The z4 wears the BMW badge but it is far from their best car even though it's a vast improvement over the disappointing z3. The Nissan while looking a little dated has a much bigger community for tuning and customising not to mention a namesake (z car) most petrol heads understand. It's cheap and plastic but good fun, it's not as nimble as its s2000 or rx8 brothers but more than makes up for it in engine performance. For the same price of a z4 you could get a tidy 350z, give it a nice exhaust, maybe some better shocks and some decent rubber and still have change, it's the one Id have... .. Just don't buy the convertible.. Especially in Orange.
Will Bo not a true petrol head huh? I'd rather have the drivers car than the "oh look at me" car, the z4m is the only real good z4 and it's too much money. So yes I'd rather have the "cheesy Datsun"
+Dave Checkley There is no "nice exhaust" for the 350z. The Z4 isn't just a poser's car, didn't you watch the video? There's another one where they test the Z4 and the Boxster, and the choice isn't so clear there either. I like the 350z (more than the 370z) and would probably own one, but if you're judging your fellow petrol heads and then dismissing BMW like that...
Eric Leippe no nice exhaust for the 350z? Are you high? Try Cobra, HKS, exoticspeed, Larini, Japspeed and loads of others. It's arguably one of the best sounding V6 engines on the planet.
***** I needed a reminder as to why I don't like the 350z's exhaust note, so I looked around youtube. Some of those aftermarket or hack setups just sound awful. You can hear the interference on some of them, I bet you can feel that flat spot in the powerband too. Nasty. By comparison, I think the Nismo one sounds pretty good. I wouldn't do it if I owned one though. I also hate the way aftermarket exhausts sound on Subarus, except for equal length headers.
Eric Leippe well considering I own a 350z with an aftermarket exhaust I can say from experience that it does not affect the way the car performs in the least, the note is deep and it compliments the V6 grumble. There is no flat spot at all.
The Z4 is lower to the ground, significantly lighter (therefore more nimble and fun), the engine is further back (more mid engine than the 350z) and it has a smooth and silky inline six.. I'm a die hard nissan fan, but the z4 is just better than the 350z convertible. The coupe is a different story.
The 3.0Si coupe is a lovely car mate I envy you! I'm picking up a Z4 3.0 roadster this weekend but you got the new 260BHP Si engine over my older 231BHP. Compared to the 350Z I think it's still a little slower in a straight line (about 0.2 seconds slower to 60 if that counts for much) but I'd take the BMW any day, better looking and just oozes class imo. Both are great cars though!
@@gtlegacy8 well, I drive one everyday and so does my buddy. Cheap and reliable and they made a lot of them so there’s tons out there with low mileage in great shape. I still see 350z often too but they’re often in rough condition or they’ve been lowered to the point of being impossible to drive
I have the 2008 3.0si, which going by the hp of the Z4 in the video is the same. I have not driven a 350z. But, I love my Z4. I used it for a daily driver for almost a year, which would not have really been possible with the newer (2009+) model - the trunk space in the 2008 and earlier is quite impressive. I've taken numerous trips from a weekend to a week and haven't been left out for luggage. Keep in mind though, it also has run-flats which some feel gives a harder ride.
No, this is an HR-powered Z. See the hood bump? The coupe is easily capable of low 5's to 60, and the roadster can hit mid 5's. I was talking more about the handling difference.
as owner of z4 3.0si, sorry but 350z value nowadays getting close to crap honda civics.. but bmw is still keeping its z4s value around $12k- $17k.. this not a single think why I bought bmw.. cmon guys, tell honestly, if you drive both of them, which one felt you in better and more safety ? I drove s2k ap2, 07 350z touring and 06 z4 3.0si.. shit honda s2k what the fuckng interior they have ? 350z ? piece of hard plastic interior, they want money for just nice exhaust sound and the engine which is exactly not powerfull than my z4 3.0si... so ?? sorry guys german goes #1 !!
uğur altunbaş Have just had an insurance payout from my z3M and so was contemplating a z4 3.0si to replace it. Someone told me to get a 350z instead and I was looking at the options. I think once you've owned a z though, there's only one way to go.
***** I owned a Z3M, I now own a Z4 3.0si. How does this disprove that I have driven the other models? I did not say that I owned them. I worked for Halliwell Jones in Chester. They are both nice but both rattle and squeak. Not a major point you might think but as an everyday driver it gets pretty irritating. I sold my 350Z and bought an Audi TT. No rattles no squeaks no fuss ;0)
Hardly - I've driven all of these cars and the S2000 was by far the worst. It's absolutely gutless below 5000rpm - there's no torque so you need to thrash the hell out of it all the time to get any sort of decent acceleration. If you're a boy racer and like revving an engine to the redline all day, fine - if you want something that's quicker and a lot nicer to drive (the S2000 is also cramped and "plasticy") then the BMW or Nissan are a hell of a lot better.
I drive a BMW Z4 3.0si coupe with an upgraded M suspension, I absolutely love it ! The BMW is just more"Adult "& sophisticated looking. And the chances of me seeing another BMW Z4 Coupe on the road is next to none, they're extremely rare unlike the 350Z.
The Z is a better car in coupe format but the Z4 was designed to be a roadster from the ground up and that is the key difference here, they're comparing them as roasters and the Z4 wins that battle, in coupe form it could well be a different matter.
Bigfush > actually the 350Z is older than the Z4. But who cares what does matter is that Fifth Gear really like the Z4, when everyone else seems to hate it
No point in having these tests since the 350z won both tests, but still lost. Pretty stupid. More performance (faster), more fun (drift/power slide better), and cost less.
The Z4's interior is really dull, my friend had one and it really was bland. I have a 350z and while the interior isnt the greatest its definitely better than the BMW's.
Eric Leippe I have a z4 e85 and my brother has a 350z and hands down the z4 is the better car and the build quality leaves the 350z for dead the 350z interior quality is on par with something french which says a lot !. Undoubtedly the 350z is faster in a straight line but other than that I don’t see why you’d choose the 350z over the z4. Even my brother is looking to change his 350z after 4 months of ownership due to the lack of quality
Clearly the 350z is the better car. More power. Killer looks, killer name, rich history, bigger community. Plus 350Z owners more likely know what they are doing compared to Z4 owners who basically buy it over the 350z for BMW "Luxury" name. Plus the nissan engine will outlast the BMW. Enough said i could go on and on.
+Kevin Hinojosa Good points, but the Z4 shares its drivetrain with the 3 series, so parts are around. It's probably not as scary to own as you think. Who cares if yuppies bought the Z4? They bought G35's, and I'd own one of those too.

shame that there is a litle price difference in finland 15-17k germans and s2k about 20-22k
The problem with the s2k is that they are not safe at all, the car is way too small for a 2000 engine so you can lose control very easily

do ya fuckin think?
