I cant not agree more that Daniel really showed and it's always about giving the next person the benefit of the doubt and not criticize so fast like most people now these days more than ever before , Daniel was definitely the most gritty physical 007 James Bond we had in history on screen and being a very great actor as well despite i did like the Pierce Brosmen ones too

No Time to Die is my favorite Craig flick. Simply because the ending.... When he realizes that he's infected with the nanobots and thus can never see his family again. I completely connected with him and understood his decision that he'd rather die than keep going. A thousand old yeller death scenes couldn't make me cry quite like this ending did. I would never have imagined that a Bond movie could cut me so deep. Bravo EON. Bravo

Some very good takes here. Craig is actually the closest to the Bond of the books. Skyfall was so very good at so many things--dont have to insist its the GOAT--but certainly one of the top 3. It was not only great as a Bond film, but as a movie in and of itself. Themes of aging, betrayal, the harsh choices that must be made in the intelligence and statecraft areas--and the cost of those choices. All of these were both written and acted brilliantly. M being confronted with her past failures, etc., etc. And that cinemaphotography--unreal. I place Casino a bit behind SkyfallCasino. Royale worked very well as a story. Everyone here likes to post about how good looking Eva Green was in it. Don't get me wrong, she's easy on the eyes. But it's so easy as a result of that to overlook the pathos of her character and...how very well Green played it. I believed every second of what she was selling on that screen. I don;'t even known the name of the Casino Royale theme song. But I'll never forget the sound of Adele's Skyfall...

Daniel Craig is an great actor and there is no doubt about that. A fact plain and simple, and his complete body of work shows that. Personally we all have our favourite Bond actors, and that goes with our different personalities, eras we grew up in, our values and taste, expectations, etc. My favourite will likely forever be "the natural and smooth Bond", Sir Roger Moore.
Now on Craig's films, there is no doubt that they had among the best people on the world working on them, though sometimes there were some weak writing and inconsistencies here and there. The planning on where the story and characters would go, was certainly not set and it shows in the forced writing at times.
They certainly did a lot of different things, and wanted this Bond to be different to all the rest, and I respect and admire them for that.
Personally however, I don't like a (tragic) romantic Bond! One who wants to run away from the job with ladies he has "fallen" in love with. One that is so sensitive and emotional - but again, all respect to my man Craig, just wish it was not in a Bond franchise. Don't get me wrong, and as an LGBT, women and equal rights advocate myself, I certainly dislike the past thins they did with Bond "films" (here's the thing, books have their place, but the Bond films evolve). I'm just hoping that the next Bond will not follow what was done with Craig's Bond in this regard. It's done, over, let's do something different...
If they were to do yet another Bond like this, people would get bored and loose interest. There are many other ways to tell a story and portray characters, their values, etc. I hope and encourage the future writers and decision makers of the Bond films, to look into cinema and books/stories from all over the world and different genres and eras. Look at those from Buddhist+Shinto and Samurai or Ronin, ones too 😉 But that's just a personal favourite.
Bottom line - do something different. Not another sensitive, emotional, romantic-lover Bond like Craig. And likely you will not get anyone that can top the fine actor Craig at that.

