on. Works good. Upgraded from SR5012. I had clipping from LG 65CX now that cinema upgraded to "e"arc vs arc. No issues with arc but earc clipped so I plugged directly to cinema. Maybe it's the hdmi maybe it's the LG but I'm not spending more money for an hdmi cable.

  • @aspjake123

    How will the 50 compare to the 40? Is the 1K difference in price worth it?

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว

      The 40 has one more HDMI input, two more amplified channels (so bi-amping or 7.2.4 become possible), 15 more watts per channel, an additional zone, and both a composite and component video input (with HDMI conversion). Not enough to be worth $1K to me but YMMV.

      @@DrWiggo I have been watching Philip's latest training video on Marantz's new Cinema line up. The new internal design and parts really set the Cinema line up to a higher standard. I am sold at this point. I also really like how a big company like Marantz works very closely with the expert community and takes their requests into account when designing new products. I think if I were to spend my money on a home theater system, I would choose Marantz based on the care they have for their community. Thank you, Dr Wiggo! 🫰

    I was thinking of Cinema 50 but Cinema 40 is more powerful, Made in Japan, same factory where Denon's flagship receiver are built. Cinema 40 has better parts inside and front is metal with screen once you flip the cover. I think Cinema 50 has 1 benefit over 40 that you can run 4 subwoofers but 40 can run only 2 subwoofers.

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe you are correct about the subwoofers (odd, too). Still think the $1000 price difference is too much.

    Congrats! Marantz Cinema 50 looks like the best choice today considering with all those features and options that are available right out of the box and also pricewise in my opinion. I have a 5.1 setup since 10 yrs back with Yamaha RX-A1010 receiver. I have upgraded tv to LG C1 55" OLED last year and it time for upgrading the receiver for me too. At the same time I also would like to expand my surround system to Atmos/Dts-X. However, I want to keep bi-amping front L and R speakers cause it makes really sense. Atmos setup is most likely to be 5.1.4 in my case. Marantz Cinema 50 has 9 channels amplified, right? which means I must forget about bi-amping or use as 5.1.2 instead of 5.1.4 if I do not want to utilize external amplifier. Is that correct? Finally, which of the channels are dedicated to bi-amping in Cinema 50? Thanks in advance for your reply & Thanks for the great video. Cheers!

    • @DrWiggo
      @DrWiggo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. 11 processing channels but only 9 amps. In the Amp Assign setup, you can choose 9.1 (which I'm using for 5.2.4), or 7.1 bi-amp (which uses two of the height amps for the bi-amping). So yes, if you want 4 heights with no external amps, then you're stuck with the 9.1 option. But you can still have 2 heights with bi-amping 5.1.2.

    • @ilhanschen
      @ilhanschen ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrWiggo Great! Thanks for the input. I could not find such a clear explanation on the net, was hence a bit unsure before, really appreciated. Cinema 40 with 11 channels amp is the one fulfilling the requirement actually but is too expensive, so the Cinema 50 sounds enough to me. :)

    • @fredriks9610
      @fredriks9610 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ilhanschen Cinema 40 "only" has 9 amps too and the same 11.4 channel preouts and Sharc DSP processor as the Cinema 50, just a little more power.
      But more "acoustic treatment for audio tuning" (cupper screws on the back panel! 😁) and are made in Shirakawa Audio Works (Japan). Cinema 50 is absolute the the right choice IMO.
