Ana de Armas...absolutely and without discussion, the best part of the movie. Her banter and chemistry with Daniel Craig was solid gold. She was smart, charming, capable, kicked more ass than Bond in her (unfortunately) one and only scene, and is (IMO) THE most gorgeous Bond girl in the history of the franchise.

I enjoyed this movie. Wasn’t crazy about it, but I still enjoyed it. I feel like everyone either loves or hates this movie. It just falls in the middle for me amongst all the Bond films. I just felt sad that he died because Craig’s Bond never really got a good life so he’s a tragic character that never got that much happiness.

Only because they ( Craig and the producers ) wanted him to die...
They could have given him the happy ending/retirement/family life that he rightfully deserved instead of being lazy and kill him off just like that...
Not to mention that I was so out of character for him to simply give up like that...
Hell, if I had been in his place I wouldn't have given up on life, a treatment...Even if it had taken years...
But anyway...I wasn't in charge of this movie, so...

I actually think the movie would be better if it had been 10-15 minutes longer to give Safin more time to explain himself and his plan. They focused too much on his relationship with Madeleine, which was a bit unlogical at some points. But especially in the first scene and when Safin meets Madeleine in her London office, he's actually really good.
The movie has a solid story imo, it was not too long in any way because there was really much going on, pace was good.

Enjoyed the "James Bond Revisited" series and was happy to see a detailed, balanced look at the final Craig movie. I liked this movie fine: the 2h43m running time flew by and I was able to overlook plot holes and vague villains (hey, it's a James Bond movie, after all) in favour of some decent storytelling. Craig's acting here is terrific as his character has evolved from 'blunt instrument' to haunted killer to, finally, some sort of peace. Supporting characters were good and the 'Scooby gang' didn't get in the way of Bond's journey. I would have been comfortable with Madeleine and James continuing to be estranged from each other but realizing their connection would be through their daughter. At least they gave Seydoux more to do here than in SPECTRE. The locations were beautifully shot and the set pieces were exciting. This isn't Shakespeare but neither is it an empty action flick. Expectations are always high but I'd put this solidly in the middle of Craig's era.
The passion that NTTD has evoked (comments below) is an indication of the resonance of the James Bond franchise. I look forward to further instalments and, of course, more thoughtful analysis from JoBlo!

While a fan of it, it wasn't that great. Considering the problems they had with the rights to spectre and blofeld, they retconned some things from the previous movies and did an admirable job and probably the best they could considering that and other issues they had during production.
I personally have it ahead of quantum of solace but behind the rest of the Craig films. That considered Imo the craig bond films are easily the most consistently good to great of the bond films.

I've really enjoyed this series of retrospectives and feel this channel has done a wonderful job at it.
No Time To Die was just as good as I hoped it would be after the mixed feelings I had over Spectre (which is only slightly better on multiple viewings).
Rating the Craig era films is pretty straightforward.

This has been a great series. My own thoughts on the film echo yours, largely, barring Ms. Waller-Bridge. I was in absolute fury when I saw the end of the film but now, in hindsight, I see it as more of Daniel Craig's fit of pique than anything else. And Ana De Armas absolutely stole the movie, not just because she was easy on the eye.

I have nothing against Ana De Armas, but she did not need to be in the movie. I remember thinking why she was there because she’s only in 1 part and is never seen or heard from again. It would make more narrative sense if Jeffrey Wright filled her part, since he came to Jamaica to explain the mission. Also, it makes his death more impactful, since he would have had more screen time

    • @caseykod4406

She absolutely didn't need to be there for the plot, but I also think that she did - undeniably - steal the show; to the point where her inclusion and the way that Bond interacted with her did add something to the overall experience. That fight scene is the one that I keep coming back to from this movie and her performance is up with the score as my favorite aspects. However, if this was a novel or a screenplay I probably wouldn't have remembered her character was there.

