Call in sometime if you can safely do so. Either to AxP or Talk Heathen. While your situation has been brought up by other callers, it's quite infrequent (because of time difference, technical issues or otherwise), and bears repeating.
Yep, really sad that you have such a large community of Atheists who have absolutely no hope whatsoever in your miserable day to day existence . Because that is all you are doing, merely existing!
These two right here are my favorite Duo of hosts currently in rotation on any of these shows. Dave is the perfect yin to Matt's yang. Calm and heartwarmingly caring, able to boil big complex topics down into everyday speak that we are able to understand and argue about. Whereas Matt is razor sharp, unforgiving and able to chainsaw through to the heart of any discussion to get to the truth and usually bullshit of any claim being made. I love both of their Styles and I always love seeing these guys together. It's magical.
@@sandersson2813 yeah, I agree he is one of the better co-hosts, however, I don't think insipid or simpering describes ANY of the hosts of any of the ACA shows.
I absolutely adore the idea that Tyler wanted the hosts to prove that there ISN'T a god based on his ridiculous premises but then got snarky and couldn't believe that the hosts dared to ask him to substantiate his belief that there IS a god. What a goofy call.
lol I love reading these comments. First off, at what point did I ask the hosts to prove that there isn't a God based on the premises that I gave? Secondly, they didn't ask me if I could present a logical proof for God's existence, they demanded it. I am in no way obligated to prove anything to anybody about anything. That is some atheistic presuppositions that have no basis in logic whatsoever. That being said, I certainly can give a logical proof for God if I want to.
@@screenwriter79 " I am in no way obligated to prove anything to anybody about anything. " You claim there is a god. The purpose of this show is for theists to call in and support their ignorance, uh, I mean arguments in favor of the existence of god. My answer to Kal’s question… you can believe what you want, but you don’t get to insulate yourself or your group who share your beliefs… you are REQUIRED to engage honestly with the conversation. Silence or agree to disagree is not an option. Stopping engaging because you don’t like how the conversation is going is not an option.
I literally stood up and clapped for Matt's response to that antivaxxer. Their views are not only stupid and dangerous, but also immoral. I weep for their innocent children.

If you have been injured from a vaccine, is it rational to become sketpical of its safety? If you got vaccinated, but still got sick and gave it to your family as well, is it rational to become skeptical of its efficacy? When you see the greed of pharmaceutical companies during a pandemic, is it rational to question their good faith? When government infringe your human right of bodily autonomy, is it rational to question whether you truly live in a democracy? You talk about wanting the truth, but then go on to spout EASILY disproven things. You did not take basic steps to ensure the accuracy of your information. When you talk about quarantining healthy people, what you curiously omit is that asymptomatic and presymptomatic spread occurs by people who otherwise appear healthy. The healthy people will get quarantined along with the people who appear healthy until it is clear which they belong to. If education is the goal, then why didn't you educate yourself? Peer reviewed papers are available *for free* online, and will state if they are government or corporate funded. 02:20 Mike, "wanted to ask whether or not putting blind faith in the claims of experts and government officials is a more reliable path to truth than blindly believing the claims of religion?" _ In all instances skepticism is the logical default position. But the former is much more reliable than the latter simply because experts and officials are not asking us to believe in magic.
He’s lost to begin with if he thinks that something is considered true only if “government experts” or “religion” says so. He’s completely dismissed a way to DEMONSTRATE what’s true in favor of faith. It’s always something when guys like Mike show they really just don’t know how to assess the world around them. Other than Google searches. Vaccines may not be 100% effective, but they sure improve one's odds. I did have a reaction to a typhoid vaccine once. I got chills for about an hour, after which they went away and I felt fine. When I was a kid, a similar thing happened after receiving a flu vaccination. That was the one and only time that ever happened to me. I urge anyone who fears vaccines to seriously reconsider.
In the uk we had an astra zenica vax. It was withdrawn quickly after problems were found with it causing clots. Over the years many meds and vaccines have been found later to be problematic. Many covid vaxs were rushed out quickly. Sure vaccines work for the most part but by no means are they without issues
The world is better, on average, than it was prior to Hitler killing 10 million people. That doesn’t mean the killing of those folks was moral. Gohan is very confused about what ‘well-being’ means or what humanism promotes. Hint: these moral systems do not promote that the ends justify the means.
He’s not confused he just doesn’t care. He has ONLY focused on himself, how he feels, and what he thinks. Lots of guys like him say something akin to “if morals are just about well being then my stealing something is for MY well-being so you can do whatever you want”. He thinks he’s the one and only concern when it comes to how to act. He doesn’t seem to realize that “humanism” is what a lot of people call the basic realization that actions have consequences and we live in a shared space. It’s an attachment to REALITY!
Regarding Jan’s call, it’s worth mentioning that different cultures intentionally adapt other cultures’ mythological figures and holidays to fit with their religion. Historical examples include the Eddas, which form the basis of our modern understanding of Norse mythology and were written by a Christian who believed that Norse gods were just alternate versions of Christian figures and reflected that in his writing. The ancient Romans adapted their local gods to be more similar to Greek gods. Ancient Greeks incorporated aspects of Mesopotamian gods into their gods. Christians changed pagan holidays into Christian holidays. And that’s just a tiny part of western mythology! Cultures didn’t independently decide that their must be a higher being. They all build off each other in a giant, messy web. Just look at the history of the goddess Aphrodite. It’s not humans innately believing in a higher power. We’re storytellers looking to explain the world.
Tribes were found in the early 20th century, all the way up to 1990 who had zero influence from outside communities. These tribes also worshipped a great God in the sky. We worked out that humans have a tendency to believe in greater things. An excellent example is: Man exists Some men are more powerful than others. Therefore a superman must exist, that is singularly more powerful than any other man. Therefore a God man must exist! This train of thought is common in humans. Whilst fears and unknowns are also reasonable candidates for backward irrational beliefs. Dawkins states: Religous beliefs are a mistaken offshoot to believing in caring for family members means they'll care for you. Thus a God must be caring for everyone. Beliefs aren't from an ever collapsing storyline to the 1st believers stories! They are merely the psychological limitations of the human species mind. Modern knowledge will set them free.
Watching this after Roe V Wade got overturned, and there is talk of doing the same to marriage equality. SCOTUS has also declared the handgun laws in NY as unconstitutional and taken away the power of the EPA to regulate carbon emissions. Sadly, Matt's optimism was misplaced.

