I worked on that project back in the mid 90's . We moved those buildings in sections from the abandoned and closing town of Casiar. They were reassembled in Dease Lake to provide rental units for the government forestry workers that were supposed to base in Dease . The government never actually showed up and while one of the buildings was operating for a couple of years the project collapsed. Vandalism took care of the rest of it and the place was eventually condemned. There was a large concrete sign that read Stikine Gate.
wow i cant believe this showed up on my youtube feed. ty killick here. i remember you calling it' Stinkin Gate". i hope you are both doing well. we are still living on the same acreage west if edmonton. are yourslf and Maryanne still in the area?
Finally, a TH-camr that utilizes the entire fish! Getting a rich fish stock is an awesome way to get the most out of the catch, it's amazing how good it tastes with fresh fish!
Thank you thank you thank you. I watched 3 of my all-time favourite TH-cam traveling adventurers all at once. The smiles were wonderful from all of you fishing away. You made me smile 12000 km away. Love from the Philippines. ♥
As a devout fisherman i smied when you leaned over to adjust the drag. Its all the little things you capture that make for such delirious echantment. My thanks again from the flatlands of Alberta. Cheers
I don't care what anybody thinks, a beautiful day on a beautiful lake catching Northern's is about the best time in the world. Thanks for letting us tag along with you.
Every Sat morning I get my coffee and sit up in my Bed to enjoy your videos before I get my day started, Fantastic! Thank you. Too Funny my two favorite channels Dustin and Foresty, Foresty is the up high and Dustin the mid to lower views, Now that's Canada EH!
Dease Lake was home for 2 years. There was, at that time, a little more to it. A hardware store and gift shop, another restaurant or two. But it's really lost a lot of the services. The bar used to do a Friday night steak night for $10! Best steak I ever ate! The 'estate' was moved in from Cassiar when it shut down, as were some of the houses. There used to be a big office of Forestry workers, which brought in a lot of families and made it necessary to build housing, which after the office closed, sat empty for quite a few years. When I went through last fall, those houses seem to have residents. I enjoyed living in Dease Lake. Now, living more of the year in THE Yukon at our cabin, and not at our home base in southern BC, I can honestly say...northern living is the best!
The abandoned townhomes originated from the town of Cassiar. They were one building there. In 1992/93, after the mine closed, they were split into three and moved to Dease Lake. Only one section, the one on your right, is lived in. They were so expensive to heat and maintain that none could be rented. There are many homes in the area from Cassiar. Great video 🤙
I thought that they looked familiar, they were stained a brown color when I stayed with my cousin and her husband in Cassiar for a couple of weeks before I got a job working in the lumber mill in Watson Lake YT back in the late 80's.
From this video and any time I've visited in recent years, I'm pretty sure even the right side is a lost cause now. But I definitely do remember at least 2 units being occupied sometime between 2003-2008. Family of a childhood friend lived in one briefly, I think the father was a doctor.
Wow what a beautiful fishing trip.Emi is the master at catching the big ones.Soup looks awesome.A beautiful journey all together.Greetings from Alberta
Great Job Dustin! Great video! at 08:33 that water was just Beautiful! and the fishing, was Great! Watching Emi land some monsters was Priceless! also Great memories! Loved the music throughout the video, especially during the fishing! Dustin, you and Emi stay safe, and looking forward to your next video!
I’ve fished Northern Pike for nearly 70 years. Once you’ve hooked into a large Pike you are ruined for any other kind of fishing. Although I have to admit a Muskie ranks right up there with the Northern. Most people pass on Pike fishing because of the Y-bones. However if you know how to fillet them correctly the bones are avoided. Without a doubt this has been one of your best Destination Adventure episodes.
I remember ice fishing for Northern pike in Alberta way back when and some of them we couldn’t pull up through the 8” augured ice hole!!! You would just see those rows of teeth!!
Man, I'd love to try that. When I went for pike in the great lakes area I find they're pretty good fight.. for a short period of time, and then nothing. Probably why I prefer I bass fishing. Of course, I'd love me some muskie action too.. here's to some good fishin' buddy!
