It helps when an artist grows up and starts writing their own stuff. It is also better when a Swedish artist writes and sings in Swedish in my oppinion.
Melodifestivalen stopped using a live orchestra in 2001. This was part of a larger modernization of the contest, and since then the music has been played as pre-recorded backgrounds. The last time a live orchestra was used was in the contest in 2000. The decision to remove the orchestra was made to save costs and adapt the contest to the development of the international Eurovision Song Contest, where live orchestras had also been phased out earlier.
Agreed! A lot of the songs are better in Swedish just because it sounds more natural to the actual singer. This isn't criticism.. You can actually hear that English doesn't come naturally to some people and there is nothing inherently wrong with that. But it does somewhat disrupt the smoothness of the live delivery when the singer is struggling with foreign sounds their mouths have trouble making. Tusen och en natt.. Vindarna viskar mitt namn. Evighet.. Before they only translated parts into English.. If they actually won.. But it did give English speaking countries a somewhat unfair advantage in the final being the preferred Lingua Franca of our time..
The one singeng sattelit was just as god as Björn Borg at tennis. He also wrote his first song when he was young and got to preform it i TV. A lot of y oung girls was in love with him.

A swedish saying is "att snubbla på målsnöret" that means "tripping on the finishing line". Basically, you were so close to the goal but didn't reach. That's how I feel about the early winners who didn't get to perform in Eurovision despite winning Melodifestivalen. 🥲

In the beginning Melodifestivalen had two different artist preforming the same song to compaire who sounded best of them.