My favorite part about the call with the first caller, the anti-vax guy, is how he tried the "let me say this before I answer the question" and Matt cut him off and said, no, answer the question first. He didn't get to go on his conspiritorial diatribe, he just got called to the mat. Then again, I will acknowledge that the caller did, in fact, answer the question honestly. Which is a lot better than most.

The consequences of there not being any physical evidence for God, is the fact that humanity has never been able to "confirm" anything about God as evidenced by countless exclusive versions of God & religion.
@Quack Epistemologist _"Empirical Evidence"_ *Testable, repeatable, reliable, quantifiable, evidence,* yes indeed, that's what I'm talking about. If religion were like science, _there would only be one religious belief system,_ and it would be taught in every country in the world. Philosophical arguments seems to be the best they can offer. And biblical prophesy is vague and almost always taken out of context. It seems "personal experience" is probably the best evidence, at least it has _convinced the most believers._ Problem, is that it is 1st person, and hearsay to everyone else, as they can't read your mind to investigate the claim directly.
@Quack Epistemologist *Only for that person* For everyone else it is only hearsay. There are hundreds of millions of Muslims that will tell you that they have a _"personal relationship"_ with Allah. And the same with Krishna or Ginesh or Jehovah, ect, ect. The vast majority of religions are exclusive, in that _if one is correct the others cannot be true._ *Therefore billions must be mistaken.* And we are not talking about the kind of relationship like we have with other humans. It is more "feeling based" rather than a direct back & forth conversation in person.
I will never understand how it is that there are so many people who are absolutely unwilling to put any faith in experts, yet they will be ruled by a collection of anonymous, dead men who wrote a book thousands of years ago.
Because they really don't have to prove anything in the book & they still get to benefit from the same science, technology etc as non believers. Most of them will go to the doctor when they get sick and then say god healed them.
I appreciate Dave jumping in every chance he gets. I'm a huge fan of Matt but if he's hosting, a lot of cohosts don't get to talk much until after the callers are hung up on. I don't think he does it on purpose. I know he's done this a long time and has heard a ton of arguments but we haven't all heard all those conversations.
I just figure he's trying to get as many voices in as quick as possible to have a good show and I like that. But there have been talks that ended before they even really began because of that format.

