Hi Omar. It's Robert from Wisconsin. our 69 Fairlane 500 with T5 in it and 3.70 rear gear. And we get over 20 miles to the gallon with a stroke 351 Windsor.
Omar- still watching & liking. Even saw you on Tom Cotter's "Barn Finds." This, to me, is the way to go with an old vehicle that isn't worth a crazy amount and/or you want to drive. Nice, brand new conversion kits are great, but the $7+K price tag on many is a bit hard to swallow. At a point, you have to be real with your goals & budget
Much appreciated! Yes you are correct, there has to be a point to where I have to set a goal and budget. Or else these projects will spiral out of control haha. I think for now the T5 and 289 will make this car a solid driver. Later on I plan to upgrade the engine and transmission to the TKX
I had a T5 "world class" in an '88 camaro I once had. Really liked that transmission. Power output would have been the same as the 289 you have, and I dogged it pretty hard and it always held up.
You never know where you are going to find these treasures. Just today I took my wife to an antique store not really expecting to find anything except overpriced junk but of all places I end up finding a beautiful horn ring with the Mercury man in the center out of what I believe to be a 63 Comet. Now I don’t have a comet but for the price I figured I could use it on my 67 F100 😂
Score!!! I’m putting a V6 T5 in my 302 maverick. I plan to use the mid 70s 306 flywheel. It’s 28 ounce with 164 teeth. It lines up with the stock clutch.
Nice find. Watched the previous vid and I knew immediately when you showed it you were gonna get it 😉. That's the box I should have gotten for my car but I got über clever and purchased the muscle car 5 from McLeod which was a BIG mistake. One thing you ought to consider is moving the shifter location forwards which I believe is possible if you change to an S10 tailshaft housing, which may or may not be easy to find even in Cali (do a search on those, there are a number of forum posts out there). That, or there's an MDL kit which uses a rod backwards from the top cover plate back to the original shifter position. The reason you want to do this is that according to my understanding where the Mustang shifter sits is more or less where the transverse floor brace is, so you'll have to cut it and lose strength (you could deal with that by connecting the sills above the floor but it's a pain). Also if you have a bench seat the rear shifter location won't work I believe as it interferes with the seat. Good luck.
Thanks for the info, yes I’ve heard of the s10 tail shaft housing to get the shifter in the original place. I might just put the shifter where the brace is and reinforce it. I will see when I put the whole floor in
Hi Omar I watched your latest video on Hagerty. There is a TH-cam channel called Lykins Motorsports he specializes in building ford FE engines. Eddie Patterson, Silverstreet South Carolina.
Hey omar that was a good find with the t5 also i love the comet i had one back in the day its a great little car , i myself would check to make sure that the shifting fork is in good shape while its out of the car , good luck and thanks for sharing your video
Make sure it is the same as the 5.0 302 version, there are differences. Input shaft length and spline count vary. There should be a tag on the transmission, run that and see if it’s v8 compatible.
G force transmissions sell a kit with new heavy duty gear sets and mainshaft and input shaft that will give it a 600 HP 500 ft lbs rating in a 3300lbs car on drag radials. Super simple to install. Not cheap, but not too bad considering what a Tremec TKX costs. I have one and it works great.
I'm pretty sure to use that transmission you will need to get a V8 bellhousing and V8 Fox body style input shaft the sn95 Mustang 3.8 T5 had a longer input shaft
Yes the 3.8L has the same bellhousing pattern. The same with the 93 thunderbird AOD that I installed. The only thing now is to check the input shaft, flywheel, and all that to make sure it all meshes correctly

Wow very cool Robert! I’m excited to get started on this project
And it will run a high 12 sec quarter mile.So it's not like it's slow
I have a 78 F150 with the 302. Do you know if this transmission would bolt up to mine? 20mpg sounds like something I could only dream about
Congrats on the Hagerty special. Can’t wait to see that comet complete.
Much appreciated!!
Nice to have friends like Bobby!
Definitely!
Nice find Omar! That bell housing can be welded up pretty easily.
Thanks, yes I think that’s an easy fix!
Congrats, you finally found what you have been looking for 😊
Iam running a T5 in my 68 C10 truck, great transmission, you made a great choice!!!!!
Very cool! I love that these transmissions came in a lot of cars. Just proves they are good to use for these swaps

You can not complain about those prices !! Huge score.
Agreed!!
Dude that Comet is gonna fly!
Fly to the moon!
Great score! Sounds like a good plan for the Comet😁👍
Yes! I think it will be a good combo. I’m thinking of beefing up the T5 a bit and letting her rip
Great job on the removal, lads. Bobby really is a beast! Looking forward to seeing more on the Cyclone.
More to come!
🎉great score!
Agreed!

Haha that’s awesome, I hope to do some mild upgrades on it for road racing !

Awesome!
🇺🇸👍 The T-5 was a great find. Overdrives are great in old gas guzzlers .
Definitely!

Interesting! I will have to do more research on the swap to make sure everything meshes correctly
I knew you couldn't leave that T-5 there. Good move perfect for your comet. I think a manual trans is only $125. at the pic a part in Detroit.
Haha oh man that’s a great price. I’d take them all for $125!
I've got a t5 in my mercury comet. It's great.
Very cool! I can’t wait to do the swap!
Gotta love CA - you are saving the planet recycling parts and they charge you an environmental fee for that.......
Haha yes definitely ironic
Nice snag!
Agreed!!

Much appreciated! Yes I’ve seen Brent lykins videos, he’s got some very good info
Video by Omar "Boom Boom" Ramirez!
Hahaha yes!
Omar I would have taken the starter center plate that goes behind the flywheel.
Yes I should have!
I think that Sleeperdude here on TH-cam recently put a T5 in a 1964 Ford Country Sedan. His video might help out a little bit.

Thanks I’ll be checking out his channel!
@OmarRamirezGalaxie Thank you for responding! I am absolutely sure that you will find the video that I mentioned worthwhile.

Thanks for the info Terry! Much appreciated, I think this T5 will make it a much better driver

Very cool much appreciated, just looked into it. Looks like this is the way to go.

Yes I will have to do some research. I believe they sell an adapter plate that makes it so I can use the original bellhousing from the comet
Always thought that era Comet and Falcon were already pretty light. Like well under 3k lbs. Interesting to see how light it is after the "diet".
Yes I’ll be weighing the car, I’ve got all the fiberglass stuff so we’ll see what the final weight is
Omar the damage on the bell housing is an easy fix with some JB Weld.
I was thinking about that. I also have an aluminum spool gun, but I think the JB weld is much easier haha
The t5 from a 6 cylinder will fit right on the V8?
Yes the 3.8L has the same bellhousing pattern. The same with the 93 thunderbird AOD that I installed. The only thing now is to check the input shaft, flywheel, and all that to make sure it all meshes correctly
@@OmarRamirezGalaxie Can you use it as is or do you have to hook up the sensors the transmission has?
Score!
Try replacing that socket with a trip to your local pawnshop
What about the tail shaft yoke from the T-5?
I’ll be grabbing an aluminum driveshaft from the junkyard as well and shortening it with the correct U joints!
You can use the T-5 from the 3.8 ( it’s a World Class) you should still use a 5.0 bellhousing ( flywheels are different)
Yes I will have to do more research. I believe there’s a bellhousing plate that allows me to use the original bellhousing. We will see
Nicccceeeee👊🏾
will just slap it in Omar or do a rebuild?
I might just do a rebuild to get it beefed up. I’d rather install it once and be done with it.
I know it’s a touchy subject but do you got any galaxie content coming anytime soon?
No worries! The galaxie will be the priority now. Expect more videos soon!!
