This is fairly comprehensive, you've researched this well, and I appreciate you're putting things in a positive light. It's been good to be able to share some in depth facts and figures with the community, we'll be able to do more once the title is closer to release. FYI, game engines provide a lot more than just rendering. Most engines would usually also provide audio, animation, file I/O, networking, localisation, utilities & tools, build pipelines, and some kind of visual editor.
To me, "Project Cars 3" was the spiritual successor to "Need For Speed: Shift" and "Shift 2", some of my favourite simcade racers ever. I agree it was badly marketed and that it was weirdly less realistic looking than PC2, but still a very fun racing game with just the right blend between entertainment and challenge.
@@ScaffsSimRacing NSF Shift got me back into racing games where GT5 lost me. I had loved GT4 and was so disappointed in 5, I put my Driving Force Pro away for quite a while until I discovered that game!
tbh I dont trust Bell, he has a record of not finishing games, and then moving on to the next one, plus he doesntt like negative option, A lot of us where banned from the old Project Cars forum, just for repeating asking for PC1 to be finished. However having said all that, I really love AMS2 which as we know its a PC2 based game, just supported correctly.
Reiza for president! Automobilista 1.6 is around the corner. The madness engine is in best hands. Best it has ever been. Reiza Studio does a great job! I'm not the only one saying that.
Have been quietly hyped about this title for a while. I know Ian Bell is a bit of a divisive figure in sim racing, but I think he genuinely loves making these games and wants to produce the best titles possible, he just has an eccentric personality which is probably what has served him well overall in his business too. Savvy moves in teaming up with Giants for the reasons you give. Think this can work for both parties really well and am looking forward to seeing this title hopefully by the summer of next year? Would be nice to see some gameplay footage sooner rather than later too...
'divisive' is an interesting way to describe someone who continually failed to keep their promises and dropped half-finished projects just to jump on the next iteration. Not one single entry in pcars was respectable in terms of basic features. The AI is consistently terrible, the multiplayer seemed like a complete afterthought and the consistency of simulation and general quality control was and still is incredibly low. Reiza has shown us what could have been if these iterative pcars releases weren't just cash grabs with a veneer of 'new tech' sprinkled on top.
But i loved project cars 3 because you did what the name of the game was called you brought a car you upgrade it as a project hence the old name project cars
I still play GTR2 more than anything, it just feels complete because it was focused on one style of racing and modding is so easy it hard not to mod it lol. So yea im getting this for sure, was gonna get ACC but I hear there are performance issues due to UE5 so I passed. Looks like this is gonna be the next best thing.
the original AC is still amazing and the ffb is mind blowing on any wheel base but especially if you have DD. thanks to lfm you can have iracing style competitive league racing with a decent selection of series.. if i could just get my SR out the gutter.. AC also works very well in vr for me using virtual desktop and open xr
I'm always shocked that, having PC2 on console, people still went for Gran Turismo, which is like driving a broken tractor through thick soup....much underrated games & physics engine, case in point look what Reiza has done with it in AMS2
Reiza did the long-term work and bugfixes that Ian Bell wasn't willing to do. Bell kept hyping pcars and dropped it half-finished each time to do the next half-assed iteration. Are we going to do this again with the Ian Bell charade just because Reiza is a responsible developer and showed that with time and effort they could polish the basis of pcars into something decent?
Don't know man, pc2 was very hard for me to get into. In Gran Turismo and F1, I can actually push and be as fast as I can. In pc2, I was struggling to keep the car within the track limits a lot of the time. The cars are completely unpredictable in everything they do. Braking, turning all seemingly happens at random. One time the car turns too little, the second time it turns too much with the same turning imput. One time you brake correct for a corner, next lap you brake at the same place and the car doesn't stop. And some of the cars are downright undrivable. The big positives are that it has an amazing collection of cars and tracks, and the AI is actually somewhat decent. I still play sometimes, but it really is a masochistic experience for me.
More cars? Yes. More Tracks? No. More Freedom? Not a chance, PC and PC2 are pure sandboxes, any car, any track, any ToD, any time of year, any weather for the location, far more freedom of choice.
I bet it will still have arcade fov, camera angles, reset to track, unrealistic aids, radar, etc. No one will ever make a real sim cause it won't sell enough.
@@scottnixon2462 the issue both Pcars 1 and 2 had was that some cars felt really sorted and had good ffb too, like the Ginetta Junior, and then others just didn't have the same polish
@@scottnixon2462 Re-reading my initial post and I come off like a jerk, which wasn't my intention. Sorry. But, I truly mean it when I say positive things about pCARS 2 which has always been a title that gets alot of unfair heat from the masses due to their terrible hand control history. The thing is, almost every car in pCARS 2 needs/needed work.. Like A LOT of work. Once you had the cars tuned properly then it was as good as some of the best sim programs out! I've also put in a lot of hours in the other sims too and for me as far as physics go pCARS 2, AMS2, RF2, i Racing, DR2.0 and AC are my favorites. Don't get me wrong as I love RR3! Have been in leagues and still plan to (once I finally get this damn PC built 😀.) run RR3 in the near future! It's hard to explain but the best way to explain is that (the last time I played was about 14 months ago) everything feels good but the limits feel artificial to me, if that makes sense? Like as if there's some sort of slight non-inputted correction being made for me but only at certain limits.
I strongly disagree with your opinion about Project Cars 3. PC3 was awful game. It had really good driving model BUT everything else was dogshit. Downgraded audio and visual presentation, castrated weather system, awful AI, repetitive carreer mode with dysfunctional economy, janky/inconsistent performance, copy-paste content and limited features. And no, it wasn't awful because "ooga booga you wanted sim". I love simcade games, PGR4, Shift 2 and Wreckfest are among my favourite games of all time. I am still utterly dissapointed by late Codemasters entries, my dream game atm (from already existing pieces and possible budget-wise) would be touring car racing game based on slightly modified Wreckfest physics. Project Cars 3 sounds like game that was designed specifically for my taste in racing games, yet I absolutely hated it. Also, IMO switch to simcade was right move, as both previous PC games felt short when it came to ffb and simulation in general, as there was a lot of bandaid fixes for specific cars that led to insane behaviour outside of stock setup.
All what I want is a GRID like game but much more consistent with a well structured career mode that doesn't feel boring to go throught without damage models limitations.
Ian Bell, the Peter Molyneux of driving games!
Seriously. He has very limited credibility at this point.