I really can't understand why would people ask such stupid questions and embarrass themselves, not to mention wasting people's time. I was born a muslim in an Arabic country. All religions are false , plain and simple.
35:30:00 - Matt is mistaken. The definition is perfectly compatible. The problem is, like the "possible" used on common Ontological arguments, the first statement is a bait and switch. There is never a legitimate attempt to be neutral and inquisitive, just a desire to define god into existence.
Listen, it's perfectly simple: if a god or no gods could or could not potentially be found to have created or caused to create or not created at all some or all of everything that has ever existed or never existed then it obviously can't be said that such a being would necessarily have to have existed. Therefore it logically follows that the god I choose to believe in has no other choice than to exist.

When I was a kid my mom let my grandpa watch us (me and my four sisters) while she worked a split shift. My dad wasn't around because he was addicted to meth and usually in prison. We were playing and being kids and he told us to line up for spankings. Obviously we all started crying for fear of the pain and when I asked him why he was doing it, he said, "Because god told me to punish you for being bad children." Later on he would tell us that since Jesus would let his disciples wash his feet it was a blessing to us for him to wash our feet. I remember being disgusted by how he would rub and kiss our feet, and say how beautiful they were (this was before I understood fetishes). Later in life, my mother came clean about how my grandpa had molested her and her siblings (she had seven brothers and sisters) and it floored me that she would even let him near us. Not only that, but later on I had a repressed memory surface of her touching me as a child, and we found out that she had molested my niece.. it was the final straw, I left and never looked back. They constantly used the bible, which specifically says that no matter what you do you'll be forgiven, as a loophole for their perverted agendas. When we see 1 abusive issue in home environments, they are usually accompanied by many other issues. Whilst theistic beliefs can and do cause bad actions of others, it's not the reason why not to believe. The most common reason for not believing is because the claim of a God has not met its burden of proof (i.e. No evidence). Spanking children is fully illegal now, in all civilized countries, bar Christain filled America. We worked out discipline actually means understanding the child's issue, on their level, and guiding them to a better way. The common saying throughout the world is: It's never ok to hit anyone, men, women or children.

Gohan should have tried the trolley problem to examine Matt's ethical reasoning. I'm honestly confused about how Matt applies consequentialism now, as there seems to be some importance on the immediacy of the consequences.
Well yea things are dynamic. I wouldn’t throw a brick through a store window unless someone was trying rob/harass me or my family and I did it to set the alarm off. Or something that did happen (not to me) when I was at a gas station and an older woman had low blood sugar and started to get weak. Someone grabbed a bottle of OJ and get her to drink it without paying. I’d be hard pressed to say he “stole” it because there was an emergency happening and time may have made a difference. With the trolley problem the “immediacy” isn’t there unless you impose it. Not only that it’s not a real event happening in real time unlike those situations I mentioned. Even if let’s say there’s 3 people who are going to die unless you pull it, and one person dead if you do. Would it be less ethical to say “I’m not the one who set up this situation, I’m not gonna pull the lever and knowingly kill one guy”. That’s a genuine question btw.

1:17:00 Kal's question. is such a broadly relevant and essential issue that each and every single one of us should personally consider, and periodically reconsider. Tolerance cannot be boundless, and intolerance should not be dogmatic either.
I am not certain about Karl Popper's paradox of tolerance, i.e. we should not tolerate intolerance, but where is the line? To borrow a proposition from an otherwise intellectually bankrupt intellectual: (in summary) "We know when the right goes to far. Start talking about ethnic or racial superiority and you have gone to far." (I would add religious to that.) "But when does the left go to far?"
We can tolerate the WBC saying unspeakable things because we value free speech, and we draw a line between them and the funerals of soldiers. I would know, as I was once part of that physical line, in uniform, in support of the family. We as a society, through our laws, set a place for the WBC distant from us, physically.
But the WBC is explicitly nonviolent. Not so the Proud Boys or 3 percenters, though their threats often don't pass a threshold of immediate incitement to violence. Sometimes, but not always. And on the left (not to say they are the same) it's difficult to parse "acab" from calls for police reform.
Going to an expert school to sky dive is trust through demonstrated competency Letting a stranger strap something on your back and jumping out of plane is faith.

