    I love your perspective on not dropping or quitting things. I totally agree. Obviously there are times when something is just not working, but so often I think we can look for the new shiny curriculum when really our children need to see the growth and accomplishment that comes from consistency. Keep up the good work momma!

    Just downloaded a free unit from core knowledge, and I have to say I am pretty impressed! I know I’ve looked at the site briefly before, but didn’t take the time to dig in or download anything. I was under the impression that it was free black and white worksheets without a good answer key or much explanation. Wow, was I wrong! The reader is full color, and the teacher resources are amazing. Thank you for sharing!❤😊

    I have Thriving with ADHD to start with my incoming 3rd grader this next school year. I’m so glad to hear it worked well for her! I hadn’t heard of anyone who had used it so this was helpful!

    If I had it to do over, I would totally lean into Core Knowledge in those K-3 years!

    I would love if you could make a video on resources you have found helpful educating yourself on raising a child with adhd and the resources you use to develop those executive functioning skills. I'm so glad she's had such a year of growth!

    It’s so hard to find the balance between being proactive in finding what works for your kid & pushing too hard/putting too much tension/pressure into the situation!

    I mean this to be helpful, not critical. Otoño is spelled with an ñ.
    As a person who grew up undiagnosed with adhd, I really appreciate how intentional you are with considering how that affects her learning.

      Thank you, I will point that out to my daughter the next time she is working on her flashcards.

    Hey Michelle! Does your daughter find it confusing to go from Ancient Greeks to the Civil War? It seems like such a random order of events, which has kept me from using CKLA history units.

      I can't speak to the 2nd grade units, but we have been doing 1st grade this year and I am so impressed with how seemingly unrelated units build on each other throughout the year. For example, we learned about the Code of Hammurabi and laws during the Mesopotamia/Ancient Egypt unit which then tied into the Declaration of Independence and the formation of the laws of the United States in our Revolutionary War unit. We learned about how bald eagles were endangered because of threats to their habitats in our habitat unit and then learned about how they are a symbol of the United States in the Revolutionary War unit. We studied astronomy and then learned about ancient astronomers in the Early American civilizations. I have been pleasantly surprised how closely everything is linked, and it has really helped my daughter make deep connections with what she is learning.

      @@amyp4966 I agree with the previous comment. I also find that CK builds upon itself each year. My daughter has never been confused with it. In fact I find her broad exposure has really helped her understand history when I do it with my older daughter and she joins us. The background knowledge that CK provides helps her grasp what’s going on.

      @@michellegfwe have done most of the kindergarten CKLA units and it’s so impressive how these units have stayed with both of my kids and one is not even 4 yet. What has impressed me the most is the way it makes them connect the dots. For example, we did the Native American unit and completed it all the way through. For summer we are exploring different parts of the world from build your library curriculum. Just using that knowledge from that unit made studying North America click. You can see all of the dots connecting. Amazing experience ❤we love core knowledge so much!

      @@michellegfif it helps at all, I am one of your listeners that has listened to your advice especially when it comes to core knowledge. I agree it shouldn’t be the only thing used but it’s been so useful when going over other materials that are not core knowledge.

    I really appreciate the content you create! We are about to start Ancient history soon. Just wondering if you do history chronologically?

    • @michellegf
      @michellegf  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! And yes and no to history. With CK for my 7yr old it isn’t chronological. However when we do history as a group subject that is chronological. I find that the info in CK helps my 7yr grasp the concepts better when we do history as a group. It provides a lot of background knowledge and is easier for her to understand since it’s leveled for her age.