After years of critics stomping and jumping up and down about Bond being the ultmate misogynist, it's refreshing to see a Bond who played it for real. Roger Moore 's Bond was the worst, leaving one to think that Moore's Bond didn't remember the woman's name when he left her bed. The character was a cad, i.e. a man who acts with deliberate disregard for another's feelings or rights. Also, Moore's Bond was too big of a ham. Too many devices for shits and giggles.
There's no reason to argue about it, we're of two minds and neither of us will convince the other. I remember as a teenager in the 1960's when I read all the Bond novels by Ian Fleming, it was all very much a "Don Draper" attitude of noblesse oblige, where "shaken, not stirred" was of the highest importance. That was in the pre-assassination, pre-Vietnam War, pre-Watergate era when the preferred manner for a gentleman to murder his assignment was with a Walther PPK with a silencer.
I lay the "campiness" of the 70's Bond movies at the feet of Cubby Broccoli, the owner of the franchise. The emphasis on more outlandish toys and gagets required even more outlandish scripts with more outlandish gags. Roger Moore was a fine actor and had played some meaty dramatic roles. I just felt he was wasted during that period as the franchise ran out of ideas as they consumed the last of Flemings' books.
Fast forward to our world after 9-11, questionable wars in the pursuit of empire disguised as "nation building" and a deepening corruption in heretofore trusted institutiions and a gritter, tougher Bond fits into his times. Shaken or stirred? "Do I look like I give a damn" is a 21st Century rebuke to the noblesse oblige of a bygone era of the post World War II period.
Craig's Bond is stripped down from Hollywood artiface of stories told with tongue-firmly-in-cheek. His Bond bleeds real blood, gets dirt on his Movie make-up and staggers out of the Casino bleeding to death after being poisoned.
Where Fleming's Bond could buzz from one flower to another like a bee full of nectar, fertilizing lush and ripe young ladies in evening gowns, Craig's Bond is a burned out assasin that bears the scars of his scrapes and injuries in a near constant and relentless battle to the death against heartless and cruel villans. How are we mere mortals to understand the psychological toil and the emotional drainage in a man that jumps from I-beam to I-beam 150 feet in the air?
Like Dylan told in the story "I was burned out from exhaustion, buried in the hail. Poisoned in the bushes an' blown out on the trail. Hunted like a crocodile, ravaged in the corn. Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm."
Who wouldn't take the chance to live... not worried that tomorrow he could die, to go native and enjoy the fruit of the vine while those wounds of body and soul could heal with a woman that gave him unconditional love?
Whether we approve or not, that visage reflects our times and makes Bond a contemporary, not a carry-over from a bygone mystery novel.
So what is really sacrificed? Very little. As we struggle against Big Brother and watch our money become more worthless every day, Miss Broccoli approved the filming because, it's all about the Benjamins.

The whole storyline is pretty uneven, the tone is very mixed and the dialouge is often not as strong as it should have been. The villain's plan is not made clear at all and there are many plot holes and incosnistencies in the characters' motivations.

Brosnan was fired because of two things: 1. He wanted more for the fifth film than the previous four put together. (Admittedly, he was a b-list movie star when he signed the original deal. He had lived up to its four-picture options, but now he was worth more.) 2. There was a misunderstanding in the press. An article featured a pull quote: "I'M SICK OF IT." In context, Brosnan was saying he was sick of TALKING ABOUT whether he would return to play James Bond again. He was NOT saying he was "sick of playing James Bond" - but that's how it was played out. Finally, he was NOT given the courtesy of a final phone call. He found out about Daniel Craig at the same time the rest of the world did.

I watched Casino Royale a few nights ago at home. Maybe because it was 15 years ago or that I am 15 years older, but Eva Green gave a subtle and sublime performance as Vesper Lind. I didn't appreciate the nuance she brought to the part in my first viewing back then; but on the second look it would be difficult to find a reason why Bond WOULDN'T fall in love with her. Up until this current viewing I didn't think much of Eva Green's acting skills even though my main memory of her was for The Dreamers, which had its blatant exposures of her in a thoroughly schizophrenic story.
The Daniel Craig era of the genre is the most sophisticated and thoughtful presentation of the series. I started off as a teenager in awe of Sean Connery who will always be "Bond" to me. Daniel Craig is the "authentic 007" without the wizardry and the banal humor of Roger Moore or the overt good looks of Pierce Bronsan, who I enjoyed as Bond and as an actor in general.
Pairing Eva Green and then Léa Seydoux as the two memorable "Bond girls" to Daniel Craig balanced the scale. Their alluring femininity and Craig's gritty masculinity were evenly matched for believable and realistic romances. Craig's interpretation of Bond will remain a classic and he will be sorely missed. Miss Broccoli has a big challenge to top his work. The bar is set very high.