Got my two COVID vaccinations and booster with no ill effects. I have been aware of the efficacy of vaccines since I learned about this in grade school back in the 1960s.
It’s an attachment to REALITY!
the world being better today might not be BECAUSE of Hitler being defeated
An excellent example is:
Man exists
Some men are more powerful than others.
The Roman's, for example, took the Greek mythology of gods wholeclothe and just changed the name of the gods. Aphrodite to Venus, Ares to Mars, etc.
Watching this after Roe V Wade got overturned, and there is talk of doing the same to marriage equality. SCOTUS has also declared the handgun laws in NY as unconstitutional and taken away the power of the EPA to regulate carbon emissions.

The consequences of there not being any physical evidence for God, is the fact that humanity has never been able to "confirm" anything about God as evidenced by countless exclusive versions of God & religion.
@Quack Epistemologist _"Empirical Evidence"_
*Testable, repeatable, reliable, quantifiable, evidence,* yes indeed, that's what I'm talking about.
If religion were like science, _there would only be one religious belief system,_ and it would be taught in every country in the world.
Philosophical arguments seems to be the best they can offer.
And biblical prophesy is vague and almost always taken out of context.
It seems "personal experience" is probably the best evidence, at least it has _convinced the most believers._
Problem, is that it is 1st person, and hearsay to everyone else, as they can't read your mind to investigate the claim directly.
@Quack Epistemologist *Only for that person*
For everyone else it is only hearsay.
There are hundreds of millions of Muslims that will tell you that they have a _"personal relationship"_ with Allah.
And the same with Krishna or Ginesh or Jehovah, ect, ect.
The vast majority of religions are exclusive, in that _if one is correct the others cannot be true._
*Therefore billions must be mistaken.*
And we are not talking about the kind of relationship like we have with other humans.
It is more "feeling based" rather than a direct back & forth conversation in person.
I will never understand how it is that there are so many people who are absolutely unwilling to put any faith in experts, yet they will be ruled by a collection of anonymous, dead men who wrote a book thousands of years ago.
We place reasonable trust in science proportionate to the evidence.
So far science works.

Ilove seeing Dave he's a good man being us more Dave more often
1:00:40 onward) Thanks, Dave. Needed to hear it and you picked me right up with that.
Thanks Guys! Great show today.
There is thus far, no evidence that supports the existence of a god
"Maybe all mythologies are pointing at different aspects of one bigger thing" really points to a barking mad Lovecraftian god-thing.
If all religions (or even all major religions) have part of the big picture, then the big picture is a being that's simultaneously vehemently against and enthusiastically in favor of (to name a few sticking points) war, human sacrifice, prostitution and drug use.
Calls start at 2:05

