It's obvious that this was a marketing move, designed to give you a ton of publicity. But had he failed to win his 35th stage, the publicity wouldn't have been nearly what it has been. No other teams were scrambling to give Mark a contract and build an entire team around a 39 year old sprinter. So genius move on your part that paid off wonderfully, because you and Cav both gave cycling a huge shot in the arm. Well done!
That '39 year old' sprinter still has the skills, the dedication, the power and the talent to beat any sprinter half his age and will do for quite a few years to come.

Let's be realistic my friend, Cav is the greatest sprinter ever, and he looked amazing at the end on the stage he won this year, but he hasn't been close in any other stage and his career is over after this year. He'll most likely retire after the Tour. What else does he have to prove? Risk his health on some meaningless sprint in La Vuelta? Not hardly. When this race is over, so is his career, and I wish him well.
That image of him winning with his arms in the air will become iconic His jersey should have said Quickstep , it could have said INEOS, but it will now forever be Astana because they believed in each other 😊
@@richardhyde8419 Echoing these comments, started watching Cavendish and Renshaw back in the HTC days and for Astana to have faith in him to achieve this goal, when others had doubted, the sight of Cavendish securing his 35th victory, in an Astana jersey, will indeed remain an iconic image through the years. I knew he could do it I’ve been saying it for years! Amazing effort from the entire team, especially getting Mark through the earlier stages where he was struggling. Vino is a legend too for believing he could do it when a lot of others gave up on him. Chapeau Sir Cavendish! Chapeau Astana!

I have always been a fan of Cavendish, but watching today's 9th July 2024, the team had him in the perfect position but where was he, sometimes he also needs to put the effort in ..he sits up when things don't go his way .
"WE" did it,...Not a selfish bone in his body,...Arrogance can get confused with grit and focused determination as its not a sport for shrinking violets,....Ok he may have lost his rag a couple of times along the way but anyone under that pressure and emotional stress will never be 100% nice all the time,...An inspirational cyclist and will be etched in the record books now and quite rightly so !

Cavendish was not so understanding (usual Petulant childish antics) during the stage when he suffered a mechanical problem, was hampered by a television motorbike and then briefly drafted behind his team car to return to the peloton. He was fined 200 Swiss francs, docked 15 UCI ranking points, 10 points for the green jersey competition and 40 seconds in the general classification
