Many thanks for testing the lens in the field, Samuel! I like the pictures of the couple sitting on the bench the best! When I tried the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 I had two big problems with it: 1: The zoom ring is very forward on the lens and you have to rotate it in a different direction than usual (it takes some time to get used to it)! I think this makes it less stable to hold compared to the sony 70-200. It would also be much better suited to the sport designation,if the opposite zoom ring could at least be used to change focal length quickly (and too much twisting compared to a tamron or sony). 2: I don't understand the lens hood, why it had to be screw on style. It's harder to unscrew and it gets in the way and even covers out of the zoom ring when you have to put it on. How did you feel even compared to the 35-150 the focus ring is very forward isn't it? Personally I will wait until the hype dies down then when the price drops a bit I will decide whether to buy this or the tamron 70-180mm g2.
Got this lens as my first real upgrade, the only other lens I had was the kit and the 85 f1.8.. I tell ya I love this lens. It is amazing. Now I’d like to upgrade from a73 to a74 eventually.
I was visiting London (I'm from Belgium) and I think that I saw you this night taking pictures through a phone booth in Chinatown! I wasn't sure if it was you or not and it felt very surprising to encounter you as I was just there for two days haha Great video!
Niiiiice !!! Would you choose this lens over Sonys ? The images look sharp and the edits are on point 👌🏼 was nice to see some of the presets popping up for certain photos too.
Hey Samuel! Do you think the canon 6D would somewhat work for street photography? I'm not THAT into street photography, mainly astro and landscape but it's probably the camera I'm going to get eventually. Or would you say it depends on the lens?
I often use longer focal lengths in street work as well. I'm surprised that more TH-camrs don't refer to the observation principle more often when discussing longer focal lengths and street work. Going all the way back to the first American TV show that followed the life of the "average American family" there has been a huge correlation between people being watched and how it affects their actual behavior. I know that longer focal lengths seem like sniping, but if you truly want people to act naturally, they shouldn't know they are being photographed. So I'll often take the shot and then show them the result afterwards.
You said the lens is super light. I suppose you are comparing it with the Sony 70-200 GM i. Compared with the Sony 70-200 GM ii, the Sigma is quite a bit heavier. Have you tried the Sony 70-200 GM ii or do you intend to?
I’m comparing it to the lenses I use, I felt the mkii and thought it was a similar weight. But there is a technical difference of 200g. But it felt light. Maybe I was just feeling strong that day 😂
No these are part of the 125+ preset pack I’m using super moody which is in the preset folder (the ones I use the most) I think (this is off top of my memory)
I’m doing some test / analysis to see if videos uploaded with opticalwander get more click throughs on notifications sent. It’s important for me to make sure I do what’s best for the channel long run and in order to make that conclusion I have to see what works best. Ideally I want Samuel bassett to be a part of the name but I also need to understand the brand has been built around opticalwander. It didn’t sit right with me when I committed to the change at heart and it’s important to recognise mistakes and move on. Fundamentally the name doesn’t matter. The content does. So as long as I keep doing what I enjoy then, the name won’t matter.
@@Opticalwander I’ll keep watching no matter what. I think it was just so early on in the name change process that maybe some people didn’t link the two together. When I first saw it pop up Samuel Bassett I was like who is this at first then it clicked. I’m cool with either name just thought I missed something. Best of luck either way.
That shot down the corridor really was the one of the night for me! Such a dope shot
Thanks for wandering and listening to me waffle for a few hours! It was good to see you again dude 🙏🏼
Man those were some crisp pics, looking great as always.
Inspiring as always

I already have Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 is really amazing 🤩

Just totally flawless!
Some superb shots in there, really nice job.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Great vid! I enjoyed it. Love the shots as well. Do you use a mist filter on the lens?
Oooh, did you use any presets on the pic of the couple from behind? I love it!
Yeah super moody vibes then made adjustments accordingly 🙏🏼

Great video!
this lens is so tempting :)
Thanks for this. Very awesome ❤

I would definitely choose this over the Sonys, especially comparing brand new price and the weight vs the song 70/200 mk1

Honestly it’s the lens that’s the most important 🙏🏼📸
@@Opticalwander Alright that’s what I thought, thanks a lot man!

So tempting...
It’s such a good lens for the price!!
What RAW file type do you short in at night- (comp, uncomp, lossless comp)?
sickkkk lens

@imdigitalmedia negligible, improvement vs price for me isn’t worth it. Weight saving vs price yes it’s possibly worth it.
Is it new Sigma Sport version?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sam, are these new presets? or are they in the Retro pack ?
No these are part of the 125+ preset pack I’m using super moody which is in the preset folder (the ones I use the most) I think (this is off top of my memory)
@@Opticalwander Cheers
What would u recommend as the best lens for street photography with the canon 80D?
Probably a 35mm or 50mm would be a good lens.
Nice video
need more japan content
Like the shots but I'm not a fan of the blue headlights in the video and on the edits, just my opinion though!
That’s fair and understand, it was a creative style choice. Granted, not for everyone.
@Opticalwander that's fair, I just think blue headlights on a car etc isn't realistic and doesn't look right in my opinion
So the name is back?

worth it compared to Sony gm 70-200?
I think so. I’ve used both and I’d take this.