When I watch these vids and listen to these callers it makes me realise I am far more intelligent than I thought I was!
Jesus christ the first caller was obviously lost. Who is dumb enough to believe conspiracy nonsense while never looking up the actual data and then turns around and pretend ANYONE is using blind faith in science?
How can anyone not remember Gohan? He isnt the brightest and is one of those who sees his ignorance and confusion as knowledge and understanding.
The mental gymnastics theists go through to try and support their belief should be enough proof that their beliefs are rubbish. It’s pathetic!!!
18:44 A real life example: let's say not-real-life happened. Brilliant.
Universe creating pixies!!! You guys really need to make that into a shirt I would buy it!!
I really can't understand why would people ask such stupid questions and embarrass themselves, not to mention wasting people's time.
I was born a muslim in an Arabic country.
And when I turned 15, I started to question everything about religion. Where after a simple research and common sense I was able to understand the truth about all religions.
Tyler - if people need to have tortured conversations about whether god exists or not then he doesn't.
You get it! Theists try forcing a dialog, any dialog to inject superstition into.
You’d definitely think
Trying to argue a god into existence is what they're reduced to in the face of their god's continuing refusal to manifest in any demonstrable way.
@@johnholland9371 LOL.... good one.
"Birds Aren't Real" was done in gest. Its not an actual belief, but was created to mock, ridicule and as the reductio ad absurdum of the recent people believing in silly things phenomenon.
That's what they want you to believe! (just kidding...or am I???)
@@ookeekthelibrarian
_"There are real people who believe that shite."_
I don’t believe in Big Foot, I don’t believe the moon landing was fake, I believe heliocentrism is real, that biological evolution is the legitimate foundation of dozens of scientific disciplines. These "controversies" are literally too ridiculous to occupy any of the working space inside my brain cells. The purpose of my OP was to inform the atheist community what this actually is, nonsense.
So no, I’m not following any of your videos or dubious trail of investigative bread crumbs to come to some profound realization that “birds aren’t real”. Its silly. Stop it. You have evidence for these asinine, foolish contentions post it here, for any in this thread to see. Otherwise, please stop wasting my time.
When I was a kid my mom let my grandpa watch us (me and my four sisters) while she worked a split shift. My dad wasn't around because he was addicted to meth and usually in prison. We were playing and being kids and he told us to line up for spankings. Obviously we all started crying for fear of the pain and when I asked him why he was doing it, he said, "Because god told me to punish you for being bad children."
Later on he would tell us that since Jesus would let his disciples wash his feet it was a blessing to us for him to wash our feet.
It's the main reason I became agnostic, and then atheist and is the main reason I think a lot of the theist callers push their agendas, to further their skewed view of morality to save face and feelings.
That's terrible! I am very sorry to hear that this happened to you and other members of your family. I hope you find peace and that life is better now, and that those who were hurt find their healing also. I also wish that those who did wrong come to understand the nature of their actions, and seek help, isolate themselves from their evils and never do it ever again. I'd give you a hug if I could.
The common saying throughout the world is:
It's never ok to hit anyone, men, women or children.
Geez I’m so sorry for hearing that and this is why I’m an atheist bc many bad people act like they worship the all loving god who gets angry if you don’t worship him, it’s crazy that you can do whatever you want and will be forgiven for it and that’s what religion does is to (forgive?) bad people for doing bad things???!!!
@@DemstarAus I agree, but unfortunately as far as I know even my sisters let my mom explain away molesting my niece as “cleaning” her, although my niece maintains that she felt violated when it happened. Even though they are aware of what she did to me, too.
As for me I’ve led a pretty tough life because of my parents, but have never let their abuse dictate how I interact with people. Overall I am severely neurotic about who I let close, but I try my best not to be abusive to those I’m close with, even though it’s difficult with all of my anger and confusion of my past and present surroundings.
That would have been horrible to go through. I think you’re amazing. You are a very strong person. Thank you for sharing.
"You cowardly little shit!" Gohan got his ass handed to him here. lol
Great content! Thank you AxP for all you do!

One would think that AXP would run out of callers. Apparently, none listen to previous shows or if any do, with any idea that their question has been stomped-on or dissected minutely; that they need to come prepared and _know_ what their own beliefs are ... /sssmh
I was scrolling through my FB live feed and seen a picture of a church in Mayfield KY, in this picture was a destroyed church building but all the hymnals were intact, this was the heading
“Look how good god is” with a bunch of other god love crap.
It simply amazes me how human life is so easily discarded along with people’s livelihood but some books didn’t move and glory be to god….

Great Show! I think the second half went better than the first 3-4 callers.
To quote a classic, "It's an onslaught of nutters!"
Gohan should have tried the trolley problem to examine Matt's ethical reasoning. I'm honestly confused about how Matt applies consequentialism now, as there seems to be some importance on the immediacy of the consequences.
I think the trolley problem may be a little too advanced for someone who calls in with an argument from Avengers.
That’s a genuine question btw.
his other problem is that Matt thinks its okay for vaccines to be given if it saves most people despite a few people dying from side effects. Yet hes not okay under another scenario where a minority die but the masses live.
Atheism exists due to the harm theism causes. This is why a-Fairiests don't exist. Fairy believers don't cause harm.

RE: Gohan ... it seems _especially_ apt that a Catholic would try to frame his dopey argument(s) for morality in terms of a comic book.
"well they're such a small minority...who cares?" Yeah thinking like that has never lead to atrocities
Gohan has called a lot and it's always like this. He's dishonest and doesn't know the shit as nearly well as he thinks.
I love this K caller. Matt told him his definition of faith and then said he wants people who claim to have faith tell him what THEY mean sinse the bible has many different usages of faith...and K responds with... I think you shouldn't have any definition, you should let them tell you what they think...
Clearly he was listening to what Matt fukn just said 10 seconds ago.
Going to an expert school to sky dive is trust through demonstrated competency
Letting a stranger strap something on your back and jumping out of plane is faith.
