Great test and incredible result. I doubt anyone in the history of the world has put a folder, or any knife, through this much abuse except in destruction tests like this. If it can take this much abuse then it would easily survive any realistic real-life need.
This knife did a incredible good job holding up good thing I have one did bushcraft only but never had to use it hard under any life threatening surivial situation before thanks for the video for showing it’s capability of the knife
Great test! It means that 8Cr13MoV is definitely stronger than S35VN. I wish they offered G10 on the Coldsteel SR1 made of 8Cr13MoV. They also need to make the Recon1 folder out of 8Cr13MoV and no black coating. That would be a really great and practical decision.
8cr13 may be a tad tougher but the lack of edge retention definitely makes it a worse steel overall. it would be nice if they'd offer the sr1 in cruwear, now THAT would be tough as nails beater!
@@Schnoizl Good point. However, I'm not sure if it is better overall. For people who never sharpen pocket knives (and use them mainly as expensive collectibles) I think S35 and S30 are definitely better but those who do sharpen knives and use them--well, I'm not sure. Personally I like my knives to be made of tough steel and have a tough/strong structure. I don't mind sharpening knives at all. Even 8cr13 doesn't require frequent sharpening in reality unless we use it all the time as some tool. In the latter case, a proper tool might be preferable (scissors, small saws, utility knives, kitchen knives, fixed blade hunting knives, etc.) A pocket knife is just a pocket knife. I only use a pocket knife for cutting something occasionally, usually something easy and small. So, I rarely need to sharpen a pocket knife. That said, I prefer my knives to be razor sharp. Once again, I don't mind sharpening them. It's easy, except for the serrated knives.
And sometimes I may even use a pocket knife for opening a can or something like that. It's unacceptable if the blade will chip or break. And the blade should be relatively thin or cutting is not comfortable. But that's me. There's no accounting for taste. I also prefer 3mm blades on pocket knives but I also have knives in 3.5 (Cold Steel) and even 4mm (the ZT 560 knife made out of Elmax steel--a bit too thick IMO but otherwise an excellent knife). I wish they also produced pocket knives out of non-stainless steels, especially those knives whose blades have black coatings. Stainless steels are not serious steels in my opinion. They lack toughness, especially S30V and steels like that (very popular among knife collectors).
Good job. I recently got the SR1 with clip point blade. I already have the Lite in tanto. I’m impressed to see how much abuse the knife held up to before breaking. I think that if Cold Steel went all in and made an SR1 in 3V steel it would be indestructible.
Cool test mate. Here is a suggestion for testing the folders ( do it last though): Hammer the knife in a trunk/tree parallel to the ground and and try to stand on it. If it holds your weight it’s a damn solid folder. Keep on the good work

you guys need to understand that a slightly tougher steel doesn't mean that it is better. s35vn has 4-5 times the edge retention of 8cr13mov, now think about what you do with a knife for the most time...exactly cutting. with the 8cr you are constantly resharpening that blade which leads to shorter overall life span, meanwhile the s35vn just needs a little strop from time to time. now if you want to smash your knife against iron rods all day long, then yeah, i guess the 8cr13 is the "better" pick, you might as well take a lead pipe or pry-bar in that case.