Agreed, same here!
I played pc2 last night and loved it!!! Love the group 4 and gto classes. Not to mention, it has great rally racing..
It still holds up really well tbh
Try Ams2

100% agree, had it been positioned right it would have been a lot better received and appreciated.

Didn't this series kinda start as Need For Speed: Shift?
Technically the story starts with GTR (2005).
The PC4 we always wanted has already been made it’s called Automobilista 2
Yeah, but console racers like me where left with nothing to play😢
@ yeah true
@ I don’t have a pc either played ams on a friends pc , changed my life
Could not care less about this, ac evo is where the hype is.
If this is real . This seems more exciting than Ac Evo
I wouldnt trust ian bell to make a taxi simulator
2:25 was AC released at that point?
Not on console I don’t think
But i loved project cars 3 because you did what the name of the game was called you brought a car you upgrade it as a project hence the old name project cars
The CARS in the name originates from 'Community Assisted Racing Simulation', as such that's the Project, building a racing sim, not a car.

this grass does not look digital.
maybe a real pic slightly edited.

never like ffb of pc 1 and 2 and even ams2 , wish that they have rf2 ffb and physics and graphics of pc2
The track list is impressive on project cars just needed better physics id say. But it should definitely make a come back. Maybe raceroom physics!
PCARS 2 w a Wheel n Pedals destroys RR3 Physics!