It's the death of Daniel Craig's Bond, a Bond story told but him through 5 movies, which started with the best Bond movies there's ever been and maybe will be, Casino Royal (2007)
I also see it as the death of _my_ James Bond, the one I've been watching several different actors play over my 40 years.
And I see it as the end of the contemporary Bond, always set in the year it was released, all the Bonds were not period pieces.
    So Craig's gone.
The original Bond of 25 movies is gone
And the Bond that Flemming and the Broccolis is gone.
They cannot undo this, if they tried it would be the perma-death of Bond.
No no, what they _MUST_ do now is create an all new Bond, a period piece, set in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War.
    Start the story anew.
    There's 12 Flemming Bond books.
Tell those stories and I don't mean the screenplays that came from them.

Christian Bale's Batman kinda-sorta died/disappeared/quit at the end of The Dark Knight Rises. But through the magic of rebooting, the bat suit was worn again by Ben Affleck in a new incarnation that was current and relevant. Not some gimmicky period piece that tells another generation that James Bond is nostalgic and from the past, not modern. So Bond's death can be undone (or forgotten) when there are millions like myself who will shell out money for new 007. Especially a revamped James Bond that will be, unlike the Craig era, fun!

I wish most franchises are like James bond. Each film are their own story and episodic. It never forgets the kind of entertainment its supposed to be; a Spy action movie. So many other shows, games and movies like Star wars, Marvel, Destiny, and even Red vs. Blue (that went from a simple comedy show to a complicated drama); all feel the need to connect every single piece to the beginning, that it becomes exhausting after a while. No one is complaining that James Bond should go back to its roots because it has never left it. If you want cheesy one liners go see Connery or Moore. If you want grit and drama, check out Craig or Dalton.

Wonderful revisit to a great movie! The individual moments are so interesting, so long as they don’t involve the villains. I was so excited during the intro when Saffin showed up only to be let down by his motivations later on. If they just added a few more lines of dialogue involving who the nanobots were targeting I think it would have gone a long way.
My only other issue was when Nomi offered up the 007 title out of left field and him accepting. If he would have told her to keep the title, or if there was a more personal moment when it was offered, I think it would have helped cement the stepping away of Craig’s Bond from 007.
Besides that I loved it! Again, great episode of a great series! Thank you for making these.

Great review. I just discovered this channel, and am very impressed. I look forward to watching all of your vids, especially the ones about the Bond movies. Although Bond films, especially the older ones, can have moments that are undeniably cringe-worthy, there is something simple and powerful about the core concepts, and I agree that this film is a good example. And Craig has become an iconic Bond. (Although, truth be told, I still thing George Lazenby should have stuck around.) Finally, thanks for pointing out that Ana de Armas was also in "Knives Out." It is a tribute to her skills as a thespian that, despite having recently seen both films, I didn't recognize her as being the same person.

Officially 1 year since I saw No Time to Die!!!
Should’ve been released this month to coincide with Casino Royale’s 15th anniversary
Had tears in my eyes by the end
A fitting conclusion for Daniel Craig as James Bond
I was never bored, the story revelations were consistently entertaining, fun action, a relevant storyline for our modern world, and I enjoyed how they bounced from each character to the next
Although I wish Ana de Armas and Jeffrey Wright were in it more as well as Christophe Waltz
But I was impressed with Rami Malek as the villain and Lashana Lynch as the first female 00 agent
Lea Seydoux as Madeleine continues holding her relationship with Bond, the glue that keeps the movie grounded making Bond feel human
The opening song by Billie Eilish provides the right amount of melancholy
Some newer story beats might've been slightly glanced over though
Still it's a bittersweet finale for this new modernized take on Ian Fleming's character
    Definitely worth the wait
Still can't believe this is the last James Bond film starring Daniel Craig
Amazing they paid tribute to the past 23 films in 2 hours and 46 min; everything from the opening titles to visual cues right down to certain line exchanges
Director Cary Fukunaga did a splendid job opening more possibilities for the franchise while also tying up dangling storylines
Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas are the best new characters
I really like Rami Malek as the villain Safin
I was in tears by the time this ended and the score by Hans Zimmer added a lot of emotional weight to it
Very happy I watched all these movies and picked up many similarities mainly On Her Majesty's Secret Service
I'll miss Craig playing this character so much...

