    I'm wondering what you guys think about the frame-by-frame walkthrough at the end. Would you like to see more of those? If it's helpful, I can start to include that at the end of more videos.

      +Seth's Bike Hacks - The Frame by Frame is fantastic, Even more if you can do bullet time! Haha. Really really, helps... us over analytical types, haha.
      Question:
      I'm not sure if it's just my bike frame that's a little on the long side for me. As I'm not that fit to begin with (understatement) so it may just be me.
      The Issue, Is I can get my front wheel to Pop-up. But It drops down too fast and feels heavy. So I'm unable to pull it up to my waist. The only way so far that gave me some results in regards to hopping my bike, Is with the help of speed bumps to give that extra pre-load.
      Even then, I can still feel my lack of control "finesse".
      I try to push as far back as I can, but my Thighs get in the way, and hook up to my saddle, haha. I get the idea that it should be way down low, but on a regular trail ride, stopping to drop it down, is a bit meh. Especially on emergencies.

    • @andrewnorris5415
      @andrewnorris5415 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Simon Kendrick So don't pull the front wheel up from the bars, instead move your body back and then lock your arms to lift the front wheel. this keeps the front wheel up longer as your weight will be more back.

    • @SethsBikeHacks
      @SethsBikeHacks  9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Andrew is right, you need to pull back as far as you can with your arms straight before you start pulling the bars up.

    • @DaemonCross
      @DaemonCross 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yeah,thats my other issue. I move as far back as I could, but my Thighs get in the way, Ahaha.
      I wanted to have some manualing skill I can use on on emergencies at the time when I couldn't drop the seat down.
      So I take it, that as long as I don't drop my seat, Manualing and hopping is gonna be epic hard for a guy with thick legs? haha.

    Hello, Seth.
    Thank you for the video! It's very helpful.
    I know you have lots of experience, but I think it would be very good for you to wear at least a helmet while filming these videos. You're trying to get newbies to develop some very helpful skills, but many of them disregard the importance of safety gear, and seeing you without it might reinforce negative habits. Lead by example, you know?
    Thank you for your time. Keep up the great work!

    I have never learned how to american bunny hop... I have trying and failing. I watched this video, and the meerkat video, and about 3 of the others. I have been practicing for 2 days, and now I am finally getting some good lift most every time. I would say between 1 and 2 feet. A huge improvement! Thanks Seth.

  • @soulzerosix
    @soulzerosix 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Congrats on the videos, they're very thorough and a good help for both newbies and more experienced riders. I really liked that you are using an entry level, off the shelf hardtail for the videos. It just proves that skills are more important than equipment (although a half decent bike is appreciated on the trail).
    What I don't like is the absence of a helmet and the "do as I preach, not as I do" disclaimer. Yes, some of us are adults, we are responsible for our own safety and take our own risks, but the combination mentioned above just doesn't work for me.
    Keep it up, but please consider using a lid.

    by the way. I noticed one thing that hurt my bunnyhop was that instead of pulling up my front wheel by leaning back. I pulled up the front wheel by bending my arms and bringing it up to my chest. This actually hurt a lot of a my bikes skill so what you need to make sure to learn that you have to lean your weigh back and only bend your arms a little. that way you have more control and space to move the bike around under you.

      +Piotr Sulej - As much as I want to say congrats, if you achieve bunny hopping by "pulling" your back wheel up works but is not considered as good technique as weight transfer that lifts the back wheel.

      Yeah I mean, I go up and down like every 2 years and it's really not that hard to lose weight if you do something fun. The first time I did swimming, then cycling and running, really anything works( although going from 70kg to 100kg and back three times now left me with some weird looking stretch marks)

    I know I'm late as hell to this video, but this is great. I'm working with a heavy mountain bike so this has been difficult. But when you get the front wheel up high and pull the bars to your waist you're 100% right. The bike takes off on its own. I still have work to do but getting better.

  • @DazzaOnGoogle

    Excellent. That last bit really shows what is going on. My bike is older with a low stem and the front wheel likes to stay planted. It fits me well and handles great but bunny hops are hit and.miss. I have something new to try now. Good stuff. thanks.

    I had a cross country hardtail and couldn't get the bike much more than about six or eight inches off the ground. But once I switched to a bike that was more trail oriented, with steeper geometry, I found it MUCH easier to hop higher. It made a huge difference.

LUV your vids! Slo Mo really helps! Best on YT. I see that I'm not preloading enough or correctly and I need to lower my seat (its at hip height). Probably should have purchased a hartail first.

    Excellent tutorial Seth my dude!
    Even without front suspension we still compress with our arms and obviously that compresses the front tire somewhat too. And with a fat bike you might need a little more pressure in the tires to ride street or on rocky ground. It gives more pop than when they're really squishy.
    291 peeps disliked this? That's about as logical as like disliking a six weeks old puppies video!
