1961. I was 15 years old and a KB listener in Moravia in Cayuga County. Our 3400' longwire antenna got a good KB signal to our Hallicrafters receiver during daytime!. It was grounded during thunderstorms. At night, KB skipped in on my Zenith Wavemagnet portable 5 tube monster.
seems i can recall this statio broadcasting oldies in the early very early 2ks..then it was gone sadly seemingly forever why do great things always seem to end up thrown out and forgotten and through no fault of their own..kb was a station i could barely recieve in ct but when the the atmosphere was right i got it clear as bell..man, i sure wish radio still sounded like this..
You are right about the early 2000s. For years it was a "Top 40" station, then it went through a couple of format changes. In the early 2000s they went to Oldies playing what they did in the 1960s. It then became a liberal talk station, now it's basically all about sports gambling. The current call letters are WWKB. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and can occasionally pull it in, just like I did in the '70s. "DXing" is not as much fun as it used to be because every station plays the same syndicated crap. Back in the day, it was awesome to get out of town stations as they all had a unique sound.