The filleting has taken a lot of practice and video watching, and I’m still pretty lousy at it, but the meat is very very good. Well worth the struggle. lol
What an episode this was...Loved all of it. The scenery, the day of fishing was awesome, Foresty Forest and Rocko showing up was fun. This is the second episode I've watched...it was the Best🎉❤😊. Oh, the color of the lake (or river) at 29:39 was Astounding 🎉!
I absolutely am obsessed with this entire video. Too many moments that lifted my cheeks to even mention but I was glued the entire 30 minutes and purely entertained! That last song summed up the day perfectly. You and Em, just keep killen it. ❤
I always believe in you and your ability to turn out your incredible content. Thank you for letting me 'armchair celebrate' my home province. Love seeing our sister provinces too through your work.
Thanks for taking us on your fishing trip, (I don't get out to fish often, anymore). Could almost taste all that delicious cooking. Fish fresh from the water fried at the shore, nothing like it.
It has been delightful watching Emi open up as time goes by! My girlfriend and I love your adventures and we took a trip to lake tahoe today and kept saying Dustin should come here as we hiked around this beautiful hunk of nature! Keep up the great work great work and thank you!
I love going fishing with you all!! and Pike! that is goooooood eatin'. the size of that biggest one when you pulled it in... after seeing the ones before it, I almost jumped out of my chair... "whoa! that's a monster!" I exclaimed out loud to... no one but me and my cats... LOL... thank you for a fun saturday fishing adventure up north!
Wow congrats Emmi on such an awesome catch!! I wish my grandpa was still alive he would have loved this so much, fishing was our thing together. Thanks so much for an awesome Saturday morning journey with you both.
So happy you came across my feed this morning! Very impressed and engaged with the content. Entertaining, informative, adventurous, fishing! I’ll be watching! Happy New Year! ❤️😊🇨🇦✌️🎉
Great adventure. Beautiful part of the world. And I am slobbering because that meal you fixed looks sooooo gooood. Thanx. I'm looking forward to next time.
I love your exploration of old sites and abandoned towns & buildings in northern BC & Alaska as the nature, the rivers, mountains all of it makes my heart soar upon seeing it! ❤❤❤ couldn’t find yah for a bit so I e written down your site. I wish I was travelling around with you two!❤😂
I've learned that you can put the carcass in a bit of cheesecloth while you simmer it down and then you have it contained in one spot where you can pick through to get rid of the bones and save what meat comes off. Same thing with chicken or quail if you want to boil down the carcass and be able to remove bones without much drama.
What a fun episode! That was so nice of you to take the other content creators out to fish. Also a joy to see Emi catch that huge Pike and all the others! Love the cooking at the end. 😊
It’s been some time since I stopped by your channel. Seeing your new truck makes me glad that I chose to see what’s happening. I plan to spend the next couple of hours watching your videos to get caught up on what you’re doing and where you’ve been.
I continue to enjoy your videos as you and Emi travel through BC and now, Yukon. I also continue to enjoy reading your descriptions, as they are interesting and informative. Thank you for your work. 👍
Great video,Dustin&Emi! It is a thrill to catch your first huge fish and then just let it swim back to its home! Looking forward to seeing more of your northern explorations😊 Thanks,Sandy&Andy
That scenery, that sunset! Just spectacular! I'm not a fish person, but that soup looked fantastic! Can't wait for another episode of Expedition Kitchen!!!
Another great video and to have two of my favorite TH-camrs, joining up with you on a fishing expedition was such a treat. You and Simon are two of my big inspirations to finish my rig and Simon inspired me to push new Heights in the mountains. To see you all together and with Emmy hunting The fish of my childhood is such fun.
Your a respectable person with only keeping a couple of all your pikes you pulled out 🤙 nice to see Emmy having so much fun and enjoying our beautiful coastline and amazing vast country of expedition adventures 😊 keep up the great job of keeping all us viewers with delight and smiles 👍cheers to you and Emmy 🍺🍺

Foresty forest is half the reason I got into these videos.
I got the feels watching him get that fish, he has been tying soo hard!!!

Man I still can't get over that rig you built.👌🔥
Emi brightens the day with her smile and laugh, good to see her enjoying your trip. Sad to hear of the fire damage in Jasper over 300 homes destroyed.

That tiny net vs the big pike was hilarious! Fishing for small fish will never be the same. Thanks for sharing, Loved it!
