I am a father to two wonderful boys, Nicholas and Alexander. I am a bike shop owner/bike fitter/coach in San Marcos - San Elijo Hills... and Hall of Fame Ultra Cyclist - of 3 different cycling organizations.
I climbed 1,000,000 feet in 2015 in only 10 months (legitimate gain no iPhone Strava app or Elevation Correction which gives you more gain). I repeated 1M feet of climbing in 2016 and 2018 and 2019 I have also Everested 9X -- 29,029 feet in one single ride #everesting .
I currently hold the record for the shortest distance Everest in North and South America 29,200 feet in 78 miles.
I have been named a legendary Ultra Cyclist- a title I consistently work hard to live up to because of what it means in the small ultra cycling community.
I completed 2- Person Race Across America (RAAM) in 2007. I have finished the Furnace Creek 508 SOLO (508 miles 35,000 feet of climbing non-stop race) six consecutive years in 2006, 2007 (Fixed Gear) 2008, 2009, 2010 2011, then came back in 2013 (tandem) and 2014 (Tandem) 2015 (tandem) and 2017 as a Two Person Mixed setting the course record with Lori Hoechlin. A total of 11 Furnace Creek/Silver State 508 finishes with a PR of 28 hours 52 minutes. I was inducted in the Furnace Creek 508 Hall of Fame class of 2011.
I am a Trans Iowa finisher (only 57 finishers out of 250 participants in the last five years at the time). Trans-Iowa is 320 mile (course varies yearly) totally unsupported gravel race held under adventure racing format.
I have also attained Super Randonneur (200km, 300km, 400km and 600km unsupported events) multiple years. I am a cycling coach with clients ranging from endurance cyclists, competitive triathletes, and beginners just entering the sport of cycling.
And now that you read all of that - I am also just an everyday Joe, just like you. I own a bike shop work and 60 hours a week, have a family, have a coaching business and try to do ultra events on limited training time. I’ve never been a professional cyclist. I do what I do out of passion for the sport. I suffer just like you do. I get it done out of pure stubbornness, pride and perseverance.

There was a HUGE learning curve for me on this project. I was given a lot of bad advice and spent money buying parts that were not compatible. Specialized was no help at all!!
Because I struggle so much to get the correct information I just thought it can make a video about it.

I have an 09 demo. This is all super helpful for the bottom section of the headset, but how did you address the discrepancy in diameter at the top?

I don't think it's a 2009. I have a 2010 Stumpy Elite and it's a 1 1/8" straight head tube. I'd kill to have that head tube, lol. I had to scour the internet for 26er 1 1/8" steerer forks that actually have more than 120mm of travel.

I have older Klein Attitude with an 1 1/4 roxshok Judy fork. I want to upgrade to a better fork. I can't seem to find any parts or information to do this swap.

its so true though, I rode bmx for years, and never knew what this stuff was till lately for mtb. To see the crown racer puller blew my mind ha. like how they divet the fork now for the puller or flat head in it. @@SeeYouUpTheRoad

Hi I have an 2006 I think, Intense Uzzi SLX that has a 1.5" steerer tube. I like the fork on it but I would like to extend the steerer tube a couple inches but finding an extender is tough. What do you recommend?

Have a 2016-17 Cannondale Slate Gravel Lefty Bike. I'd like to use a Vecnum FreeQence Suspension Stem, but found out they only manufacture for 1" 1/8 steerer tubes (the Slate being 1.5"). Suggestions to convert 1.5" to 1"1/8? Maybe you have a video about that. Thanks, Francisco, Monterrey, México.

I’m probably never going to do a video about that. 😂 those kinds of bikes and that kind of conversion will never come through my high end road shop

I have a connondale sl4 that has a lot of meaning to be me. I just picked up a trex roscoe 9 in desert tan. So I wanna rebuild the Cannondale, it’s old sl4 Duce, I already did rims , hub’s, Cranks, bars. Etc. What I wanna do next it put a pair of air front forks. It’s a 1.5 headset factory with rock shocks from cannondale. I want to put 1.8 air forks. I just spent almost 2600$ on new Trex. What forks can I use that are reasonable, and do you know what kit I need to make the headset fit 1.8 forks. I’m in michigan if you could help. Or anyone in michigan has forks for sale please let me know. Thanks

My apologies but I’m a high end road shop. This bike was a huge PITA. I don’t do this type of work so I won’t be able to help you. I was given the wrong advice on this job and it took way too much time to get this bike done. I’m sorry I wish I knew more about MTB but I’ve created a very successful niche in high end road.

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad thanks for the honesty , I have a few newer bikes and just bought a Trex recon 9 in desert tan.
The cannondale sl4 I have is from 2011 but it’s been with me in different countries. I was able to take it with me. It has a lot of meaningful memories. It is almost all rebuilt. My plan is to do a 1.5-1.8 reducer for forks and going to do a Fox air shock or something similar. The Roscoe 9 is nice but I think I could of done better for 2600$ the color scheme caught me and I useally know better. Thanks have a great day.

Crown race puller? You mean a steak knife. What.. just tap around the thing lightly they wiggle out so easily.

You can use a butter knife all day long. I’m a bike shop doing a TH-cam video I would be crucified by the TH-cam know it alls if I used a knife or a screwdriver 😂

I have no Idera whaty you are doing here. If it 1/5 to 1/8 a child could do it and your video and tools are too complicated for a 5 minute job!

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

So easy a caveman can do it lol!
No not so much and Specialized didn't make it any easier either. I think you missed the point of the video. if you google this there is no one that has the correct information to do this conversion. Every other post and video did not apply to this particular Specialized bike. So no this was not child's play and when you watch my videos I show you the correct tools you should use not some shady maneuvers or backyard mechanic's hack job.
      Have a nice day.😀