I'm apparently in the minority but I didn't like No Time to Die or Skyfall AT ALL, and actually prefer both Quantum and Spectre over these. But yeah, Casino Royal was clearly Craig's best. On that at least I think most agree.

Honestly my biggest issue was him dying at the end. However to call it monumental is just wrong. It is hardly monumental. The movie was okay but Casino Royale is far superior. No one is taking this as the death of the character just because the character died. The issue is that James Bond doesnt die. He doesnt need to die to put in a new Bond. He was absolutely quick to womanize, just mellowed out by the end.

They did carry Judi Dench over as M from the Brosnan over to Craig despite Casino Royale being a reboot starting with Bond acquiring his 00 - so it certainly is possible they will carry over one or more of Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Ralph Fiennes. I think it's also unlikely they'll reboot with another "origin story" a la Casino Royale. I think it's more likely the next story will start with Bond in mid-career.

James Bond "died" in the books too in "You Only Live Twice" only to come back in "The Man with the Golden Gun" (it turned out he'd been captured by the Chinese) and his death here was very much a "Nobody could survive that!" death that villains come back from all the time (we saw the base Alec Trevelyan was in blow up and all he got was a slight facial scar - hell, I wouldn't have been surprised to see Dave Bautista return as he was "only" yanked out of a speeding train by his neck!)

Definitely not an 8.5 for me but you argued the case well enough. I would say a 6 or a 7. I want my Bond films to be popcorn flicks. This one went too deep in some places and in other places not deep enough. It felt like 3 different films mashed together with very little to balance them. The action WAS on point but the villains were a massive let down, the bond girls, except Ana, were as well and there are times where this didn't feel like a bond film. I know this story was actually closer in many ways to the original books, but it just lacked that something for me. I want Bond films to be fun and escapist. This focused too much on the love story but to each their own. Nothing wrong with absolutely loving this movie and I can understand why many people do. I really do hope this WAS just an experiment and they plan to go back to stand alone stories and bring back some of the classic tropes in the next incarnation. I won't hold my breath though.

Could have made an antidote?? That would have been the lazy way out of writing the script. Killing Bond made thematical sense for Craig's Bond. Craig's Bond isn't cheesy like the rest of them, always been more grounded and gritty. Watched this movie again and I like it a lot better now.
I still have my issues, especially with Safin and the other villains. It happened more than once that the villain's motivations were unclear, but this time I couldn't even understand what Safin's goal was. And he felt more creepy than actually threatening to me. Also it kinda irritates me that the first half of the movie feels way faster and more action-packed than the second half, when it should move towards the climax. Yes, there were plotholes and the action felt unrealistic - but who cares for realism in a Bond film?
Other than that, I really liked the movie.
Craig may actually be my favorite Bond, the first time Bond felt like an actual character. I'm gonna miss him and with every other Bond, I would have gone riot about the ending, but for Craig, it fits. The only problem for me is that I think that Bond went through much worse than what killed him in the end, not the right time to give up in my opinion.
However, the movie did a great job elevating the Bond-Madeleine relationship from Spectre. I still think that Vesper was the better love interest for Bond, but the couple nevertheless works in my eyes this time.
I took a liking to Nomi over the course of the movie, at first I had the impression of a toxic, arrogant 007 impostor, but she proved herself to be capable and an helpful asset. I just wish they gave her something more badass to do, like they did with Paloma. Paloma's part didn't really add anything to the story, but it was the most fun and exciting part of the movie. I'm a fan of Ana de Armas since Blade Runner 2049 and I hope to see more from her in the future.
No Time to Die did some things different than other Bond movies, it took risks and in my opinion it paid off - nowhere perfect, but I wasn't actually bored a second.

Gave it a watch last night, was pretty well what I expected from a Craig era outing; good action, production values but take itself so seriously that it becomes a bit of a chore to watch especially with the longer run time. And Waltz’s Blofeld tries so hard to be menacing but comes across unintentionally hilarious. Lynch was good though, I liked the competitive relationship between her and Bond.