Madeline? Nah. I’m still not convinced that the character Bond would fall in love with her. Or maybe the actress was miscast.

    • @gmb858
      @gmb858 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@camille3083 Madeline wasn't given a lot to do in Spectre but she was given a lot in No Time to Die. Léa Seydoux brought emotion to Madeline in No Time to Die. There was no doubt she loved him. Bond found her pleasing after going off the grid with her after Spectre.
Bond never wears his emotions on his sleeves but Craig's Bond shows a lot of tenderness towards Madeline after his first brutal breakup with her. It took a bigger man to forgive Madeline that to continue to hold her accountable for the bombing. He didn't do it out of expediency but it took a love in the heart to accept her again.
Madeline's character was incomplete in Spectre; she and Bond were hot for each other but it didn't look like love. Had that been her only appearance, I would tend to agree with you.
But I think No Time to Die is the saving grace for the role of Madeline and Léa Seydoux's portrayal of her brings Léa's standing as a "Bond girl" from average at best to one of the more fully realized and engaged performances since before the Craig era. Eva Green tops out the Craig era; Léa Seydoux comes in as a strong second. .

@@gmb858 I respect your opinion but I wasn’t moved by her character. I think maybe it was miscast? I felt no chemistry, she didn’t light up the screen, the love thing felt forced, hence them adding the child to emotionally invest you (which for me, didn’t work either). I don’t think it was the script but bad chemistry. I could care less about her back story, I was more interested in paloma’s. The actors didn’t mesh well for me. This doesn't change the fact that, firstly, it's the scriptwriters' fault, and secondly, it doesn't negate the fact that the film had some good moments. Exactly I don’t know why they kept beating the Madeline dead horse when that was one of the reasons spectre was terrible. I was way more interested In Paloma and she shined way brighter than Madeline in her 10 minute screen time. Madeline had two movies…don’t get it.

Best Bond and best bond girl. Best villain etc etc. I'm old enough to fondly remember em all. This version of Bond is quite damaged which is a necessity in order to DO his insane job. It takes a toll on him but he is able to focus and do the impossible. Scotland gave us Connery and Craig, the 2 best Bonds.

Die Another Day is AWESOME!!!! Especially when you're talking about one film among a series that's already 25 films long and every film doesn't have to be exactly the same and different strengths and weaknesses can be accentuated each time and with all of that in mind not another day is a beautiful example of one film in this 25 film series that is great for what it is aside from the greatness of what all the others are unique to themselves apart from the series.

I love the action that Daniel Craig brought to the Bond series. The only problem I had with Quamtum was not the Borne like fighting- I loved it- but it was the “jumbo of action shots” that were cut and pasted way too short and fast so the action scenes were impossible to enjoy. That was the only reason I didn’t enjoy Quantum as much as the other Craig films.

Ugh. For the millionth time. The interviewer asked about the possibility of filming TWO Bond movies, simultaneously, back to back, in the future. (counts on fingers: one, TWO). In explaining how drained he was after filming one (1) Bond film, he said "I WOULD RATHER SLASH MY WRISTS - AT... THE... MOMENT... - because filming ONE (1) Bond film took so much out of me that I cannot contemplate the possibility of doing two (2) at a time." I repeat: the quote was about doing TWO IN A ROW in the future ... it was not ... about ... doing ... ONE ... at ... a ... time.

Dalton's last Bond was a good movie but he should have done another. He was contracted for 3.

  • @nicholasolsen3360

Also! I was thinking about this…
Christoph Waltz is one of the most talented actors in Hollywood. He speaks multiple languages, he can play a vast role of different memorable characters that are amazing (King Schultz in Django Unchained and Hans Landa in Inglorious Bastards / Basterds, I’ve seen it written both ways).
Maybe they should have had Quentin come in and just do a LITTLE bit of writing for his character! Anytime Waltz was in a Tarantino role, he always played such a memorable character.
In the Craig’s Bond films, he’s just kind of… Bland. Still a great actor, still does a good performance. However, I really think in the same way Pierce Brosnan didn’t get a fair shot in some degree, I think Christoph Waltz falls into the same category.
    Anybody agree or disagree?

Jack Lord might be my favourite Felix, but Jeffrey Wright is a close second. Wright finally, mercifully, brought the cool back to Felix. He’s Bond’s equal, not lame. Jack Wade was interesting but still pretty goofy. But I guess with Brosnan, they didn’t want a guy who would overshadow him. I mean, we’re talking about Remington Steele here. Daniel Craig brought us back to the novels for the first time since Timothy Dalton. Casino and Skyfall were very Flemingesque. FRWL, TLD, CR and Skyfall all have relatively the same tone, a spy thriller. Just different eras. That’s the perfect tone for a Bond film. Not too goofy, with a bit of comic relief that doesn’t take you out of the movie. It’s James Bond, not Austin Powers. Die Another Day could have starred Mike Myers and probably would have improved it. I wish Sean Bean was cast as Bond for Goldeneye if not Dalton. A guy who looks like a spy. Not a comic book character. And as a Canadian, I will always love Lois Maxwell, but Naomie Harris was an excellent 21st century Moneypenny. If you want to see a sexist Bond acting like he did in the 60s, there are the Connery films. It’s 2022. Bond has always been a man of his time. Get over it. If you want a me too Bond, watch Goldeneye. That’s your movie.

In Dr. No, Peter Burton was not Richard Burton’s brother! Richard Burton came from a family of 13 kids called ‘Jenkins’ not Burton! Peter Burton didn’t have any siblings and was an Englishman born in Bromley in Kent whereas Richard Burton (Jenkins) was born in Wales!
Has anyone noticed that Michael G. Wilson starts doing cameo appearances, a bit like Hitchcock, at a certain time! In fact he starts doing cameo appearances as far back as The Spy Who Loved me but he would in fact have appeared as a soldier, then only 21 fresh out of college, in Goldfinger! Rewatch the movie and look for him! In fact rewatch ALL the movies and look for him right up until No Time To Die where he appears as a marine commander in the SPECTRE birthday party in Cuba!
In Casino Royal, does anyone notice Chinese Actress Tsai Chin at the poker table! See it again then rewatch You Only Live Twice and note the pre-title scene when James Bond (Sean Connery) is in bed with the Chinese girl who’ll push a button sending the bed into the wall as nasties break in and shoot at it! Well, THAT Bond girl was Tsai Chin who is not only an actress but also an author a director and a drama teacher! She did a lot in her career!
Not all Bond movies were over 2 hours! Dr. No and Goldfinger were each one hour and 50 minutes!
Into SPECTRE after Skyfall you talk of Sam Mendes and John Glenn making two Bond movie back to back but you forget Terence Young, Guy Hamilton and even Lewis Gilbert who ALL did at least TWO Bond films back to back!
Concerning No Time To Die and the death of James Bond, actually Ian Fleming being fed up of his character in From Russia With Love in fact kills off his hero at the end of that book! BUT!!!! He brings him back in Dr. No a year later - Yes, the book Dr. No comes out AFTER From Russia With Love and not the other way round as in the movies - when a certain Geoffrey Boothroyd writes to Fleming telling him that Bond’s Beretta is ridiculous for such an agent and he should in-fact use a Walther PPK! Which Fleming takes note of and is also installed in the movie Dr. No when M tells Bond he was away for 6 months but not saying why! Those who have read the books know why! Anyway, all that to say that Bond can die a thousand deaths and still come back as a fictional character! After all, he never ages, not like the actors who play him, does he!
Well, to Chris Bumbray, I watched your entire series of James Bond revisited including the out of the franchise ones and I think they’re great! You did make one or two mistakes but that’s forgivable, you can’t know everything! I thank you again and congratulate you for these videos! Hope to see more of them soon!
